This player is known for slow load times. Remember, it was one of the first BD players with Netflix streaming (and one of the first BD players period).

In as much as everybody is saying this player is a piece of crap, etc. I'll simply say that mine works perfectly and has never given me any problems-it plays everything I throw at it.

It took around 10 seconds for the HD to be confirmed and another 26 seconds until the episode was streaming. I tried it on a new TV with a Netflix streaming app and it took around 15 seconds from episode selection until streaming. As Stanton pointed out, it was one of the first BD players with Netflix.

Right. I figured that, but just wanted to check with others. I'm still pretty happy with it, but when a new generation player comes along that will do 1080p and DD surround with fast load times I will probably upgrade. The slow load time is not a big deal except when you want to rewind and then have to wait for it to reload.

It has been good, but more and more I am experiencing handshake problems. Used to be just with streaming, but now even with DVD's I have to shut one or more components off until the signal is finally received by all components.

Same thing here with my 2550 and I'm on 2.6. SA was a Netflix disc but Tangled was just purchased.

Tried 3 differnt brands of cd-r Tried using the network update and it tells me the player is already at the latest update when it isn't. Current version is from 4/19/2009. Have read all documentation on the website and nothing works please advise
Due to my above posted issue with Disney discs, I just discovered 2.7 was available. I have the same issue as this older post with the firmware upgrade not working either via USB or CD-R. Any ideas?

I'm going to try and reset the player then try the upgrade again. If that fails I'll be looking for a cheaper ($200ish) replacement. BB has the 6800's available for $199 via their outlet center. I'll have to research.

Thanks.

I have two 2550's and successfully upgraded them both to the latest firmware via USB memory drive because I ran into the the "Salt" blue progression bar hanging at 80% issue. I don't know why Samsung did not make this accessible via the check for updates feature of the player but at least it appears to have worked. I had to unzip the file before using it.

So Star Trek: The Motion Picture will not play...it sputters for 2 seconds, freezes then jumps 10 minutes. Wrath of Khan played fine...and the bonus disc played fine.

(sigh)

My growing frustration with this player will soon have me seeking out a new one, and you can bet it won't be from Samsung.

Tangled plays great on my Samsung BD-P2550 using FW 2.7.

I also couldn't play Tangled, but it now works with firmware 2.7. The only surprising thing is that on my Pioneer 9120 receiver, the display shows PCM instead of DTS-MA. The speaker display does show 7 speakers as being active.
Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

Audio settings revert to default after firmware upgrade.

I had called Samsung and they opted to send me a disc. The only issue was, they sent me a disc for the 1500. Thankfully, it didn't try to install that firmware or it would have potentially bricked my player. However, it didn't say anything like "wrong firmware". It said, "the disc cannot be played". At first, I didn't realize what was wrong until I read the label more closely and realized the issue.

I ended up getting a chance to reinstall Roxio on my new system, so I was able to burn the firmware I downloaded off the web site.

I was finally able to play Tangled, but I almost thought it didn't work when it went to the castle animation for a few seconds before finally loading the disc properly.

Thanks for the Roxio tip. I used another program to burn the original CD but I might sacrifice another disc and use Roxio to try and upgrade the firmware one last time. If this fails the 2550 will go to backup status as I have a new BD-C6800 being delivered by UPS tonight.

Little surprise tonight.

Come to find out, the files I originally downloaded were somehow 2500 files. I went back to the download page for the 2550 and these files were 2550 files. So I was able to load the update to 2.7 successfully via USB. I'm not sure why that original download page gave me 2500 files but I'm glad I tried it again. The Tangled disc loads up fine now.

Now the next question is if I return the unopened BD-C6800 that is sitting in front of me or keep it?

Big oooops!!!

However glad to hear it works!
Yeah, you don't want the 2500 files. It doesn't have Pandora...

Thankfully, the machine is smart enough to not try to use it. It just doesn't give a clear message of what the issue is. Is it too much to ask to have a message like "wrong firmware for this model"?

Guys, I need help.
I have a BD-P2500 for less than 2 years and about 3-4 months back a weird problem cropped up. A few minutes after starting, the picture would start wavering and then the picture would go away and a weird image which looked like rolling shutters would take its place. Powering off and on would not help. Now, this problem would happen occasionally (once or twice a week). Lately it is happening very frequently to the point that I cannot watch a movie straight through any more. Here are troubleshooting steps I tried:
- Content from other sources looks fine on the pj
- Did some searching but could not find any posts with others who had this issue.
- Online connection said I have latest firmware
- Downloaded and unzipped new firmware and connected via USB - it did not 'find' the firmware
- Downloaded disc ISO, burnt it to CD and played it. (had to try several times before I could find a time when the shuttering problem was not occuring) Found firmware, said updating. Instructions said take disc out and wait 2-3 minutes when player will switch off automatically. Did not happen even after 30 minutes. So I re-did the task but now I did not take the disc out. Display got stuck on 'Updating firmware' for more than 30 minutes.
So, I am at my wits end. My electronics generally last me for ages (10+ years) and this is the first major piece that has crapped out so soon.

My setup is BD-P2500 connected to a Panasonic projector (720 p resolution) via component cables. I have this problem with Netflix, Blu-ray and DVDs. Problem is content independent. So my questions:
- Does anybody know of this problem and its solution ?
- Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong with the firmware update ? I wanted to give the benefit of doubt and think it is a firmware issue.

I appreciate any help you guys can give.
Thanx in advance

2 questions for "Bharat-N":
1) Do you have HDMI hooked up?
2) Does it occur on all outputs?

1. No I don't. My projector is far away from the BD player and I had pre-wired my basement with component cables. As the pj is 720p, I did not think it was worth it to run HDMI through the walls right now.
2. It starts a few minutes after the player is switched on so it doesnt even get to the point of me choosing to stream Netflix or BD or DVD

As a side note, after posting yesterday, I talked to Samsung yesterday and after a lot of begging, got them to agree on sending a firmware update disc (they wanted me to tell them the firmware version and I couldnt get across the fact that I cannot see a picture to find that out).
Unless you were attempting to install the wrong firmware (i.e. perhaps BD-2550) I am doubtful that Samsung's CD will work any differently than your own CD / USB. However probably still worth trying. (Although I wonder if they will send you the older version of the firmware that seems to be marked as the most current version when the Blu-Ray player does an update check.)

I am no expert but to me the issue sounds more related to hardware i.e. overheating or failed component.
What I really meant for 2) was does it occur on: S-video/HDMI/etc simultaneously? That's the only way to see if it's just the component output or something further upstream.

I tend to agree with prior post about the firmware disc (I doubt firmware has anything to do with it), but first you have to narrow the problem.

Stanton and anettis,
Thanx, I haven't tried other outputs. Another friend had similar suggestions. Here is what I plan to do:
- Move the BD player to another TV, then try different video connections (audio CDs play fine)
- Just for completeness, try to update firmware using the Samsung disc (whenever that arrives).

That should complete my troubleshooting

Is it being 'pushed' via Ethernet or only via their website? I don't enable BD Live anymore unless I specifically need it (too many hacks and update problems). I operate on the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' axiom with this player (and many other things these days--like iPhones).

According to the website for the 2500:

Ver 2.8 Apr.28, 2011
1. Specific disc playability improved.

Guess they're gonna make us guess which disc it improves playability on.

I'm not going to update until I run into that disc.

I see specific disc play ability improved listed for FW 2.7 but I do not see any description listed for 2.8. However, I did download the FW and updated to 2.8. One of my three players is stuck on the updating FW screen. I am thinking of pulling the power plug. Any suggestions as I do not want to brick my player. I used the same CD to update all three players.

I did unplug the stalled player and it did not brick it. However, it did not update the FW on the player either. I was successful on my 2nd attempt on that player. I have not noticed any noticeable changes. I was hoping for the improved searchable Netflix interface but i figure that is a pipe dream.

Did it finish? (my USB update went fine) Nevermind - I didn't see your last post. As long as I am editing...

I ended up getting a Roku for streaming Netflix. It has a much better interface and much faster load times as well (with little or no pause to reload after rewind). I don't notice any problems with the Roku PQ compared to the 2500. Pretty amazing for such a little box. I really got it for the MOG accessibility, but am not happy with the MOG interface really. Maybe there is an HTPC or Google TV box in my future for that.

I have also been wondering if the little Roku box is the way to go and simply letting the Blu-Ray player be just that a Blu-Ray / DVD player. Seems like the folks are Roku keep improving the interface, adding new features, etc. at pace that Samsung would likely never achieve (except perhaps for a current year player).
