To those with a heat problem, why don't you stack it on top of a component that is not on the same time as the bluray player? I stack it on top of my Oppo dvd player that is never on at the same time. I check it after a few hours and the oppo is warm, not hot, which means it is acting like a heatsink for the bluray player.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. I would want as much heat dissipation as possiable...

No mention of that on the box. I saw one at Best Buy today. So I'd say no.

Well thats understandable, but would you rather touch hot metal bare handed or with a towel over your hand? I'd assume the latter. This is also assuming Samsung makes a pretty unstable product if they can't last on top of a typical DVR, but I'm just saying.

TSalt told you the towel is going to act like insulation. Insulation is the lack of heat dissipation. In plain english, the heat's not going anywhere! You're just letting the heat build up!

You do not need to give me the definition of insulation. The idea however, is to keep the heat from geting to the BD-P2550, so maybe insulation would be a good idea in this case...still debating, because with the thin towel in between the 2, the 2550 is not nearly as hot.

Towel on, kill your DVR quicker.

Towel off, kill your BD player quicker.

Your choice...

To each their own. Electronics fail rather quickly when heat is allowed to build up. I guess if you're going to abuse something, the cable company's DVR is fair game. As Stew4msu stated, your DVR is really in a state of standby and not really "off."

Yeah, it doesn't get simpler than that. There is really no option other than to stack? What about a small rack?

I'll have to think of something. I got a brand new TV stand thats rather expensive, and I've gone through quite a bit of hell already setting up my tv, ( Sony BDP-S350, had 2 of them, both gave static, had to take them back. Comcast DVR had a faulty HDMI Input, had to take it back) now I'm finally set up and gotta go through more ****. Jeez.

I think I'm gonna call Samsung and see what they think.


P.S. Why are there no decals on the wheel in front of this blu ray so you know which is resume and stop, etc. Seems awfully odd.

But, I have a feeling they will tell you, or should tell you, as is written in the manuel, page 5 under PRECAUTIONS....

Which, should cover the towel underneth the player. Notice how low profile the player is, then take note of the few small air exchanging holes on the bottom of the player...if for some reason you still insist on a towel, at least put some spacers under the feet....but again, adding insulation on top of your DVR is not a good idea...

Pretty much says enough...so, setting ontop of another "heat source" would be a no-no....

Why did you buy a brand new stand that wouldn't fit your equipment?

Thanks for the notice. Let me say tho that this Comcast DVR runs warm, not hot, so to think it would actually do damage would be highly unlikely, not to mention I'm only keeping this DVR for 9 months. There is space between the legs of the player and the towel, as this towel is VERY thin. The little towel has allowed this player to cool significantly. This is not a towel you shower with, it's almost napkin thin. I also might note that both players are in an open cabinent, and there's a window air conditioner about 6 feet away, not sure how much that helps, but it can't hurt. But you all honestly believe it would be best for the blu ray player if I remove the towel, I suppose I'd take your word for it.

Alright, you guys scared/convinced me enough to install a shelf on the wall next to the tv stand and I'll just place the blu ray there. But for now I'll leave it where it is ( 2 weeks, that gonna be ok? .

1. It is my understanding that the 2550 will have BD Live 2.0 through an udpate.
2. DTS HD MA seems to present some challenges. I recall that no HD DVD player ever was able to decode this on-board either. This is format-independent.
3. The PS3, introduced nearly 2 years ago, does decode all audio formats and is also 2.0. You can also be able to choose between a variety of machines shortly, including the Sony 350, Panasonic 50, 55, as well as highend machines like Pioneer.

At some point, we all have to decide if hd picture and sound is important to us our not.

I'm really enjoy rewatching some of my dvds with this blu-ray player. The dvd performance (upscaling, playback, pq) is excellent. It's even better than the Toshiba XD-E500 dvd player that I bought yesterday.

Been watching Farscape all day. Have had two freezes though....

I really would consider putting the DVR on top of the 2550. The case of the 2550 should easily handle the weight of at least 2 or 3 components. Get rid of that towel before you fry both units.

Alright, do you guys all agree that puting the DVR on top of the 2550 will be ok for both units. I really only care about the 2550, but for the DVR's sake also, I will lie the DVR on top if thats what would solve everything without having to add another shelf

I would still add another shelf (although heat rises, the bottom of the DVR can get hot too), but for the next 2 weeks I'd put the DVR on top of the 2550.

I would take the wifes/girlfriends knick knacks out the stand and make room for both...separately

Alright, tomorrow morn i'll unplug both units and put the DVR on top until I install the shelf. Thanks a lot guys.

Anyone upscaling SD DVD without using HDMI?

Check out coolerguys.com. I installed a kit w/ 2 80mm computer case fans that pull the heat out of my tv stand and nothing runs hot (my Onkyo 605 even runs cooler now). The power adapter converts works with the 3-pin connectors on the fans so it uses a normal wall outlet. Beware, though, you do have to cut a hole in the side/back you choose to install it in.

Very strange...using Firefox 3.0. The pic downloads don't show up when I view your post. However, if I reply to the post, as I did here, then the URL's become visible.

And when I view this post, I can't see the URL's either...very strange.
