Greeetings!
I've been out of the home theatre game for almost two years as I tend to research for months and then make a big purchase so at this point I really don't know much on current products, especially at this price range.
My buddy is buying a Samsung 61" DLP (HL61A750) and wants to spend 500 bucks on a home 5.1 system, I understand it isn't much but it's better than TV speakers. He is looking at this:

Is there anything better he should be looking at? If he has to spend an extra hundred or two for something that blows the $500 dollar system out of the water then it may be possible.
Also, I assume he can run the above system in a 5.1 and just not plugin two speakers? Room layout won't allow for 7 speakers.
I'd appreciate any advice you guys have to give.
