trying to finish off my HT speaker system -- Infinity fronts

Hello, everyone! I could use a little help here.

I am finally going HDTV and surround sound, and now need to turn my 2.1 system into a 5.1 (at least). Of course, I blew my budget on the TV and receiver, so don't have much left (maybe $200) to spend on the center and rear speakers.

I'm particularly concerned with the center channel speaker, because from what I've read, it doesn't appear that you can do voice-matching just by looking at the speaker specs (is that correct?). In fact, I don't even know if it helps to shop Infinity, because it appears their speakers are being made now by HK (or was that always the case).

Anyway, here is what I have:

Onkyo 606 receiver
Infinity Reference 2000.4 fronts
cheap 12" E-12DBN KLH sub (inherited), which I can't replace yet

I've gotten several ideas for very reasonable rear speakers, and would love to hear more. But if anyone knows of a good center channel speaker that is voice-matched to the Infinitys and could be gotten at a good deal, I'd love to hear about it. (also, my wife cares a lot more about how things look than how they sound, so I can't get a large center that dominates the room -- 18 w by 7 high is probably okay, smaller better) -- have I made it impossible yet?

Thanks!!

If I was you, I would go to Ebay or Audiogon and look for a used Infinity CC3 center channel speaker. You could probably pick it up for around $50 or less. A great Infinty center channel that would match well with your mains (I used to have them and that's what I matched mine with!) It has a frequency dial in the rear that helps voice match them. This was a very good center channel in its day and a STEAL for $50 or less. Good luck.

/\\ What he said!!!!

I have infinitys also and as long as the tech is the same you should be ok. Matching the tweeter type and cone size helps. Run Audyssey and that should help match them.

With your budget go all used or save up a little to get something decent. You don't need great rear speakers.

Harmon/Kardon has owned Infinity and JBL for many, many years.

Okay, I'm trying to do exactly that -- it looks to be pretty doable on ebay.

Thanks!!
