I agree, but I took a different longer approach.

I used the break-in disk with normal viewing settings for the first 500 hours when ever we weren't watching source material. For the first 200 hours the only normal viewing we did was full screen. The set was on 24/7 during that period and more than 90% of the time it was the break-in DVD playing. My intent was the same as yours, but I have no way to know how effective it was except that at 3,000 hours the display has never shown any IR that I've noticed.

My plan was to have our dislplay professionally calibrated. UMR calibrated it at 900 hours, and re-calibrated at 2,800 hours. So far life is good.

There are other reasons for D-Nice's brake-in settings also.

I don't own the 141, but what you state below is probably good reason.

I use D-Nice's break-in advice. And I do post ISF night settings for my 141.

My bad.

The way you brake-in, is the beat I have ever read.

And you had one of the best calibrators that I know of. Perfect.

I and our display thank you.

Right now I'm enjoying the 2L --"The Nordic Sound" BD recording in dts-HD MA 5.1 on our UMR calibrated mid-fi system (OPPO, Denon 3806, Boston A reference 2 level). For 75 year old ears, it's very nice.

After reading/skimming through the 1000 pages of Pioneer Elite threads I noticed a major trend. Those looking at 50" Elites are certainly swayed towards the 111. This makes sense due to the possible need for speakers, tuner, media gallery, and potential resale value. After reading the entire Signature 141 thread I was expecting a little more discussion on the 101 there. No luck. Maybe 3 guys chimed in that they were the lonely soles that actually bought one of these monitors. Everyone is raving about the 141 but there is no love for the 101. What's the deal? Is there something wrong with 101's that I don't know about?

I am going back to my local HT store today to buy one of these panels. I have the money for a 141 but feel my money would be better spent on a 101 or 111 and a BDP-09 for the same price as a 141. Store owners seem to be pushing on the 101's and that kind of scares me into thinking they really can't sell these monitors. I like the idea behind the Signature Series but can't seem to get over the fact that there are like 3 guys on this board with a 101 as opposed to 400 or so 111 owners and a good 50 or so 141 owners.

Any help clearing my doubts would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing wrong with the 101 is that its a 50" display vs a 60"

IMO you would be MUCH better off getting an Oppo and 141 vs the BDP 09 and the 101.

i had a 141 on order. i went back and forth should i change it too a 151. eventually i got the 151. the 141 just didnt add up to the value of the 151. the main reason that i didnt get the 141 was that from what i researched was that there is no PQ difference between the two. the 141 does have finer controls in the ISF modes that will get a better calibration on paper. but from what i gathered no visual difference. that said i received speakers, on board audio and a stand, for $300 less then the 141. i really wanted to get the best of the best (hand selected glass) but it didnt add up.

Yeah- UMR is the best at helping audio/videophiles get the absolute best out of their Audio/Video Systems! He applied his magic touch to both of my systems, so my hat is off to him for enhancing my satisfaction!

Why not a 141, and an OPPO BDP-83.

I theorize that someone who is considering getting a monitor instead of a full TV probably is the kind of person who normally shells out money for separate components, and that *might* mean they have more money to toss around. If that's the case, then, for such a person, spending more on a 141 than a 101 seems like a natural thing to do, provided they have room for a 60" panel.

Another theory is that the 101 requires separate components to drive it, yet it's smaller than the 60". If a person has room for separate components, then likely they have more room for a larger panel too.

So, the user profiles are different. Someone with space and budget constraints would get the 111 and feed it directly with a combo player and a satellite or cable box. Someone without space or budget constraints would get the 141 and feed it from perhaps an outboard scaler, with a bunch of inputs, and would have separate 5.1 or even 7.1 speakers and amps. Someone in the middle might get the 151 to economize on speakers and the tuner. But who would get the 101, which is smaller, yet requires more components to drive it? They'd still need separate speakers and a separate tuner.

I tend to agree with sk20 for the most part. I am one of the few 101 owners. There are a couple of reasons. First, I don't really have the room for a 60" in my TV's location (certainly, my wife doesn't think so). Second, about the time that I was going to pull the trigger, the economy went South, along with my wife's job. So, it would have been a hard sell.

All in all, if you have decided that 50" is the way to go, but you still appreciate the benefits of the Signatures thinner, lighter, supposedly higher quality control, network access, slightly finer image adjustment controls, etc.), I wouldn't hesitate. I love mine.

About the only thing that bugs me is that while the non-Signatures have gotten multiple firmware updates (all for tuner related issues, I believe), the Signatures have gotten none. The truth is that the network-related stuff could use some fixes/updates, but I doubt that we'll ever see them.

If your fear is that there is something about the 101 that is inferior to the 141 (other than the size), then rest easy. There is nothing like that.

That was my reasoning. The 141 is the best panel [period] and the -83 is the best player [period].

I remember when I got my PRO940, I ended up kicking myself for not going with the PRO1140. I wasn't going to make that mistake again

I agree. Unless you are really into music or need the extra HDMI out port. But in any case the Oppo is without question the best bang for your buck.

I have compared the BD-09 and the Oppo BD-83.

Peter,

Speaking of 141's and -83's... how's the calibration coming along?
Hey, can I join the club? Another happy customer of Roman at buybestplasma.

I'm watching Horton Hears a Who with the kids and all I can say is "WOW". Even my jaded wife is impressed. Next step is to find a calibrator for the Seattle area.

By the way, adding to the discussion above, since I already had a 60 inch display, I could definitely not tolerate going down to 50 inches, so the 141 over 101 was easy. Debated a while though vs the 151, but I like the lighter weight and thinner size.

Hey...a fellow 141/Classé owner!

Thats a SSP 800 right? or were you able to somehow remove the silkscreen Dolby and THX logos from the 600?
Yep, its an SSP-800, as well as a CA5100 and CA3200.
Oops, its now corrected, thanks.

Very nice...

I have the 600 and CA 5100. I just hooked up CAN BUS and the Delta IR repeater today. Both work great.

Im saving for the 800, but the 600 is outstanding. Full spec lossy sounds better with my SSP 600 then lossless did with my Rotel.

Do you post at Club Classe?

No but I read most of the posts over there. I haven't had my Classe gear very long and am still playing with the ssp-800.

How do you link to a specific post? I'm trying to respond as everyone else does with quotes but I must be missing something.

As I read his post this is exactly what I first thought of saying!

I would have gone with the 141 but I got denied because my lovely wife wanted "some" shelf space in our built in entertainment center. Well, that and I wouldn't have had a place to put the speakers.

I'll post pics when I actually get my 101. I've got a loaner Sharp LCD until the stand for the 101 arrives.

Also have an -83 on the way as well!

Cheers!

You know, I've read a lot about how LCD's are better for higher light environments, but we're watching in early evening light with just blinds over the windows, on an uncalibrated set, and the picture is poppin'! Of course, it is an animated movie, but we have a Samsung LN52A850 LCD in the basement for the kids and their Wii, and I still think the Pioneer spanks it. I'll have to compare more during mid day tomorrow when more light is in the background.

Did you get it calibrated yet? The ISF modes "pop" a lot more.

Michael TLV. He is out of Calgary and does go down to Seattle.

He is very well respected and teaches course to certify.
