DVD w/o progressive vs line doubler

I have a Mit WS 65908 that can double the line input from 480 to 960. I have a Sony 500 DVD player w/o progressive scanning and am using optical and high quality component cables t connec to my RVX1 . I have heard that I will still need to upgrade my DVD player to a unit that has progressive output because when using the component cables the line doubling feature of my Mit has no effect. Is this true? Does anyone agree? Should I still upgrade my DVD player?

Yes, Upgrade the DVD player. I also have a mits diamond, and there isn't much of a difference with 480/960 option. I may be wrong, but I remember reading that somewhere. The difference between Progressive and interlaced is huge IMHO. I have the Panasonic RP91, which is a very good progressive player for the money, and is hard to beat. Do a search for the RP91, and check it out.

My Philips 64PH9905 has two sets of component inputs, one for interlaced DVD. 480i inputs from my Toshiba SD-6200 DVD player are doubled (deinterlaced) at these inputs.

But switching the SD-6200 to progressive output and plugging the component cables into the 9905's HD component in jacks, designed for progressive signals, really improves the quality of 'tough' DVD scenes, often cluttered with aliasing and other artifacts (see "Dueling Genesis: Toshiba SD-6200, Philips 64PH9905" .) -- John
