Bright House adding 15 HD channels in September including AMC HD, Fox News HD, Cinemax HD and sports channels

posted by Etan Horowitz on Aug 6, 2009 2:28:02 PM

On September 5, Bright House Networks is rolling out 15 new high definition channels to Central Florida customers. These additions will give Bright House a total of 64 HD channels and will put the cable provider closer to its stated goal of reaching 100 HD channels by the end of the year.

The addition of AMC HD will come a few weeks after the new season of Mad Men starts.

Seven of the HD channels will be free while three will be on the premium tier and five will be in the sports tier.

Free HD channels

AMC HD, channel 1358
Biography HD, channel 1347
CBS College Sports HD, channel 1016
ESPN News HD, channel 1328
Fox News HD, channel 1323
Palladia, channel 1373 (music programming, owned by MTV Networks)
WGN HD, channel 1015

New premium HD channels

Cinemax HD, channel 1251
Starz HD, channel 1288
The Movie Channel HD, channel 1271

New Sports Pack HD channels

Big Ten Network HD, channel 1002
NBA TV HD, channel 1008
NHL Network HD, channel 1003
Tennis Channel HD, channel 1007
Yes Network HD, channel 1006

Bright House will also add three standard definition channels on September 5 to the sports pack and two to the Nuestros Canales services. Those channels are:

Fox College Sports Atlantic, channel 185
Fox College Sports Central, channel 186
Fox College Sports Pacific, channel 187
Discovery Familia, channel 620
Gol TV, channel 623

All 20 channels will be delivered with a new technology known as Switched Digital Video (SDV). Although the customer won't notice any difference, delivering channels with SDV allows Bright House to more effectively use its bandwidth to deliver more HD channels and services.

Without SDV, every channel is constantly being sent to all home regardless if anybody is watching it or not. But SDV channels are only sent to someone's TV when they tune to one of them. Bright House spokeswoman Sara Brady said the company started using SDV to deliver some channels a few months ago.

Although Bright House cable box customers won't notice a difference with SDV channels, customers who use a TiVo and CableCARDs from Bright House will need to order a special adapter to be able to tune in the SDV channels.

Brady said TiVo customers with compatible models can order up to two adapters for free a year. After that, each adapter will cost $3.80 a month.

Bright House Networks to launch 17 new, high-definition channels in 17 consecutive days beginning Monday

By Duane Brodt

Posted: October 29, 2009R

For 17 straight days beginning Monday, Bright House Networks will launch one new high-definition channel each day that will be available free of charge to its central Indiana digital customers, a major move toward the company’s goal of providing more than 100 high-definition channels by early 2010.

Monday’s launch of American Movie Classics HD will get things started. AMC HD is the high-definition version of AMC featuring classic movies and Emmy award-winning series like “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.” AMC HD can be found on Bright House Networks channel No. 727.

“We are on a mission to provide our customers with more high-definition channels than we’ve ever offered before,” said Bright House Networks Indiana President Buz Nesbit. “From movie channels and channels that air the most popular TV shows to dedicated, 24-hour sports and news channels, our customers are demanding high-definition programming and Bright House Networks is delivering.”

Following Monday’s launch of AMC HD, Bright House Networks will deliver a new high-definition channel each day through Nov. 18.

I was looking for info on the 17 in 17 for Indy before.

It will be interesting to see what they get but I expect these 17 to fall in line with other Bright House updates.

FS Indiana HD, CBS College Sports HD, ESPNews HD and Bio HD have been added in Indiana.

Nine more days to go in their 17 in 17 campaign.

Tampa and Orlando will have updates of 17 and 12 HD channels respectively a week from Wednesday and Thursday.

More channels will be on wide and we will see if the divisions outside of Indiana have 100HD channels by their goal of Dec 31.

The Viacom HD Suite should be penetrating all of the Bright House systems soon.

Bakersfield already has Spike HD, Comedy Central HD and Nick HD

Tampa is getting those plus MTV HD, CMT HD, VH1 HD and BET HD within the next month.

I need to update the HD list.

Any other Bright House people from Orlando, Tampa Bay, Bakersfield, Birmingham, Michigan or Indianapolis out there?

I have Brighthouse in Manatee County from the Tampa area. Haven't noticed Spike HD yet.
You should get it in the next month jmoline.

In addition, TWC will soon have Hallmark HD, TV Land HD and Sundance Hd to piggyback on.

I'll be updating the chart soon.

I meant one exclusively for Bright House Tampa as I hardly see mention of Bright House in Tampa's HDTV thread.

It would be good to keep this thread going though.

Tampa just got the Viacom HD Suite and now Birmingham has it plus Gospel Music Channel HD

Michigan is adding Comedy Central HD, Nick HD and Spike HD on Feb 18.

Orlando is adding the entire Viacom HD Suite plus the new Hallmark Channel on March 11.

Hallmark seems to be penetrating cable systems quickly since it's launch so expect that one to get through at least our systems quickly.

Bright House To Add 15 More HD Nets In Central Indiana

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 3/8/2010 4:28:14 PM

Bright House Networks Indiana continues to ramp up its high-definition channel roster.

The operator is scheduled to add 15 new HD networks this week, starting on March 7 with Comedy Central HD (channel No. 725), Spike HD (channel 724) and CMT HD (channel 743). All three channels will be available at no additional charge to all of the operators' central Indiana subscribers.
This follows a major rollout of 17 HD networks last October.

"In October, we announced that Bright House Networks had a goal of offering more than 100 high-definition channels in early 2010," said Wayde Klein, vice president of marketing and customer operations for Bright House Networks Indiana, in a statement. "We started by launching 17 HD channels in 17 consecutive days in November and then launched 13 new HD channels in December. Our launch of 15 HD channels this week is one step closer to our goal."

Other launches scheduled for this week: MTV HD (775); VH1 HD (741); Nickelodeon HD (744); BET HD (736); Crime & Investigation HD (852); History International HD (817); The Movie Channel HD (262); Cinemax HD (228); Hallmark Channel HD (757); Team HD (886); Game HD (904); and HD Pay-Per-View (304).

There seems to be a problem with Cinemax HD on Bright House Indianapolis. Early in March as this article says, I was able to get all of the above channels in HD except for 228 Cinemax HD. If you tune to channel 228 you get a 480i standard definition signal that is identical to channel 220 which is normal Cinemax. I've called the office three times and had two different repairmen out to my house and I cannot even get them to knowledge that this allegedly HD channel is not really HD. They keep telling me to change my settings so that only 1080i output is enabled. All that really does is take whatever is coming across the cable and up-convert it into a 1080i format. Hell I can do that on any channel and claim it's HD. Sometimes I cannot even get them to admit that there are any HD channels that are not in the 700 or 800 channel range. Yet I am getting The Movie Channel HD just fine on Channel 262 like I'm supposed to.

The technician which came to the house today called his supervisor and discussed it with him. He said that at the office they were getting the same results as I was getting. If you tune to channel 228 it says Cinemax HD but the small "HDTV" indicator light on the front of the HD DVR does not light and by looking at the picture is obviously not HD yet for some reason I cannot convince anyone for Bright House Indianapolis that this is a problem.

I've placed a phone call with the supervisor in hopes I can explain the issue better to him. If I don't get some satisfaction out of someone at Bright House very soon I'm going to be contacting the Marion County/Indianapolis cable franchise Board and lodge complaint with them.

Is there anyone else in Indianapolis who is experiencing a similar problem?

Oh by the way on another topic... Channel 71 FX network in standard definition is no longer working for me through the digital cable box. I can tune my analog TVs to channel 71 and my cable box can get FX HD on 771 but through my cable box/DVR I cannot get channel 71. So if my DVR is getting too full and I don't want to record Justified on 771 I cannot record it on 71 :-(

oh well wish me luck in my arguments with the folks at Bright House.

Bright House Indiana Adds Dozen HD Channels

Ion, Cinemax, Showtime Services Now Available

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 4/20/2010 1:19:58 PM

Bright House Networks in Indiana is bolstering its high-definition lineup by a dozen.

The operator, serving customers in the central part of the Hoosier state, has launched ION HD to its free HD tier at channel 703, and is adding 11 other multiplex networks to its premium HD tier at no additional cost: Cinemax MoreMAX HD (channel 229); Cinemax ActionMAX HD (230); Cinemax ThrillerMAX HD (231): Cinemax OuterMAX HD (232); Cinemax @MAX HD (233) Cinemax 5StarMAX HD (234); Cinemax WMAX HD (235); Showtime Too HD (250); Showtime Showcase HD (251); Showtime Extreme HD: (252); and Showtime HD ON Demand (238).

Aided by a major rollout last fall, the MSO already offers more than 100 HD channels in the area.

Moreover, Bright House is dropping the price of accessing HD movies through its HD Movies On Demand service (channel 798) to $4.99 for 24 hours for most titles.

"We are focused on providing the best, most popular HD programming and offering more HD content to our central Indiana digital customers," said Karen Broach, regional vice president of operations for Bright House, in a statement. "The addition of these new channels now provides our digital customers access to more than 100 HD channels and, coupled with our new digital TV service Start Over that allows viewers to restart, pause and rewind certain programs at any time, is another step Bright House Networks has taken to enhance our customers' TV viewing experiences."

All,

I currently have Directv and use their HD DVRs but I'm moving and looking at options. Bright HOuse seems to have come a long way with their HD programming offering but I'm curious as to the video quality compared to Directv? Can anyone comment on that please?
