10 HD games has been the norm for the past few years now.

Gotta love the pathetic HD coverage by FSArizona for the Coyotes. I thought for sure they would step it up this year since the new master control facility is up and running. Bummer!

Yes, that sucks. I apologize for getting the hopes up for people in Arizona. I'm confident the other FSN will have many more, I have solid information that says so. Unfortunately I was seeing very positive things for other FSNs like North, South, West, South West and Midwest and assumed Arizona would be similar - but for some reason it is not.

Sorry, folks.

KAZT, the local broadcaster for the Coyotes, has said that they will have the capability to pass HD starting in November. No word yet on whether they actually have any HD to pass.
Just like I figured above. SportSouth announced yesterday that they will only be carrying 61 of the Thrashers 82 games, meaing that *21* games will have no local TV coverage whatsoever. Unlike the Coyotes press release posted above, there is no mention of HD at all in the Thrashers press release below. I would've thought that if HD games were being offered for the first time, they'd trumpet that fact. The silence is deafening.

With all due respect, I'm sorry, I just don't believe what was said above about Atlanta's planned HD coverage. If they're not putting a priority on even televising the games period, then why would they spend extra money to carry "all home games and many road games" in HD? Again, this is the ONLY team in the entire league that's never had a local HD broadcast. And, yes, it's 2008, not 2001.

Not in Cape May County, NJ. I believe Comcast Sportsnet showed the away games at the end of the regular season and play-offs in just widescreen, Not HD. The games that were on Versus were in HD. I was actually hoping all the away games would be on Versus just to get a real HD feed.

The Vancouver Canucks are carried on Comcast Sportsnet Northwest (http://northwest.comcastsportsnet.com/nhl.aspx) in the Portland area. I don't know if any of the games are carried in HD. We dont get CSN-NW in the Seattle area.

WGN HD is already on E*, both the local HD feed, and natoinal HD feed. We get the Cubs games in HD if the are on WGN HD.

And of course 100% Bruins games in HD on NESNHD has usually from the leading HD sports channel.

Hockey is not baseball.

The contracts are different. Black Hawk games will not be shown on the WGN national feed.

Center Ice HD

Anyone know answers to the following?

1.) Do any American providers carry or plan to carry Canadian national or Regional HD feeds?

2.) Any word or rumours on Fios getting CI?

3.) Will Comcast carry the GameHD channel this year.

4.) Any word on whether indemand will start offering more than just one GameHD channel?

At least 25 of the St. Louis Blues home games will be broadcast in HD by FSN Midwest.

13 home games will be broadcast in HD over the air on KPLR.

Well the first 3 games in the Caps series were just plain widescreen but the announcers made a big deal about the 7th game being HD (calling it a first for their broadcast). And whatever games they had in the 2nd/3rd round were all HD. Annoyingly, I don't get Versus HD on RCN and I don't know when/if that will change.

I really hope so. Of course that depends on if the Coyotes are willing to provide them with an HD feed. That's why I think that we are only seeing 10 HD games on FSN-AZ - that's all the Coyotes are willing to provide FSN. Perhaps if attendance at Jobing.com arena was better, we would see more HD games?

Finally, some official word from the Thrashers organ-eye-zation. From their official blogger:

"I have what I consider very good news to share. You may or may not have noticed that yesterday's unveiling of the TV schedule didn't list any games in HD. There's a good reason for that. Details are still being ironed out concerning dates and the number of games but I'm happy to tell you that SportSouth will be broadcasting multiple games in high definition this season. The dates and number of games will be announced when those details are finalized in the next few weeks."

Fear not. The Wild's web site shows none in HD at this time for FSN North and I know for a fact that is not true.

Remember, Fox Sports Net has already released this information:

Fox Sports Net: All HD by 1Q 2009
(Fox Sports Net News Release)

LOS ANGELES - (Business Wire) Today at the annual NCTA conference in New Orleans, FSN Networks President Randy Freer announced that FSN, the industry’s largest group of regional sports networks, will begin transitioning to round-the-clock HD telecasts in the first quarter of 2009.

This ambitious initiative means that FSN will have the capability to produce its entire slate of more than 3,000 Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League and NCAA Football and Basketball events in HD—far and away more than any other sports TV provider in the U.S.

Said Freer: “This is the next step in the evolution of FSN’s commitment to being the leaders in HD sports production. It’s one of the best ways we can serve the local sports fans throughout the country, and it also allows us to offer tremendous value to our team partners and distributors.”

Added Mike Hopkins, Executive Vice President & General Manager of Affiliate Sales & Marketing for Fox Cable Networks: “HD is one of our distributors’ and their customers’ highest priorities, so it’s incumbent upon us to offer them our most popular services in HD. We have consistently found that sports drives the adaptation of new technologies, and the deep emotional commitment local fans have to their teams will accelerate the HD and digital transition.”

The 16 owned-and-operated FSN regional sports networks are already the most prolific producers of HD sports programming in the country with more than 1,700 live high-definition telecasts of the MLB, NBA, NHL and NCAA Football and Basketball. Since debuting its HD telecasts nearly five years ago with approximately 200 games, FSN has essentially doubled its HD schedule every year, making its RSNs the largest providers of local HD events in America.

FSN’s transition to full-time HD in 2009 will be made possible by Fox Networks Group investment and construction of the nation’s largest and most technically state-of-the-art television transmissions center, Fox Network Center Houston. The 184,000-square-foot facility will be able to handle more signal traffic than any other similar facility, including as many as 40 live games in a single day.

FSN will determine HD roll-out plans for each of its individual regional sports networks based on several factors including team telecast rights and distribution agreements.

Besides its regional sports network events, Fox Networks Group already provides HD versions of its flagship FOX and FX networks, National Geographic Channel, SPEED and its most recent new service, Big Ten Network, which produces more events in HD than any new network in television history.

Absolutely no Hurricanes away games in HD? Are you ****ing kidding me?

How do we go from 8 or 10 away games in HD to 25 home games in HD?

Who said that?

I only listed the home games that I know of that are VERY likely to be HD.

There wil be some away games too.

Here are two away games for you:

10/17/2008 Carolina at Los Angeles
10/19/2008 Carolina at Anaheim

Again, THERE WILL BE MORE, the planning is a work-in-progress.

The planning and scheduling of the home games for each team usually happens before away games. That is partially why I have more information at this point on teams' home HD plans.
