Satellite speakers help!!!

Just got a Denon 1909, and I need 2 extra speakers for the 7.1 system.. Right now I have:

Denon 1907
PS3
2 JBL S38 front speakers
Subwoofer
JBL center
2 JBL SCS 500 for surround

Was looking to buy 2 more SCS 500's, but they are difficult to find, and JBL will have them only late October. I wonder if the Polk RM7 speakers or the RM 101's could fit the bill. These 2 extra speakers, will be mounted on the wall in back of sofa. Anyone using these Polk speakers?? Are the Polks similar to the JBL SCS 500?? Thanks for the replies..

When you say the speakers are going to be mounted on the wall behind your sofa, is your sofa against the wall you plan to mounting your speakers on? In order to get the most out of 7.1, you need, at the very least, 3 ft. of space behind your listening position - 6 or more is better. If your sofa is against the wall, save your money, and stick with 5.1

As for rear surround speakers, they really don't have to match the rest of your speakers. You could also check audiogon.com, you might find some there.

Yes, the sofa is right against the back wall. So, if I do install them, the RS101's should be fine at $50. The folks at Polk, recommended the RM8, since sound also comes out of the sides, and it would complement the surround speakers. Not sure if that makes sense. Thanks ...

One more question..

I have a large sectional sofa. Wouldn't the 7.1 speakers on the wall complement the people sitting on the side? (not facing the surround speakers). Thanks..

Keep in mind that there are very few true 7.1 mixed movies out there.

If you are trying to 'future proof' your HT setup in the hopes that 7.1 movies become the standard, then you should consider that for a good 7.1 setup you need some actual 'depth' behind your listening positioning.

If your couch is right up against the back wall, then you have no 'depth' behind the couch to properly mount the rear surrounds for good 7.1.

I think most folks would agree that your money would be better spent on a properly configured and budgeted 5.1 than a poorly cobbled 7.1 configuration.
