LCD decision - buying in next 24 hours!!

Sony's S4100 is better than the 550, especially for gaming, but they are both kinda ******.

hmmm yeah for gaming i'd definitely recommend the sony S4100 or V4100 since the "gamer" settings are more customizable.

But I haven't had experience on the 550's though, just going off my experience of the 750.

I have the Samsung 46A550, so I guess I'm a little biased, but I think the 550 series is a pretty good choice.

The input lag isn't too bad; I measured it at around 30ms, give or take 16 ms or so, which seems to be about average for LCDs. As a note, when you choose "LCD TV" for the input calibration in Rock Band, it chooses 30ms, and I got around that value when I calibrated manually. And this is without game mode, mind you; enabling game mode makes a slight difference. So it's not the best, but it's not "horrible" as some people describe it -- see this post for some evidence. Sure there are better, and there are worse; it's really up to you how much input lag you find acceptable.

The response time could be better; if I look for it, I do see some minor ghosting, but it's not enough to bother me.

CNET gave it a pretty good review too, if you trust CNET... some people think they have a Samsung bias though.

Other sets to consider:
Samsung 530 series (with a coupon at BB, you can get the 46" version for only a tiny bit more than your budget).
Vizio XVT series - it has 120Hz, and CNET's review of it was pretty good, though there's a lot of Vizio haters .

the response time isnt the issue, input lag is and its horrible..... And even though samsung has a faster claimed response time the sony some how handles motion better.
