It appears the 850's depth is over an inch shallower than the 750, which makes me very happy. We use the exact Peerless mounts for the Panny's as well. Nice to see that the Peerless "flat" mount might be an option now. Never understood why Panasonic couldn't figure out how to make the base of the set shallower. This is a nice and welcomed change.

BTW, we have them ordered, but have no guarantees they will get here by the end of the month. I did order one for myself.

Cant' wait for someone to post their impressions of this TV. I am waiting to pull the trigger until some reviews come along. Come on guys, the suspense is killing us.

Well I'm strongly considering this set now that I've heard that the Mitsubishi Laservue is going to cost $7,000.

But I won't be able to use it at all without the pedestal.

I'll probably order from Cleveland Plasma, but I need to have that pedestal. Any word on if you will be able to get them, Chris?

Ordered the 65 850 Saturday. Looks like 3 weeks until delivery. Got 15% knocked off MSRP. Was a birthday coupon they matched from Best Buy.

Got the zero interest for 2 years.

Only reason I did not go with CLevland was the zero interest deal. Otherwise he beat my price (and no tax).

SHould be late Oct before I can really get this thing mounted and running.

Looking forward to comparing it with my 65 inch LCD Sharp 94U I have in the living room.

Why don't you buy the pedestal online from BestBuy ?

Mine will be coming tomorrow. Although I am building a "platform stand" to mount it on, I am going to rig up something to fire it up. It all depends on when it arrives.

I'm not sure if Best Buy actually has them in stock. But even if they do, Chris is now out of stock on these sets, so I'll have to wait for him to get more anyways. Once he has the stand available as well I suspect he may have it priced lower than $700.

You are better off wall mounting (if possible). Goto Service Magic and you should be able to find some contractors in your area that will do this cheaper than $700.

Just pics from a DVD did not get Blu-ray yet. Last pic will show you the blacks onscreen vs bezel. I'll try to get some better shots soon. Any specific questions I will try to give you the best answer I can. Any tips on taking pictures I will take them. The ones I took just don't do it justice.

By the way, what DVD player did you use? Is that image being upscaled by the set, the player, or a scaler?

the new 65" monitor Panasonic th65vx100 just announced and due in dec 08/jan 09 is supposed to be $10,000, eek.

It's actually the TH-65PZ850U. Retail is $6,999 (same as the Laservue). And apparently, it has a static contrast ratio of 30,000:1 (not that contrast ratios really mean anything, but it says something that numbers that high usually refer to a dynamic contrast ratio). The "dynamic" ratio on this set is 1,000,000:1.

No, its not. He is talking about the brand new set Panasonic announced that blows away the Kuro in black level.

We seem to have a little bit of a misunderstanding.

He asked, "what is the msrp on the th65pz800u??" There is no such model, I think he meant to say the th65pz850u, the set that this thread is about. Retail is $6,999.

I believe his second sentence was about the new set to which you linked. The model number of that set is going to be the TH-65VX100. It's even in your link.

Why would you lie and say it blows away a Kuro when the article says it does not match the Kuro in black level????

Gary says the th65vx100 monitor has the best black level ever for a Panasonic.

Gary also says that comparing it side by side with a Kuro that the Kuro had better black levels.

that mits laservue i think will have a tough time at that pricing......which size mits will that be? the 60-65"?? or a 73"

The $6,999 is for the 65" model. Based on that, I would expect the 73" to be closer to $10,000 when it's released.

My unit arrives this morning. It's going to be on "a stand". Since stands are not available and I would not pay $700 anyway, I am going to try to build one, either utilizing the holes that are designed into the set for the commercial stand, or using a stand that incorporates the Peerless non-tilting mount that I bought. I have the advantage of being able to either clamp or bolt the stand to my cabinet, so I am not at all worried about tipping. Tipping prevention is why the commercial stand is so heavy. Wish me luck-- I will take pics.

I had the flash off in the first. I was trying a couple of different things and it was real late. The DVD player is a Denon DVD-1600 sent to a Sony DA5300ES with component cables, then to the TV through HDMI. I believe the Sony is upscaling to 1080i and sending that to the tv. I can't access the onscreen menu for the receiver through the HDMI output so I'm not sure what the current settings are. Gotta figure that out. But I had an old DVD player hooked up through s-video and it looked amazing as well, and that was just a progressive scan straight into the TV.

I had some friends over for the game on Thursday night and used the OTA tuner to receive the HD broadcast. First, the TV has a very good tuner. It found channels my Mitsubishi 65711 did not. I used to have to rotate the antenna when I changed channels to get a better signal and no longer have to even with the additional channels. Everybody agreed the game looked amazing and visibly better than the HD on my Mitsubishi rear projection. We saw no issues with motion at any time. I explained to my friends that many people complain about the blacks on these sets. We all scrutinized the picture in the dark areas and didn't think it could get any "blacker". Perhaps if I had the Kuro next to it I would be able to see it's better, but without that black looks black.

So far I like the "Studio Ref" mode for picture settings. I will be playing with the custom a little more when I get a chance. I gotta get me a Blu-ray.

Wow! That's not even a progressive signal, just 480I. S-Video doesn't send 480P. It looks like the video processor on this baby is very good.

Congrats on your purchase. I want to see the Mitsubishi Laserview before making final decision and this new "professional" 65" can also be an option but chances are the 65PZ850 will be my next display.

I don't pay much attention to numbers (7K+ steps of gradation versus 5K+; 30K contrast ratio vs 60K) when deciding what display to buy. I do pay attention to reviewers whose opinions I trust. If you carefully read the HDGURU's review of the TH-65VX100 monitor and compare it to his review of the TH-65PZ850U, it doesn't appear that there's much of a real world performance difference between the the 2 displays, especially considering the monitor's MSRP is 3K more than the 850.

The monitor does pass the 1080i 3:2 pull-down test, while the 850 does not; however, all reviews say the failure to pass this test doesn't affect real world performance of the display.

It's interesting that there's no mention of a change or a fix for the 24fps input displayed at 48Hz flicker problem. All reviews have noted the flicker problem with the 800 and 850 series. You would think this monitor would have fixed that problem?

I'm sticking with my plan to buy the 65" 850 series. Now the only question is who do I buy it from and when?
