Best display for poker room. . .

OK, I'm turning the den into a poker room. Currently there's a 34" Sony CRT HDTV in there - which has been great and I've had for many years. Nothing wrong with it, just that it takes too much space and isn't very manueverable. I need something that goes on a wall.

So I'm thinking of getting a 2nd plasma.

Here's the thing, this isn't going to be the room for critical viewing enjoyment. The TV will mostly be used during poker games to have a game on or something, or when I or my wife are monopolizing our living room TV with something the other can't stand (it happens).

The living room, I sprung for a 50" pz850 - which is just awesome. I'd love to get something comprable, but don't think it's necessary given the 2nd TV status. But I don't want to get that looks bad either.

Two other issues with this room.

First, viewing distances and angles will be all over the map. I'm guessing I'm definitely going to put it on an articulating mount to give maximum flexibility. But choosing a size is difficult. From way back in the room, a 60 or 65" would be amazing. From other parts - way too big. Even a 42" might push it for the most extreme. I'm guessing I should pick a happy medium, 46 or 50 again. No real question other than to solicit thoughts.

1080p isn't a must in this room for reasons stated above - but I'm guessing there aren't many 720ps out there now. Maybe I can get a bargain on a really good one! Of course, above if I go 50" or above, I'm guessing I'll stick with 1080P. For now, my ps3 stays in the living room, but I could see myself getting a second one for the game room. . .hmm. . .maybe better stick with 1080p.

There are a lot of windows that stream a lot of light into all areas of the room. Unlike the other room, where carefully selecting seating arrangements minimizes reflections - that's not going to happen in the poker room. I could go with some heavy draping of some sort - but don't want it to look like a bordello. . .this is my man's room afterall. . .ONTH - I rarely watch TV during the daytime and my guess is that this room will get the most use at night, though it will also be used for having people over for games. . .hmm. Should I even consider an LCD? Now that I have a plasma, will the motion blur drive me nuts?

Thoughts and suggestions?

Since there's probably not going to be a lot of critical viewing going on, I don't think LCD's motion blur will be the issue. The viewing angles, however, will be a problem. I'd go with a plasma for that reason alone.

With all the light, you'll probably want a set with a reasonable anti-reflection filter. That unfortunately rules out the Samsung 450 series. The Panasonic px80 may be a good choice. A Pioneer 5080 would be great though they're hard to find.

I agree...save yourself by going with a non 1080p. I believe its not going to be a critical in viewing to your 850.
