Any suggestion and advices are appriciated!
Thank you

You need to find some way to extract the broken center pin from the sub jack. Try inserting a small screw to grab the inside of the tip and pull it out. The other sub jack is an input and does you no good.

I think that pin shouldn't be too tight in the jack, so you might want to try gorilla glue a small rod to the broken pin and pull it out?

Excellent advice. Now the OP can write asking us how to remove dried glue from the inside of the jack.

That was it. It didn't even occur to me to check that because I never set it when I first got it. Never read the manual either Everything just worked. I imagine it got reset on a firmware update. Thanks!

My amp short protection has been activated on my 706. It goes to stanby right after power up. I disconected everything left it unplugged, and still the same shut off/protector activation.

I assume the problem lies with the amp within? Yes that is a question If so, is there a way to repair this at home, avoiding ONKYO, or if not, is it worth it or should i buy a new receiver?

Thanks in advance for help guys....

Check your speaker connections at each end of the cables to make sure there is not a wire strand shorting one of the speaker terminals. Will the 706 power up with all speakers disconnected? If it does, do a reset (see the troubleshooting page). If not, contact Onkyo. There are no user serviceable parts inside unless you are a qualified repair technician with all the right tools. If it is out of warranty you will need to compare repair vs replacement costs and make your own decision.

As i stated, everything is disconnected and it still shuts itself into standby

Then you have a choice to make: repair or replace.

Is there any way to have the 706 do two things at the same time? What I want to do is;

1. Watch hockey on my tv through my cable box (just picture, no sound necessary),

2. At the same time, listen to a cd through my Sony cd player, or a playlist from my PS3

The cable box and ps3 are hooked up to the 706 through HDMI, the CD player is connected to the 706 via DigiCoax. Then, its HDMI out to the panasonic panal.

I'm assuming there is no way this would work as you can have only one source selected at a time, correct? I suppose the work-around would be connecting the cable box directly to the tv through component to another input on the tv.

Is there another way?

This is an out-of-the-blue comment which I meant to post about a year ago-

Does anyone notice that the sound via this receiver doesn't seem to be as clean/smooth as other Onkyo's of the same series? I initially bought the TX SR-606 before realizing there was another model for 100$ more with MultiEQ, so I traded up. At any rate, I noticed that the Audyssey generated sound on the 606 was very clean and clear. When I bought the 706 and ran Multi-EQ, I noticed that the sound just wasn't as cystal-clear sounding, despite being mated with the exact same setup. It sounded somewhat muddy compared to th crispness of the 606. I've noticed it to this day. Now, this could very well be the result of a more aggressive EQ with the 706, as 606 only has 2EQ. I had read that the 706 and the 606 use different amps altogether, and the 706 is even THX certified.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this and ask if anyone else has notice the same.

I suggest that you re-do MultEQ following the Audyssey setup guide in my signature.

Your assumption and supposition are correct.

From page 2 of the owner's manual:

"CAUTION:
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK,
DO NOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK). NO
USER-SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE. REFER
SERVICING TO QUALIFIED SERVICE
PERSONNEL."

Do you need me to explain that to you?

does that mean it cant be done?

Hey guys,I dont know if any of you 706 owners have come across this issue. The proformance on my center channel is not so great as other speakers (There's nothing wrong with speaker) The dialouges dont seem to be louder. I calibarated the speakers twice, and the preformance was still the same, i checked the wire connection on both ends, receiver and the speaker, everything seems to be fine. And when i tired playing a hindi dvd, the dialouges were louder, but for engllish blu ray the dialouges arent louder, I have all my speakers level calibaration up +5 db except for the center channel, its set upto +7db and im still not happy with it, it deteced my center channel as fullband. Is there any other setting i can do make my center channel more efficent.

Speakers Used
Front Klipsch rf-82's
Center Klipsch RC-62
Surround Klipsch RS-62's
Subwoofer Klipsch - RW12D
Thanks in advance!

If you have to ask the question, then no, you cannot do it. Take it to a qualified technician for repair.

If all of your speakers are set at +5 db (and the center to +7 dB), then you have not properly calibrated your system. I suggest that you read the Audyssey Setup Guide (link in my signature) and propely calibrate your system.

Thats what i asked the onkyo sales rep when i called them. He said your speakers are calibarated, you only increasing the efficeny by increasing your level calibaration. Thanks for the advice thou blue sky. And also is the 706 reciver 100 watts at peak?

Thanks again.

If the speaker trim levels are all set to +5 and the center to +7, your system is NOT calibrated properly. The only way all speakers would have the same trim level is if they were all identical and were all the exact same distance from your main listening position. The Onkyo sales rep doesn't know what he is talking about.

I have owned my Onkyo 706 now for over a year and a half and been completely satisfied with it.

That is until recently. I moved home, with my wife and 18month old twins, (ouch!), and set-up my Onkyo 706 and Kef-3005 system. Everything worked great (phew!), until today..

All of sudden, through all speakers (5), I have a hiss, static noise, followed by a light pop, which repeats every 10 seconds. Strange.. Adjusting the volume neither increases or decreases the volume level from the hiss and pop.

I unplugged all the electricity cables in the surrounding vicinity of my BDI cabinet, leaving only the receiver on, removed all the HDMI cables to other devices, removed each individual speaker cable leaving only one connected, same thing. Just to be sure, I removed that cable and plugged in another speaker, the same thing.

Is there anything else I could do to identify the problem? Could it be a grounding issue or am I going to admit defeat and look to repair/replace the receiver ?

I very much appreciate everybody's input. Thank you very much.

Apologies for the double post, but as I stated above, that increasing/decreasing the volume does not effect the level of the hiss and pop, is in fact not the case. I cranked the volume up and it noticeably gets louder.

Have you tried doing a receiver reset? Before you ask, it is the very first thing listed at the top of the troubleshooting page in the back of the owner's manual.

I did do that, thank you, but to no avail.

If u had it for less than 2 years, you could take it to the nearest onkyo service center and get it fixed.

Thanks gents.

Caveat, unbeknown to me, I purchased it off ebay and the warranty is invalid. Placed 2 calls, one to ONKYO, treated like a 2 year old by a gentleman called "Don" who was 0 help and actually quite mocking and the second to the retailer for selling me the unit claiming a valid 2 year warranty. Clearly both parties denied responsibility, leaving me in the shtum. What a wonderful experience..

Most manufacturers will list authorized dealers on their website. Or, you could try contacting the manufacturer directly if you're unsure if you are purchasing Grey Market merchandise.

You might try contacting ebay, Paypal or your credit card company to resolve this -- if a warranty was claimed by the seller.

Good luck.
