The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network HD 10/3 - Page 2

What special? I think if CN wil turn on their HD, it will be Friday for The Clone Wars premiere. If they don't then I think they are happy with this upconcert, stretched, squashed crap they have been giving us for months now.

It was a behind the scenes thing. I thought it was supposed to be in HD but I'm probably wrong. I watched 5 minutes of it and deleted it.

I was trying to set to record on DTV HD, but no see?

Also Sundays at 7 on CTV-HD in Canada -- the only OTA network in North America to be showing this.

The RC "Admiral Ackbar Cereal" commercial was also a hoot.

"You're tastebuds can't repel flavor of this magnatude!" Brilliant!

Had the same problem. As of last night, DTV was still indicating "no upcoming episodes" when you typed in clone wars using the "search for shows" function.

Found it manually in the guide on channel 296 at 9:00 EST (or 6:00 for me). Didn't have the "HD" tag.

Anyone know any info on when the TNT episodes start? I actually have that in HD.

Clone Wars' Brings Universes Together

Cartoon Net Limits Sponsors, Sharpens Focus on Partners

By Jon Lafayette

As Yoda would put it: In the premiere of Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars, limited will commercials be.

The animated series from George Lucas launches this week, and EA Games and 20th Century Fox will be the lone sponsors. EA will be offering viewers a code to help them play its new game, SimCity Creator, and 20th will be running a trailer for its upcoming film City of Ember, starring Bill Murray and Tim Robbins.

For our marketing partners, it's just a great opportunity to stand out in an uncluttered environment, said John O'Hara, executive VP of ad sales and marketing for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.

Promotional spots urging viewers to tune in to see the special material from EA and 20th Century Fox begin airing today.

The practice of running series premieres with few or no commercial interruptions is gaining in popularity. Several cable networks, among them FX and Cartoon's grown-up sibling TNT, have gone the no-commercial route. And this year, Fox is touting Remote Free TV, in which two of its series will be carrying half the normal number of spots.

Mr. O'Hara declined to say how much these sponsorship packages cost.

Suffice to say if you have a reduced commercial load, and you're doing a custom promotion, it's going to be a bigger-ticket item, he said.

Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network, now running third behind Nickelodeon and Disney Channel in the kids market, sees Clone Wars as a game-changer, Mr. O'Hara said.

This is the most significant programming event on Cartoon Network in our history, he said. It's a significant property with significant interest beyond just our core demographic. So that's a great opportunity for us and a great opportunity for our marketing partners.

Like most kids networks, Cartoon sells the bulk of its ad time based on viewers 6 to 11 years old. While the network expect Clone Wars to have a core viewership ranging from 6 to 14 years old, most ad sales were done based on the 6-to-11 demo.

I can't say that we did sell it differently, but I do agree that it will draw a bigger audience, Mr. O'Hara said. The show should attract older Star Wars fans, including some parents watching with their children.

While the network won't generate extra revenue from those viewers, it will benefit in different ways.

I think what it will do is bring new viewers to our network, which is important, he said. It will be on throughout the year, so in the upfront we sold it to a variety of partners and it really expanded our client base.

Mr. O'Hara said a significant amount of the time on Clone Wars was sold during the upfront, particularly for the fourth quarter, when kids advertising is most in demand.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the first weekly TV series from Lucasfilm Animation, will be part of Cartoon Network's Friday night of fantasy, action and adventure programming. It joins the new series The Secret Saturdays and Ben 10: Alien Force.

The series features the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and other Star Wars characters as the Jedi fight to maintain freedom and peace in the galaxy using an army of cloned soldiers.

Sure they have... They said they were offering Cartoon Network HD. Exactly the same as what they have said thus far about Clone Wars. I've not seen anything that says "Clone Wars will be in HD"... just "Clone Wars will be on Cartoon Network HD".

Cartoon Network HD is, in and of itself, a walking talking false advertisement that HD will be on the channel since thus far none has.

I will be pleasantly surprised if Clone Wars is in actual HD... but nonetheless it will be an epic surprise.
That's what I was thinking also. they state that it will be on Cartoon Network HD, and that it's available in HD, but what does 'available in HD" exactly mean to them? It may just mean that it will be shown on Cartoon Network HD, which we know means nothing because they have not shown anything in HD, when a lot of their programming is produced in HD. I really want it to be in HD and hope it is and hope this will change everything, I'm not trying to be negative, just don't want to get let down when it's shown in upconvert squash mode. We will see if HD is strong with this one

To be fair... I have some reservations about the content of the show, conceptually... as I've read others express that this is a show about "stuff that already has happened" in between other Star Wars movies. I'd be much more compelled if the show was new stuff post-episode 6 OR even pre episode 1 maybe.

So... IF the show is awesome, I'll watch even in stretched-depress-o-vision... but if it is marginal, it had better be actual HD or I'll lose interest after Friday's debut.

As well you should. After TESB, it became fairly clear that Lucas was a one-trick pony, or somehow had hit the powerball Lotto of Luck.

We watched the 1/2 hour preview with high hopes, but were pretty disappointed. . To be fair what little preiview there was (and I underline the word little), it seemed to drag with all the behind=the=scenes stuff, which featured two of the blandest people you will hope to meet in an entertainment venue (and they do the voices for 2 of the major characters).

And the animation, well with all the hoopla I was expecting something that was noticeably special and would draw you into their cartoon world because it would be rendered so realistically. Didn't happen.

But its the pilot, and they generally are not the best shot. We'll watch the premiere ep, and hopefully they will plug up the leaks. But, YMMV.

t-minus 10 hours 35 minutes.

I'm still unclear as to how this series and the movie are any different than the two Clone Wars movies that aired on Cartoon Network a few years ago.

CG animation now VS hand drawn before.

Otherwise, still covering the same story/timeline of the events btwn Eps II & III.
It is pretty close to the same timeline as the original clone wars cartoon, but the storyline (of the movie at least) was quite a bit different. I am looking forward to watching the show tonight, hopefully it doesn't dissapoint (I thought the movie was decent but could have been better).
Thanks for the info.
My kids (and I) are all psyched for tonight. I've been getting them to clear their plates and pick up the playroom (with no resistance) all week in anticipation of staying up a little late to watch the show tonight.

The 2003 clone wars cartoon was pretty good. My kids love the DVDs and they know Asajj and Count Dukoo more than they know Vader. The story line from that 2003 series is completely scrubbed from Star Wars lore, so don't expect the continuity to match up to it.

I am sure a lot of adults aren't going to like this series because its not meant for them. Just like my kids likely wouldn't like BSG. But hey, the highest rated network on cable isn't SciFi, or CNN, or even TNT. Its Nickelodeon. So there is something to be said for going after the "kid" market.
So if I didnt go see the movie, will I have missed out on anything? I read the movie was made up of 3-4 episodes of the show, but I also heard these episodes wont air until a later date. Would like to make sure one way before I decide to watch now rather than later.

That being said, put me down for more post-ROTJ adventures as well...tired of the prequel universe, and CGI allows the age of those actors to be irrelevant. Its obvious this is aimed at the kids that grew up on the prequels.
