This is a cross-post from the HDTV area:
Hey folks...
For some reason, though I have set my D* HD receiver to output a digital Dolby signal, my sports broadcasts (college football all weekend) and HD movie channels don't seem to output a true 5.1 signal. My receiver never kicks over, it just stays in 2.1 mode. I know it's not a receiver issue because my PS3 still kicks over to the proper output just fine. Any idea what the issue is?
Really can't figure this. My receiver is a fairly late model Sony 7.1, 3 HDMI ports, etc. No problems with PS3 audio but my D* box hooked up to the SAT port via HDMI never produces a true DD signal. I have the D* box set to digital audio output.
I BELIEVE that it's an HD-20 and not an HD-21 (it's a silver box, not black...our other more recent HD receiver is black). Is it possible that it's not passing the DD signal down through HDMI because it was one of the original HD receivers or something?
