Denon AH-D2000 Headphones

I currently have the Yamaha RX-V1800 AVR and I wanted to upgrade my Sennheiser HD595 headphones to better headphones since a week ago and I was stuck between the Sennheiser HD650 and the Denon AH-D2000 for the upgrade, because both of them have received excellent reviews. I was doing a lot of research on the two potential upgrades. Today I ordered the Denon AH-D2000 headphones www.headphone.com with the recommendation from the Sales Advisor and from gunbunnysoulja, who recommended me the D2000s on one of my postings that he/she answered. The Sales Advisor said the D2000s are a lot better the my HD595s. The main reason that I did not choose the HD650s is that that according to my research and others replying to my postings that I have to buy a headphone amp to make them run efficiently, this was also confirmed by the Sales Advisor at www.headroom.com.

If I really like the Denon AH-D2000 headphones, I might sell my Polk Audio Speakers and Polk Audio DSW PRO400 subwoofer.

I actually find myself using headphones equally as much as my HT rig.

While I wouldn't consider them a replacement, I do consider them a necessity. There are alot of times when 110db+ SPL isn't feasible, so the headphones do come in handy. I also find it alot easier to relax during HP listening.

The D2000's are fantastic.

And with HP surround simulation, alot of the time I completely forget I'm wearing headphones, especially with the comfort level they provide.

If you want further info regarding headphones, I would definately check out head-fi.org if you haven't already. There isn't alot of HP support here for some reason, although I have requested a dedicated HP section here at AVS in the past...

Kage, is there a question in your post?

I love my D2000 headphones...it's the most satisfying headphone I've had in a long time....and yes, I've owned many many headphones from AKG, Sennheiser, Beyer, Grado over many many years (yeah, head-fi disease), but I would never sell my speaker systems (HT system or computer speakers). I use headphones mainly when I need to avoid disturbing others, and need sound on the go.

HeadRoom gives decent advice on selecting headphones, I find my own preference mirrors theirs about 80% of the time, which is pretty good because I'm not usually influenced much by online reviews....that is, just because it's popular and well reviewed doesn't mean I'll like it. I always use my own ears to decide what is good and what isn't. HeadRoom does't have the cheapest prices, but they are a class outfit (bought many things from them over the years)

I received my Denon AH-D2000 today. I have it connected to my Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver headphone jack. The sound from the D2000 is excellent, far superior than my Sennheiser HD595. I did a comparison with both headphones. With my D2000s, I listened to music and watched 2 movies and I noticed more detail in the sound, better bass, and a bigger soundstage. The HD595 does not come close to the D2000s in sound quality.

I'm wondering if its worth trying out the HD650s, even though that I'm very impressed with the D2000.

You could give it a shot, as I don't have personal experience with the HP section of the 1800, but with the 805's HP out, the D2000 is superior to my ears.

The 650's come out on top for music when I bring an amp into the picture...

But opinions may vary.
