That was the whole point of this season. As much as Jax wanted out, he found out what happens when you have the power and now he can't give it up. Hence Bobby's comment about how he changed and also his conversations with Nero and Clay this season. Clay wanted to get enough and get out, but once he lost the head of the table he did everything he could to get it back, and even asked Jax what happened to Jax's plan to get out. The season starts with Nero telling him he has an exit plan and he's just trying to save enough money, then Jax figured out that Nero already had enough money to exit but didn't. Then there was the end when Nero said he'll get out if Jax does too, and Jax says good bye and walks out. As much as he wants to be his father and change the direction of the club or get out, he finds out he is also a lot like Clay, and what happens when you take over the head of the table.
