In reading posts to threads about TV shows over the years, I have noticed that there is a tendency for some posters to identify with the antihero star no matter how deplorably he has acted. I saw a lot of that most recently in the Breaking Bad
thread. Although Walt murdered people right and left and lied to and manipulated his family and his partner, there were those who continued to drink Walt's BS that he was doing it all for his family right up until the end when Walt admitted that he had done it for himself. Are you sure you aren't doing the same where Jax is concerned?
Jax planned for and executed the serial murders of Galen, his henchmen, and Clay. Along the way, he scammed the DA in order to set it up.He claims that he did it to get the MC out of the gun business but there is no way that under Jax's leadership the Sons aren't going to do their murderous business at the same old stand as had been the case when Clay was at the head of the table. Tara gets it. That's why her fear of Jax and desire to free her children from the influence of Jax and the club led her to take desperate measures, such as faking a pregnancy and miscarriage while framing Gemma in the bargain. I think I get it too. Jax is a monster, it seems to me.
I don't think Jax started out to be a monster and still deludes himself into believing that by getting the club out of the gun business they are going to become legitimate. For example, when the MC was on the way to break Clay out of the prison van, Juice told Jax that he felt like what he had done had made him bad but Jax says to him, "After this brother, it's all white hats and tight p*ssy." Surely, even Jax couldn't have believed that one.
