Remember, in our universe Charlie was infected by those worm thingies and Walter found a way to kill them before they took over his body. So these worms/arachnids weren't destroyed in the alternate world but instead they found a way to control them.

Heh, The West Wing shout out was weird.

This is building up nicely for a great finale next week. The only thing I really didn't like was the "X-Men" like powers of some of the characters. Olivia looked a lot hotter in the alternate universe.

I was F-ed...my DVR did not record. I got home around 9:30 and didn't see the record light going, so I missed the first half. Any options?

Fringe - just when you thought Lost didn't make any sense.

I thought that was kinda lazy how they brought back the other kids (I'm sorry, does anyone remember them? I know cancer boy, but I couldn't hear/remember what the other two's powers were or their stories) on some x-men **** so walter could bubble bubble toil and trouble them over to the other side and then BANG wrote them right out of the story again.

They were from season one, so yes I remember them.....Each had a dedicated episode. Nancy was in one of the best episodes last season (The Road Not Taken). Nick was in "Bad Dreams" which was also a very good episode...I remembered them both and thier abilities. The thing with Fringe is they usually go back and bring something from past episodes. These mythology episodes are not for people who jumped in without watching season 1 and Season 1 connects to Season 2 and vice versa. The reason they died was that James had over used his ability the night before they left, which caused them not to come over cleanly. Walter mentions this quickly after they cross over (he asks them if anyone had over used thier ability the night before). At least to me everything made sense and fit into place.

Great episode and I cant wait for part two next week. it was nice to see the Finge Division on the other side was a fully fledged department and "out in the open". It was interesting to see that "our" Fringe division was just getting the set up that the alter Fringe division already had. I also liked how they brought back the people from the past episodes that we had seen "taken" by Massive Dynamic. We finally got to see what they were up to with keeping them around in a secret facility (which we already knew for the most part). I really thought it was interesting the Broyles knew about everything going on there and he finally let the cat out of the bag. I thought Oliva should have questioned this though as he kept this from her.

It was really nice to see Alter-Olivia, Alter-Charlie, and Alter-Broyles ...Alter-Broyles was definitely more of an action man then our Broyles. Olivia seemed more out-going as well (must have been the hair lol). Alter-Charlie seemed the closest to our Charlie out of all of them though (minus the battle scars). I also noticed the worms\\arachnids reference. I think they through that in there so people remembered the worms episode ....

As I said before cant wait till next week ....Peter I think is going to figure out his current father is betraying him as well. Olivia may be the trump card in this equation.

Was Nick's alter character the captain of the fringe division who got torched? I didn't think they looked like each other and right before he got torched he recognized Nick and called out his name.

Pretty awesome episode of 'Fringe'. All the little easter eggs were cool; saved this one to go back and check them out a little closer. Neat scene between Peter and his real mother; you can see how conflicted he's going to be about going back. Loved everything about alternate badass Fringe Division. Loved how that universe's technology had advanced, and the vfx budget was clearly ramped up for this season finale.

Looks like the fabric of this alt-universe is weaker. They're constantly under attack from inter-dimensional instability or some such. All kinds of nasty thingies are always coming over. They seem to have these incursions all the time. Kind of reminds me of the British sci-fi series 'Primeval' in that regard.

And alt-Olivia is definitely hotter than ours. Red hair, sexier clothes, swashbuckling attitude - oh yeah! I like everything about the alt-universe! Should be a great finish next week.

You're right! I hadn't thought of it, but it is a bit of a rip-off of Torchwood--small team who respond to strange things popping in through holes in their universe. Olivia-nate had a heavy Gwen Cooper vibe .

Fun episode--can't wait for the season finale. Except for the coffee shortage, I like the other universe better than ours . Peter will be crazy to come back. Well, there is that coffee things and strange stuff popping into their reality all of the time and the fact that his real father is intent on using him to do something that threatens to destroy both universes...

I know this is off-topic, but I'm glad they are giving us another season of 'Primeval'!

It was good to see Bell (Nimoy) in this finale set up. One thing that hasn't been covered yet was what happened to the Bell of the alterverse. Our Bell has been there for quite a while and has not come back. There must have been a confrontation with the alter Bell given his role in both universes. Was this ever explained in a prior episode?

Sure it made sense because it had ever been mentioned before.
....wait.

I watched s1, I didn't take notes. just randomly bringing back bit characters for 5 minutes only to kill them off again immediately makes no sense. I felt like the cortexifan episodes were among the weakest in the series because they relied on the silly "olivia, you are the chosen one!" bit to work.

Nimoy retired (again) after next week's episode.

Hey Alter-Charlie - come over to our side.

You make a good point, but in fairness you have to remember that this series has been somewhat on the bubble from the get-go, so I don't think the writers had the luxury to devote complete episodes (or even significant portions of episodes) to those characters. They at least provided an explanation of who the heck these people are for those of us who drew a blank (or newer viewers), and their backstory from S1 is a nice gift to the devotees of the show.

The other thing that I think is at work here is the creative direction of the show - the writers have really struggled to find a direction for much of the series. The show started out as something quite different, then it suffered through the sequence of the interfering beaureacrat, and now seems to have found its purpose with the Walter/Peter story. I think they have done a good job of taking the original elements of the show, and somewhat repurposing them towards this storyline. Most any criticism you can throw at the show is probably valid, but I'm glad they've been able to hang around long enough to get to this stage of the story's development. They seem to have direction for their story, and it seems to have struck a cord with the audience.

Good news! I had heard it was dead. They really re-booted it for the second series (season), replaced much of the original cast, etc. I called it my "silly little British sci-fi show" (not to be confused with Doctor Who, which also fits that description).

Also noticed the 'Torchwood' vibe from last night's episode, minus the homoeroticism of course.

I've always said this show really wants to be a full-bore serialized sci-fi powerhouse and they've laid plenty of building blocks to pursue that course. FOX wants more stand-alone, MOTW episodes to try to recapture that X-Files glory. But they're not the same type of show.

Fox usually puts them up on FOX.com and Hulu within a couple of days. Both are free and legal. ZUNE also gets it the next day or so for a few $ on your XBOX 360 (if you have one). I watch them on XBOX all the time.

Was thinking about the ep more. So Walternate has kept alter-Fringe in the dark. Then who is running the mercury-borgs? He alone? I thought Fringe in alternate's world is DOD based so it's weird they don't know the truth. And I wonder who the dad is of the guy who got fried. Bell in the alternate world maybe?

And what about the blight and the rumblings about no coffee in the alternate world? NYC sure looked pretty good and unaffected.

There was definitely something up with Astrid. Not sure if it was robot eyes or maybe something in the way she interfaces with that tablet PC. You can tell in the way that Broyles was grilling her that she was interpreting the data differently somehow.

I was thinking...I wonder if Mr. Secretary is known by the general populace. Because if so, having our Walter stumble into a hospital with a bullet wound is really going to stir things up.

I wonder if Bell and/or Nina is playing both sides. Otherwise how would the alter-Fringe find our heroes in the park?

Regarding the coffee - there was a coffee 'blight' in the alternatie universe, mentioned in one of the earlier episodes

No, I know that. My comment was around why everything in alternate NYC looks so fresh and clean when earlier they have alluded to some nasty blight infecting the universe and as a result it has led to some crap failures like coffee. I wonder if they're retconning the blight or maybe just now portraying as localized.

Does anyone have a screen shot of one of the scenes on the street where there was a poster behind the characters which appeared to be political? It seemed to show Sarah Palin with Barack Obama or something like that. I didn't record the episode and only saw it flash by.

Sorry, I should have attributed the above screencap to where I found it. They have a lot here
