no comments/thoughts from anyone on John Noble's recent interview that the final season will be

Olivia will be back in 2036...we just don't know how or where she'll show up. She may have been ambered somewhere else...or...lived the 20 years underground training her daughter, not aging due to cortexiphan (this is Torv's hope, not something from the showrunner).

anyone know if FOX will be airing all 13 episodes back to back or will the season be split into 2 parts?...13 episodes starting in September would be a tight squeeze if they want to end in December (especially with the baseball playoffs interrupting things in October)

If they were starting in January, I'd say they'll run them concurrently for sure. But since they're starting in the fall, there will have to be pre-emptions as FOX still has the baseball playoffs as you say. Good question.

hopefully FOX will give the show it's due and not try and rush the final episodes by airing back-to-back episodes etc...if they are going to end it in December then they almost certainly have to double up on a few Fridays...otherwise the show will need a winter hiatus and return in February to finish out its run...with the show in the Friday death slot, low ratings etc I fear they may try and cram things in

I don't see what would be wrong with that. Hell, I'd prefer it if they were to run all 13 episodes continuously for 13 hours straight rather than to have them air 6 episodes, then have to wait until January/February to see the rest.

Depends on when they start, and on what night. Is it staying on Friday nights?

They also could double-up on some episodes... the last two could be shown in a 2-hour block and the first two could similarly be shown that way... IF they did that, then that leaves only 9 more individual-episode weeks... and that's easily doable by December even with some baseball pre-emptions.

Fringe is scheduled to return for it's final season on Friday, September 28th, at 9/8C. Fox has announced that they will run episodes of Kitchen Nightmares in the 8/7C hour until Touch returns in late October, so it doesn't appear that they plan on doubling up, at least in the first part of the season. As far as the MLB post-season schedule, it's hard to tell this far out due to this season's expansion, but there is not a World Series game scheduled on a Friday night at least (although there is always the possibility of weather related scheduling issues.) Barring any baseball preemptions, it looks like 8 episodes would be able to air before Thanksgiving and the PAC 12 Championship Football game is scheduled for November 30. I could see Fox taking it off for December, but scheduling the final episodes in January, having it end before February sweeps. I guess we'll see.

Who cares? It's not like they'd be rushing the production of the show. There are 13 more episodes, period. No more, no less. Like moob said, who cares if they play them all at once? Is there anyone left who follows serialized TV shows and doesn't have a DVR?

playing them back-to-back or too many episodes in a short time frame is not good for any show...those are for shows that networks are trying to burn off or for ones that no one really cares about...it's more out of principle that FOX should air the remaining 13 episodes in a manner consistent with the previous seasons...give the show room to breathe so fans can enjoy the remaining episodes on a week to week basis

drink it in slowly instead of guzzling down the entire bottle in a few seconds

I'm really not sure what you're trying to say. It's not good for the show, or it's not good for the viewer? Because the show is done no matter what, and watching many episodes of a series back-to-back is a very common practice, so I don't think many viewers would have a problem with it.

your point is about DVR viewing...my point is about the 'live' airing of the show regardless on whether or not people are recording it...airing back-to-backs is not a common practice for most network shows

Then you have the issue of selling commercial spots. You might get away with doing two back to back but I doubt you'll convince the same sponsers to buy space on 13 back to back episodes.

Ratings and the "death slot" are not really issues for FRINGE anymore, are they? I mean...this is the show that FOX could not kill, no matter how it tried.

The final 13 are happening - ratings will pretty much not play into the situation at this point (unless absolutely NO ONE watches the show, of course). FOX & WB obviously came to financial terms that make FOX happy...and make WB happy in the future with DVD/BD & future streaming/syndication options both in the US & abroad.

FRINGE has been a show I record, but still watch the night it aires. I could care less if they cram all 13 in one uninnterrupted run, or spread them out thru February. I'm just stoked & thankful that we fans get these last episodes at all.

USA Network is running spots for Fringe (reruns of course) starting November 11th.

The "spots" are using three of those "Glyphs" with no text at all, just a date "11/11/12". I was FF thru a commercial break and couldn't help but see those symbols. wink.gif

They're doing the same thing on the Science Channel. I'm not sure if it's the same date, but it's sometime in November.

Arguably, both Peter and Olivia have died...

One could argue that Peter had to die in order to bring forth the timeline that fixed the damage to the other universe...

Then Olivia had to die in that timeline in order to prevent the "primary" universe from collapsing.

So... they both already died to save the universe.

Now it will be somebody else's turn smile.gif

I wish we had seasons 5-6 to lead up to the season 7 finale with the Observers... instead of having season 5 be the Observer storyline... I have a feeling like there would have been more build-up and more tying of loose ends to show that there was a longer plan. I get the feeling that even those hated monster-of-the-week stories had method to the madness and would have built to the crescendo of the Observer story instead of just dropping us right into it.

So, um, say I watched a couple episodes of the first season and decided I'd been burned enough by shows with vaguely defined series long story arcs that are never resolved, and passed. So now, I've been reading more and more about how the show, esp. the writing, has improved over its run, and then there is those amazing trailers for the new season...Is this worth a marathan viewing session to catch up? Assuming the answer is yes, are there down periods in the show's run that are better off skipped? Or should I just plow through every episode until I'm current?

Get past the formulaic X-Files cloning of the first season and the first half of season two and you've got past the worst. When the show starts embracing it's own mythology nearly everything is worth watching.
