Long-time lurker, but I am seriously considering the 806 as my next receiver, as it does everything I need it do to, and yet leaves room for future expansion. I know the deal with the 805 vs. the 806, but I have a need to take a 1080i input over component and send it out over HDMI at the same res, and the 805 won't do that.
My issue is in regards to one of the previous poster's comments in this thread regarding using the 806 with a HDMI-to-DVI adapter. My DLP TV is from 2005, and at the time I wasn't going to spend another $300 for the same TV with an HDMI input vs DVI, esp since I had no intention of ever sending audio straight to the TV, and my understanding was that DVI and HDMI were 100% compatible from a video perspective per HDMI spec.
So, can anyone out there definitively say that have successfully hooked up the 806 to a DVI-equipped TV (HDCP-compliant, of course)? If so, was it with a straight cable or with an external adapter? I currently have a Sammy HD-950 DVD player hooked up directly to the DVI input on the TV with no issues, so I know that the TV is capable of negotiating a valid connection.
If this isn't possible with the 806 (or this line of Onkyo's in general), then I'll probably have to look elsewhere, which I really didn't want to do.
Thanks in advance...
