I saw this asked before in this thread but did not see a response.

Is there any way to use the 12 volt control output which is for zone 2 to control a component when using this for the primary sound system.

I use an external amp. There is no use of the 806 amps. I would like to ue the external 12 volt output to control my outlaw 5 channel amp.

Is there a way to do this?

I'm in the same boat. Also, what kind of cables do you use for the 12 volt trigger?

The recommended cable is a 3.5mm mono plug (center +). I'm using a 3.5mm mono to stereo adapter from the onkyo to a stereo 3.5mm plug on my Emotiva XPA-3 and it works just fine. Tried it w/o the mono adapter at the onkyo end and could't get it to work. Others have said that a stereo 3.5mm works at both ends, though for me it didn't.
amps are designed to run 115-120 volts or 230-240 volts though if you want cleaner power 230-240 would optimal setting for enough power supply to the amp....

then again i don't live in a country where they dictate what power goes where either..

single phase 230-240 is different 3-phase 230-240..

typically ducted aircon is usually in the realm of 3-phase same as your bores and your spa/pool pumps...

a ups may alleviate the symptom though it could aggravate even more...

I have a mono to mono cable, and that's not working. I'll try getting a stereo adapter.

Where are you plugging it in on the onkyo? I only see a zone two 12 volt.

I'm plugging it in to the zone 2 12 volt trigger output. Then turning on Zone 2 from the front panel of the Onkyo. When I do that, the XPA-3 turns on.

Awesome... Thanks putox.

I can't believe they would not implement a regular 12 volt trigger. That just seems like something that wouldn't of cost much money to implement.

I'm currently using an Onkyo TX-SR606 (with Infinity Beta 40s, 20s, C360) in a small room (12x18) with 42"LCD and Blu-ray and Comcast.
I sit about 6 feet from the front speakers and 8 feet from the rears.
Now I'm tempted to get the 806 for the better video upconversion.
Any other advantages the 806 would have over the 606?

look for the 807-it seems to be really good.

Does anyone know what the "IR Out" on the back of the 806 is used for? I'm trying to figure out the best way to power on my newly acquired Emo LPA-1. Looks like my only option is to connect them by way of the 12v trigger out (zone 2) from the 806. I also use a Harmony remote in this setup - does anyone have any recommendations on how best to set this up so that I don't have to manually power on the Emo everytime? Also pertinent to the discussion is that i'm only using 1 zone for the 806 and I have a 7.1 setup. If I power on the zone 2, and thusly power on the Emo via the zone 2 trigger, will I have to leave the zone 2 power on and will that cut any sound from my surround back speakers?

The "IR Out" simply outputs infra-red signals received by the 806. I turn my XPA-3 on w/ the 12 volt trigger from the 806, but I can't find a "Zone 2 on/off" code for my Harmony 880, so I have to use the Zone 2 button on the 806 inner panel to turn the Emotiva on. This has no effect on a 7.1 setup. All the speakers still function as long as you don't enable "Powered Zone 2" in the 806 setup menu.

Here ya go... just email these to Harmony CS and ask them to add it to your 806.

You could add the commands as extra startup/shutdown instructions for each activity that needs the power amps.

Even better, I think, would be... Instead of adding them to your Onkyo database, create a device for your XPA-3 and email these to Harmony as its PowerOn and PowerOff commands. That way you could add the amp as a separate device and the Harmony will keep track of turning it on and off for you.

For more info on sending the codes to Harmony, check HERE. The full Onkyo spreadsheet with ALL the receiver discrete hex codes is posted there as well.

Thanks for the info, but I can't get the link for more info to Harmony to work. I'll try e-mailing them anyways.

I got it to work this time. I e-mailed them the codes as you suggested. Hope their response is as quick as it was for your requests.

Doesn't the harmony already have a command for Zone 2 on/standby? I have a 605 and I can turn on my zone 2 with that - maybe it has to be setup as a separate device? That might be easiest - just have the harmony turn on the 806 zones 1 and 2?

I stand corrected. You select "Zone 2", then "Power on/standby", which will then activate the 12v trigger. Also, Harmony has updated the database for the 806 to provide seperate "Zone 2 On" & "Zone 2 Standby" buttons.

Where are you seeing the "Zone 2 On" & "Zone 2 Standby" buttons? I just went into my Logitech software and added a new 806. Then from the devices screen i clicked on the Settings button for the newly added 806. I then selected Customize Buttons, and in the next screen I clicked on several of the drop down boxes but didn't see the Zone 2 commands in the drop down list. I also checked on the Additional Buttons page but could not find it. Please direct me to where you are seeing these new codes? I am assuming that you mean Logitech added the codes for everyone and not just you.

keep in mind that when you add the TX-SR806 as a device, you're also prompted to add 'zone 2' at the same time. the software adds it as a second device to your account so that it can keep track of the second zone. zone 2 has discrete power commands within it's profile...but I don't know if they differ from the zone 1 discrete commands...I have to assume they do though, otherwise it would be too tough to control

Thx Wannabe - but yeah I already have tried that. The 806 does ask if you want Zone 1, 2, or both setup when you add it as a device. I tried setting up my activities by having 806 - Zone 1 and 806 - Zone 2 both used and powering on. I even went so far as to have the Zone 2 turn on very last in the order of devices. No dice......Zone 2 doesn't turn on this way.

then I would contact logitech and let them know the commands don't work. personally, I've never used zone 2 on any receiver I own...

I think they added them just for me Seriously, I found them the day after I sent them the hex codes, at the very bottom of the available commands. I use a Harmony 880 , and all I had to do was add these to the power on and power off sequences for all my activities, after adding them to my 806 device.

Ok... I added the mono to stereo adapter on the onkyo end. The onkyo still doesn't power the amp on. I'm stuck.

Can you measure to see if you have 6 to 12vdc from the tip(+) to the base(-) of the end you're plugging in to your amp? If not, either the cable is bad, or Zone 2 isn't turned on. Also check continuity of the cable, and ensure it's not shorted.

Are you using a regular 1/8" audio mono cable with mono to stereo adapter on the onkyo end?

I tried turning zone 2 on with the onkyo remote, and not my harmony. No go.

I'm using a 3.5mm stereo cable w/ a mono to stereo adapter at the Onkyo end. I've read on various forums that a stereo cable should work, but I couldn't get it to. After I added the adapter, the Emo powered up. You realize that to turn on Zone 2 ( with the original 806 remote) you have to first press the "Zone 2" button, then "power on /standby". If your Zone 2 indicator light on the 806 comes on, then you should see 12vdc at the cable tip.

Yeah, I get the zone 2 light to come on. I think I know the problem. You're using a 3.5mm stereo cable, and I'm using a 3.5mm mono cable. I'm gonna try to pick up a stereo cable today.

I'd recommend getting a mono to stereo adapter at the same time, since we have the same setup. You may need to configure it the same way I did to get it to work.

could you dumb it down for me and send me a link for each of the items you are using for your setup?

EDIT - just was trying some stuff again, and I noticed when I manually press the Zone 2 button on the front of the 806, the light comes on and the display shows 'Zone 2 Selector - OFF', for about 3 seconds and then Zone 2 turns back off. I pressed it again and selected 'DVD' and it stayed on. I wonder if this has anything to do with the Zone 2 not turning on the Amp? I will try again in a few and report back.
