When using 1080p RGB signal via HDMI IN while using video processing of the AV

Cause:
Slightly blunt waveforms lead to data missing, which can cause this noise at a dataintensive
part of image.
Solution:
Change 3 resistors from 33 Ohm to 0 Ohm: R8507, R8510 and R8513 on NAHDM-9702.
Parts : R8507, R8510, R8513
Description Part No. Q'ty
Original (Before) RM7LJ330X04 43484733004R2 1 pc each
Measure (After) RM7LJ000X04 43484700004R2 1 pc each
If this measure is applied to production a "G" will be added to the end of serial number

Has anyone tried this? Maybe I'll try this when I get my receiver back.

Bummer about the repair costs ($650 +shipping). I sent in my TX-SR806 two months after I got it for a new HDMI board and again a year later when the power relay failed. I purchased the extended warranty after that just in case.. Haven't had to use it yet and it's been almost a year now... The extra 2 years of coverage is only like $65...

Now I have to pay to get the receiver back...

Not sure what I'll do now....this blows...

Onkyo just authorized a one-time repair!!!! Phew!!

Hey folks, I've run into a video issue with my TX-SR806 and am hoping for some insight. I turned it on a few days ago and the television displayed only an odd pink snow filled screen with some vertical banding. The faintest hint of an image can barely be seen beneath all the noise. The audio is absolutely fine. This happens with both the cable feed and the blu-ray player, which are the only two components hooked up to the receiver.

I have hdmi connections running into the Onkyo from both the cable box and the blu-ray, and a single hdmi running from the receiver into the to the TV. I swapped the hdmi cable from the Onkyo to the TV with two other brand new cables with no effect. When the Onkyo is taken out of the equation and the cable/blu-ray are hooked up directly to the TV all works fine.

I've been running the same set up for a little over two years with no issues. As far as I know, none of the settings have been changed. Unfortunately, I can't get anything at all coming out of the Onkyo to display on the monitor, so I can't visualize any menu items to check the settings.

Any thoughts are very much appreciated. Thanks.

So. I finally got my receiver back from United Radio. They replaced the HDMI board.

Hdmi handshake seems to be better.

The blue pixels on the left side of my LCD seem to be worse though.

They aren't there all the time. They seem to come and go depending on the scene. I've been noticing it for OTA tv programming from my HTPC. It doesn't happen when the HTPC is directly hooked to the TV.

Is it possible the replacement HDMI board is also flaky? Or is this receiver just slinky incompatible with my HTPC?

Is there any way of using the receiver for just audio and directly connecting video to the receiver, without losing audio quality by using optical? Maybe some type of HDMI splitter?
Sent the receiver back to United yesterday. Blue pixels were still happening. I could get them to go away most of the time by turning off the OSD.
Got the receiver back again. They replaced the HDMI board again. The blue pixels still happen when OSD is turned on.

I give up. At least it is mostly working. I'll just turn OSD off. It isn't that big a feature, I was just used to it.

Took 2 months and a lot of shipping and packing peanuts for this. Hardly seems worth it now. I appreciate Onkyo replacing the HDMI board and United trying to fix this thing, but it seems like the HDMI circuit on this thing is just a lemon.

This will probably be the last Onkyo receiver I buy....

Sorry I didn't see this posted earlier. Have you tried hooking the Onkyo up to the display using A/V or SVideo then maybe resetting some of the settings to factory?

It could be the HDMI board is going out. Seems like a common problem on this generation of Onkyo receivers, although not sure if your symptoms are what other people have seen.

So after a few months of back and forth, Onkyo replaced my TX-SR806 with a TX-NR809. Awesome!!!!

No funky blue hdmi stuff and network too!

We just changed TV's and in the process I re-setup my equipment. When I first turn on the receiver after it has been off for a while the noise out of the speakers is extreamly loud. Volume is still set low but the noise is unbelievable. I mute it and cycle the listening mode and then it starts working fine after a couple minutes.?.

The TV, Cable box and Blue-ray are all connected to HDMI. Also have a X-box, Wii and older CD player connected. We have 4 back speakers, 2 front speakers, a center speaker and a sub (all klipsch).

The Image is great but sound at power up has to be fixed! Please help!

Best Regards ~ Darryl

Okay, I pressed the VCR & Standby button. It said clear. I have unplugged it and will turn it back on a little later to see what happens.
Did not resolve the issue, any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Well, very sad news... I think my 806's HDMI board is getting close to fully crapping out. For the past few weeks, it took like 10-15 seconds for HDMI to handshake and finally display on the LCD-TV. Normally it would take less than 5 secs for my HTPC, and 3 seconds for cableTV & Bluray. Yesterday, it takes a full minute to handshake, and sometimes, it doesn't handshake & sync at all no matter what I do. I have to unplug the Receiver's power and do it all over again.

I checked the manual, it says it's got a 2-year warranty? I bought mine back in 2009 and it's been 2.5 years. What do you think Onkyo will do if I call them? /sigh Do you think they'll fix it or do nothing? I'll never buy another Onkyo again.

I have a TX-SR 806 that I purchased almost three years ago from Newegg. I'm having similar issues as some others that have posted, but not exactly.

My problem is that my receiver has recently started refusing to output any 1080p sources at seemingly random intervals.

It started happening a few weeks ago. At first I thought it was my htpc not outputting correctly, so I tested with a 360 and PS3 with the same results.

My cable box, Wii, and Apple TV work just fine since they are not 1080p sources.

All are hooked up via various decent HDMI cables, except for the Wii of course.

Any 1080p source just gives me no input messages on the receiver display and tv.

The HDMI out is set up to pass through to a brand new Samsung Plasma TV.

It will work perfectly for several days in a row and then just stop for no apparent reason. Power cycling and factory reset have no effect. If I just wait it out, it eventually starts working again, but seems to be getting progressively worse.

I haven't had any issues with blue dots, as I have the corrected "S" model. The on screen menu always works fine too since its a 480 signal.

Any ideas on what my problem may be here?

Would you be inclined to think its the HDMI board in my case as well?

Onkyo support just referred me to a service center half way across the country.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Update. Fixed my Onkyo TX-SR806
this weekend I pulled my receiver apart. Using this guys info (sorry for not being able to post the whole link, AVS will not allow me you can type the www stuff) youtube.com/watch?v=gj0x5S9ez5U . Even though my receiver is different. I had nothing to lose. I pulled the HDMI board out and there are 13 100uf 4volt capacitors on both sides of the board, I went to Radio Shack and bought all the 100uf caps they had, a mixture of radial and axial caps, all of them were 100uf but the voltages were 35 and 50 volts, I believe the voltage does not matter on a cap as long as the cap is rated for more volts than the board is supplying. I replaced all 13 caps and my receiver is now working perfectly It really was very easy and took me a few hours. Hope this helps others. If you need any help getting the board out let me know and I can help you with some tips. Mike

Hey mike, is the receiver fully functional? OSD and all. If so, how much in total did you spend on capacitors.

yes Joe everything is working perfectly, inc OSD, as a matter of fact I don't remember my receiver ever sounding or working better. The capacitors were about $19 total but you can get them all matched online for under $10.

congrats to you, sorry I did not see your post till today, or I would have walked you through some of the tricks I found. did you use the Radio Shack caps? I had to go to 3 stores to find enough to do mine did you do all 13 caps? One of the tricks was I put a black magic marker - mark on the board before I took the old caps out, that way I always knew where negative was, and I could take them all out at once, also the magic marker pointed out where they belonged. also make sure you have plenty of ventilation on top of your receiver now.

As a current 806 owner who has had my hdmi blue dots fixed under warranty by Onkyo, I am contemplating purchasing the 3009. I have a new dedicated media/home theater in my new home and feel the need to upgrade. Have any 806 owners jumped to the 3009?

If so what are your experiences with the 3009 compared to the 806?

Any info would be great. Thanks.

Onkyo will fix the blue dot problem for free. So if you are having HDMI sync problems send it in and claim the blue dot fix. If your is the G one with the fix you will need to replace the 100 uf caps. I just did mine this week and now it works great. I got 50 of the caps at Newark for $2.50. Just be careful it is a pain. Be sure you don't pull the surface mount solder pads off. I pulled one off but fortunately I have the schematics to refer to. If you decide to do this you could easily do the blue dot fix yourself while your at it. Oh, one more thing, on the HDMI board there is a note saying to short TP1 before removing the board. I did not do it with no ill effect (it was to late) but you should do it, I guess they want the caps discharged before removing the HDMI board. If it has been unplugged for 20 minutes or so it should not matter.

If anyone is interested in a used 806 I'm getting rid of mine. Works flawlessly. Never any issues. PM me if you are interested.

Just done mine today as HDMI switching had stopped working.

Changed the 13 capacitors with Panasonic 100uf 25v and all working great now.

Same here. I had the 806 with the hdmi`s completely gone. Used the youtube video from post above, Switched out the 13 capacitors and all is back to normal.
Does anyone here have a service manual for the 806? On July 4th mine popped after a lightning storm. What's weird is that nothing else got hit. Anyway, now when you try to turn it on from Standby mode, it just clicks back off, then on,then off etc. I've found a lot of threads where people complain about this same problem but never with a resolution posted after they've had it fixed. Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve
