First time post. My decision was between the Onkyo 806 and Denon 2809ci. Since I'm not a very sophisticated audiophile, I went with the Onkyo as it appeared to be easier to set up, had 5 HDMI Inputs, and was somewhat less expensive. I've had the Onkyo for about 2 weeks and I can say I'm very happy with it. Connected via HDMI: Oppo 980H (for my surround SACD and DVD-A discs), PS3 (Games and Blu-Ray), Toshiba HDA2 (HD-DVD's), XB360 (games), and Directv. Also connected Wii via component video and assigned it to the CD input (very easy to do). One HDMI line out to my 50" Panasonic Plasma. Using "pass through" for all video. Have not noticed any degradation in any of the video outputs. Did use Audyssey for speaker (5.1) set up. Distance is correct but had to adjust all speakers to 80Hz and slightly increase the volume for rear speakers. Didn't notice any problems with the heat from the AVR (but my console is open in the back and the heat is dissapating ok (actually have a cassette deck on top of the AVR). I'm sure there are better units out there but this one is working fine and is easy to use for all my family members....especially for my son who uses it for all his games.
