When highlighted the SW Upgrade, press the Info button on Remote

Thank you. I've had this TV since 2008 and never knew how to do this.

I have two numbers: module 1004.0 and micron 1003. Is one of these the firmware. Version?

I believe you have firmware version 1004 its the first one after the initial T-SPHAUSC, followed by a date.

Ok. That's helpful. Thanks again.

I believe the consensus is that earlier versions are better than later versions. If you're not having any problems, don't update.

Good to know. So far other than that pesky red line from top to bottom which has now been eliminated with the "reset" this Tv has been a-okay or me.

Today I used an app called iMediaShare on my iPad and was able to stream content from my iPad to the A850. Not bad for a TV that I bought on 2008!

ugh...the red line is back on my A850 panel. This time the factory reset didn't clear it like the first time.

Anybody hear of this issue on the Samsungs A850--A constant red "line of pixels " from top to bottom of the panel/screen? (I searched through this thread and didn't find any mention of a red line)

I had a similar problem - ugly green line. Mine was a physical issue.

I fixed it by gently rubbing every inch or so along the line. In my case, the magic spot (stuck pixel?) was about halfway down the screen. When i massaged that spot, the line disappeared. It's come back once, but by pressing on the same spot, it disappeared immediately.

Hope you have similar luck!

Hi all -

A long time ago I downgraded my firmware, in hopes that it would improve flashlighting. It didn't. However, I'm now stuck with the on/off sounds, and would like to make those go away. Not an option in my current fw (1002, I believe.)

Does anyone have latest known good fw that they could post?

Thanks
Kris

PM your email and I'll send you firmware 1003. If the on/off sounds your talking about are the chimes you hear when turning the tv on and off you could disable that in your settings.

Hello Thanks--in my case the line runs from top to bottom . I tried to rub it out but seems to be very persistent--and of course I am out of my warranty period.

I have a feeling this might be a panel issue and may require a new panel Anybody have any idea what a new panel might cost more or less for the LNA46850? I contacted my local service technician but he needs to come out and examine the TV and charges a fee to do so ( which is understandable.)

Edit:

I just found this "fix it" URL. I am not sure about the solution recommended ( I have no expertise in electronics)--but the picture of the red line ( scroll down to second pic) on the LCD panel is exactly what I am experiencing.

Based on previously mentioned capacitor issues, your A850 may still be under warranty.

Check with samsung support (customer service), I was suprised to find that mine still is (after the initial year and a-half period).

Thank you. I'll look into that. I have reset the TV four/five times now and the last time the red line disappeared again....hmmmm..I expect it will be back so I'll give Samsung another call--they have been very friendly so far. Not sure what the Capacitor recall issue is ( something to do with power I suspect) but I'll ask and see if it can help my situation. Thanks again for the tip.

First the bad news: They have to replace my TV panel ($$$$)
Now the good news: Samsung offered to extend my TV warranty 30 days and will cover all costs for this repair. WOW

Make sure cables are firmly plugged in on the back.

If that doesn't do it, unplug it from the wall or power strip for 5 minutes.

Can you get a menu on the screen?

It's sitting here "off," but all the red LEDs on the bottom are on except the source? Even the LED all the way on the Left?

Its been off for about an hour?

First, the red LED on the left comes on when you turn off the TV.... it's a "Standby" indicator. It goes out when you turn the TV on.

So try it again. Unplug the power cord for a few minutes and all LEDs will go out, then plug it back in. The red LED on the left should go on indicating it's in Standby, but not turned on yet.

Try to turn it on with the Samsung remote control and make sure the red LED on the left goes out, then you know it's "on". If you can't get it to go out, maybe your remote isn't working, change the batteries. If that doesn't work, try to turn on the TV with the Power On button on the right side of the TV bezel. Check the manual to see where it is, or I can look it up tomorrow... I never use it so don't know offhand.

If the Standby red LED on the left goes out, then the TV is indeed turned on. Hit the menu button to see if you can get a menu up on the screen. That will prove the screen itself works.

If you can get a menu or anything up on the screen, then make sure your HDMI or component cables are plugged in firmly and try to watch something.

What do you have hooked up to the TV? If you are only trying a cablebox, and you have a DVD player or blu ray, try one of them to see if anything comes up.

Well i have the same problem on mine. Picture disappeared, still had sound, source light blinking, backlight still ON. couldnt get menu or any display.... After a bit of searching online i found it to be the T-Con board which is $100 and is simple to replace. it basically controls all Video. Replaced it and 2 weeks later it blew out again which means something on the main power board is shorting i think. I dont have any swollen or leaking capacitors which is the most common problem on these so im at a bit of a loss too. I have a another new T-con board coming but would like to find out if anyone knows what the problem might be specificly as to what is shorting out the board..
Anyone??????

The Value of these HDTVs has actually gone UP....

Strangely, the 46 inch TV cost more than the 52 incher.

For those curious, samsung typically offers their 1 year parts/labor warranty. After that, they have a policy of a "1 time courtesy repair" after it is out of warranty. Just once though, not twice.

Found this out when dealing with warranty claims with Samsung. The original sales rep that was handling my claim that was just out of warranty told me she was extending my warranty for another year for free. 9 months later I ran into a problem again, and called in, just to find out it was a courtesy repair..not an extended warranty.

Thanks for the info.
Yeah good to know...I still have the 4 year Best Buy warranty...

The Sharp Elite looks amazing, but its costly...I wouldn't want a "new" Samsung.

Maybe CES will have a worthy Samsung replacement for the A850s/A860s.

I just copied the following from a LN46B640 manual I had online:

"If the unit is accidentally set to Store Demo mode and you want to return to Home Use (Standard): Press the volume
button on the TV. When the volume OSD is displayed, press and hold the MENU button on the TV for 5 seconds."

I believe you can press the buttons on the remote instead of on the actual TV.

Another possible way to get out of Store Demo might be to unplug the TV for a few minutes, plug it back in and hopefully it will go through the initialization phase again in which you can set it to Home Use.

Hope this helps.

Mine has been pretty good for over 3 yrs now. Wife called a while ago and said there was an aqua blue line running down the middle of it. This was on cable tv/Comcast. It was there for a few minutes on a couple different channels. By the time she called me it had disappeared.

Hoping this isn't a sign of bad things to come. Anyone see something like this before?
Just got home. Blue line is definitely back. I switched inputs to e wii and it's there. mad.gif

Any ideas of things I can try on this?
