New Hitachi LCD's At CEDIA

Hitachi was demonstrating some new LCD's at CEDIA. These displays look like a compelling option. Here is a link to them http://www.hitachi.us/Apps/hitachico...e/ubcg/&nId=iD.

Did I read it right? It, UT47X902, has only one HDMI input and the largest size is only 47"! Talk about limited number of inputs for the latest model.

Is there a reason why these are compelling aside from how thin they are? I see they have IPS panels but Panasonic does as well and their 37 inch is half the price of Hitachi's. I suppose the processing is super good on these panels?

They appeared to look very good and be very thin. I was not able to fully check one out, but they had a very nice image unlike many other LCD's.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know which models on the page are the new ones at CEDIA?

It seems as if their top of the line (the 902?) has been available at Best Buy for a while now.

No. Here is their press releases http://www.hitachi.us/Apps/hitachico...s/Press-Media/ and http://www.hitachi.us/Apps/hitachico...s/Press-Media/. The 50" Director series was one of them I was looking at and it is not shown in the previous list.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. It seems the 47 inch and several 32 inch models are the new additions to the Director's Series line up.

I read a review on Hitachi's European version of these LCDs (http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/re...42in-LCD-TV/p1) a while ago that was positively gushing but I was quite skeptical. However, if one of the best calibrators feels positively about the display, I suppose it merits a closer look.

Until I get my hands on one I will not know for sure, but they could be the best in class or at least close to Samsung. I just thought I would mention it since I see very little discussion about Hitachi LCD's.

Understood. I really hope you do get to post detailed impressions some time in the future.

I haven't seen one in person but the pictures make it look like a beautiful display cosmetically.
