Time Warner 8300HDC diagnostic screen?

So I did some searching on here and seen where it showed you how to get to the diagnostic screen by holding select on the box and when the mail LED comes up hit INFO but everytime I try this nothing happens....Ive tried this with the PVR turned off and on. Ive also tried the remote way by holding the pause button down and it says to wait till you see the mail LED but when I hold down the pause button the mail LED never appears. The reason I wanna get into the diagnostic is recently Im having big problems with my HD channels flickering and freezing for a second. Can I not see the diagnostic screen because im connected thru HDMI cable? or am I doing something wrong??

The method to access the diag mode varies with the cable system's software.
Its different depending on if they use SARA, Passport, Navigator for example.
