The Mentalist on CBS HD - Page 11

Jane hoped nobody but his CBI buddies would knew what he was planning, as soon as someone from the FBI knew the plan was toast.

I'm still on the Stiles (McDowell) boat that it's him..

It did seem a little unplanned given that Jane spent SIX MONTHS of effort playing a role designed to draw RJ out. He really looked, well, incompetant at his task of getting RJ for the killing of his family.

Yeah, there is a chance of fooling the CBI, but not the FBI I guess. With all the high tec gadgets, DNA matching, heck, just fingetprints, she deduces the scam using a tape measure. REALLY?!?!

I too am in the Stiles/Visualize is RJ camp. I think there is a slim possibility that the person who actually started Visualze, who is presumed dead, might RJ.

I guess the new CBI director was NOT the RJ mole. I really thought he might be the one.

In episode 3 season 3 , estiles told jane where to find cristina, and later they said that stiles left the country. After that nobody worried about stliles and his lynk with red john. Why nobody asked him how he knew where to find kristina. And in season 4 stiles is back and nobody bothers to ask. If this is a mistake , what a joke

What, no one watches this anymore?? frown.gif
post #305 of 639
Yeah, we watch it. Usually a day or two later on the DVR. Some of the episodes lately have been getting kinda "dumb". But last week was pretty interesting, with the "throwback" theme and all.

I'm curious how you found this thread.. manually or with the "search" engine. I had tried the search earlier this week without success. I found it manually on page 7 of the forum. I was going to post at that time, but instead posted to the Search issues thread.
You can't find anything with their search engine unless you are lucky, ever since the software has been changed. The few times I tried, all it did was brought up completely unrelated threads. Others have reported the same thing.
I was already subscribed to the thread.

I missed the previous one or maybe two episodes due to football shifting the start time. Was there something that led up to this?

Not that I recall. We've seen all the episodes this season, I have the TiVo set to pad an extra hour so we don't miss the endings. This episode struck me as being totally out of the blue, unexpected. But we found it to be better than many of the recent episodes have been.

Quite frankly the new search engine sucks! It wouldn't seem so bad if what we had before hadn't been so good frown.gif
I'm still watching the Mentalist but since I DVR it I'm not always up to date. I really dislike the new time slot and like WS65711 I pad the ending by 1hr. 45 minutes would catch 95% of the episodes but Tivo only does 30 and then jumps to 1hr unless I do a manual event. To make matters worse I also DVR the Good Wife which is before the Mentalist, I don't pad the Good Wife but more often than not the ending of GW is on the beginning of M. Sunday night is the WORST timeslot on CBS and has been that way for many many years mad.gif

As someone who only started to watch the Mentalist after the first season, this episode left me curious as to how they actually began the series. I would have thought this "throwback" episode would have been something along the lines of the actual series introduction. Apparently not, based upon this episode. So, Jane was already well-established with the unit, working cases, etc., when this series began?

Not sure how well this works in every browser but in Firefox, when I don't get the results I want from a forums search engine, I use this method (don't know what it is called but I have been using it for several years, as needed):

In the address bar at the top, you wipe out the address that is there and you start by typing in a relevant keyword. If you are getting too many results with just one key word you can try multiple keywords. In this case, you would leave a space after the first keyword and then add a "+" sign immediately in front of each additional keyword. When done with keywords, leave another space and then type, "site:" and immediately follow it with the website address you want to search.

So in this example of trying to locate mentions of The Mentalist on this forum, the first keyword combo I tried was the following, which brought up immediately useful results (this thread was the first in the list of search results):

mentalist +cbs site:www.avsforum.com

It's a bit of an art form choosing optimal keywords so this search method can be hit or miss sometimes, but if often works very well.

I don't remember it, but if you set your DVR for 4:00pm Eastern time to TNT this Monday 11/5 the Pilot will be airing and should start showing eps in order for the most part.
Good tip for those who do, but I don't get TNT.

I'll just go seek out some wiki entry for episodic descriptions of The Mentalist for their first season and satisfy my curiousity that way. Every other series I've ever searched had such a page on Wikipedia.

As I remember, the first episode of The Mentalist pretty much picked up where the "flashback" Episode 100 left off. I think I remember Jane doing his nightclub act and then either getting called to go home or just going home and finding the bodies of his family. Then, it jumps to him working for the CBI. I think the "mental hospital" wasn't mentioned originally. I will definitely be recording the pilot on TNT to refresh my recollections.

By the way, as a bit of trivia, Robin Tunney (Teresa Lisbon) was the "featured patient" in Season 1, Episode 1 of "House" long before The Mentalist. (Damn, I watch too much TV) smile.gif

Me and you both, she was a school teacher and House was even a halfway decent person in that episode.
Missed that one too! House was another series that I only started watching after about the 2nd season or so.
Robin Tunney also played Veronica Donovan in Prison Break..

She has been in many movies as well... when I first started watching The Mentalist I did a movie search on Netflix (instant streaming) and found several movies including... Cherish. A role (and age) much different than on the show...

Nice to see Cutthroat Bitch back on TV.

I have been vocal about wanting to wrap up the "Red John" aspect of the show, but I thought last night's episode did a good job of having a main storyline with the "Red John thingy" in the background. It still let us know Patrick Jane's real reason for being a part of the CBI.

Yes, here and on Criminal Minds... I guess she's still playing the "bad girl" everywhere...

I'm wondering if Morena Baccarin will be back in this show, she's doing well on Homeland but she did some episodes here while she was filming the other show, and IIRC she's still free in a beach somewhere.

I laughed at how many times they hid Amanda's belly this episode... I guess is desk jobs / behind counters/ loose clothing, until the end of the season

I liked her better on House. If I hadn't seen her name in the opening credits I'm not sure I would have recognized her.
Huh? You know her by name but wouldn't have nessarily recognized her by face? That's odd, it's not like she looked radically different in this episode compared to how she looked in House.

I thought she looked quite a bit different. She seemed much prettier and more likeable in House even though she lived up to her nickname. Her face seemed fuller on The Mentalist.
Perhaps so, I'd have to go back and look. Anyway, she was immediately recognizable to me, for whatever it's worth.

So, could the Homeland Security guy at the end of Sunday night's show be the "real" Red John? He asked Teresa to meet him for coffee sometime and she said ok. Then he bumped into Patrick in the hallway on the way out and spoke to him by name. Patrick said, "Do I know you?" and the guy replied something to the effect, "No, but I know you?" Could he be plotting to kidnap Teresa on their coffee date? Maybe I watch too many crime dramas but my mind is working overtime on this one.
Don't worry, it's only Professor P. Professorson! biggrin.gif

My guess is that he is yet another of RJ's minions... or, could they even go there and make "Desmond" Red John? I won't be surprised by the amount of power he has, at the very least he knows him personally.
Ooooo... The Red John plot really thickened on last night's episode. And didn't Lorelei look lovely as usual. For those of you who haven't seen it yet, a name was mentioned that I think we have heard before, but although I've seen every episode from the beginning, I'll be darned if I know who it was or what he looks like.

We have a small clue though, Patrick Jane shook hands with Red John. Assuming that Lorelei was telling the truth.

Yes, but the bigger clue was that Lorelei's sister wrote the name "Roy" just before she died. Was "Roy" a complete name or was she trying write a longer word with the first three letters R-O-Y-? As for Patrick shaking hands with Red John, remember that in just the previous episode he shook hands with the new Homeland Security guy. I'm sure there have been others.
