LCD TV Buying Advice

I am undecided between the Samsung LN40A550 (1399 CAD) and the LG 42LG50 (1199 CAD).

I would use it for the following...

- all audio would be going directly from console/pc to reciever... not the tv
- Xbox 360 connecting to TV via Component
- PC connecting to the TV via VGA
- PC connection would be used for watching DVDs and video files
- TV is 8ft from seating area
- No HD TV, just SD TV programming
- budget is around 1200 (i can push for the Sammy, maybe get discount)

I want it to be 1080p to keep my options open for the future to...

- possibly buy a blue ray next year or even upgrade the drive on my PC to blue ray
- possibly get HD TV
- may get 360 Elite model if my (original from 2006!) Xbox dies

So currently I have a 28" CRT JVC TV. It can only get better from here. But I would like something thats reliable and give decent quality. I am not to discerning about getting the absolute detail on the TV. But also, if I notice blurring or issues with the TV - that would drive me up the wall.

Any buying advice is greatly recieved.

They still ripping off you Canucks? You can get the 46" 550 for that price in the States and it's a better fit and experience than 40" at 8'.

I'd shop for the 46" IMO the 550 Samsung is the best Value for those budgets with lower ceilings and still want WoW factor.

Also, HDGURU has listed on his website that the Sony 350BD MSRP will drop by $100 around 9/25 in the US and I would guess Canada may see a piece of that also as more BD competition is arriving for the Holidays but steer clear of the 300BD - it's retardedly slow and oversized. I'm waiting that price drop to jump on a second BD player to my HD players - if you can't go there give the new Toshiba XDE500 a whirl for <$149 at Amazon.

Budget your HD Sources since there is no reason to spend anything for these panels to display 480 Horse (Moose) Poohey Dungo Turdvision.

I thought I had it all worked out between these two sets. Now, since I plan to use it more for PC and XBox, I think I should go with a set that is 120hz. Since they are so pricey, I would have to drop down to a 37" for example.

So maybe a LG 37LG60 37" 120hz for 1399 CAD...

And I clicked on your link because I also wonder if I really need 1080p, wouldnt 720p be suitable....

ahhhhhhhhh

Choices choices choices, decisions decisions...
