When I tried it in Vista, there was no hdmi option.
Insufficient processor can cause stutter , so can drivers and settings.
You got more out of Asus support than me.
I don't think TMT shows up on Cyberadvisor.
And for me, Vista drivers didn't work.

Evulstuie82,

I cannot reproduce what you got. My amp shows up as the display device in the Nvidia control panel, not the Xonar. Under the "change the signal or hd format tab" I do not have 1080p24 listed. Bugger!

When the Onyko SHows up you got something wrong during installation of the xonar. I had this too. The Xonar will not work (properly) if the Onkyo is listed. Remove everytrhing and start again and do EXACTLY what the xonar setup tells you.

hmmm, that is strange....
are you using xp?
I've yet to try my settings on xp, but i do recall seeing my onkyo show up as the display, but at the moment my memory sucks so it might have just been before i installed the xonar.
I know in vista it should definately be showing the xonar, i'd assume the same for the xonar as its appears to have its own EDID or whatever it is to supply the video card with a model etc

I'm using XP. Thanks, remove drivers, disconnect from 605, actually remove/reinstall. Once setup, connect to 605? Did you use a specific sequence?

This is new info for me as tomorrow is RMA cause it only works in 192khz.

Also of note, Xonar driver includes GamerOSD and Spendid, I wondered why separate drivers for them, except the new Splendid.

Anyone know why when i select xonar hdav digital output as default in windows vista and test the dolby digital and dts it works fine, then when i go to play anything i just get static?
if i play a hd wmv i can hear traces of the sound but still snowed out by static?
I've got 24p working and now i want to get the sound all set up perfect....well as close to perfect as i can without asus getting off their lazy asses and making bitsreaming in vista.

I didnt actually do the install/build of this HTPC. I purchased a custom build through a computer store here in San Antonio. It's running Vista Home Premium 32bit. They also installed a high-end ASUS motherboard as well.

I set up the Xonar settings under its own control center to 8 channel and 7.1 speakers. The PCM I changed to each setting and tested it, with the same result.....stereo when a blu-ray is played.

Dont think I mentioned it before but Im running the DVI/HDMI cable from the ATI HD 4850 to the Xonar card, then out HDMI to the Denon AVR-3808ci reciver. I would have thought that the setup for this audio card wouldnt be this difficult. Plug it in, install the drivers/software, plug the HDMI cable in, hook it up and work!

Appreciate the help though. Hopefully from everyone's input I can pass this on to the tech and get it actually working correctly.

Thanks again

Did reinstall w/o receiver only display AcerP241w and Xonar never shows in Nvidia Panel.

All setup asks is to restart. Please clarify. Thanks

Was finally able to talk to someone from Asus that actually knew what was going on with my problem and the Xonar HDAV1.3 card.

As you folks might have already known, Asus does know that there is a problem with the Xonar card only playing back 2 channel audio when playing a Blu-ray movie. The tech support guy told me that at this time they have not heard anything back from their testing dept for a resolution. I think he mentioned something about them working with ATI, etc to come up with a driver fix, etc but it was kind of hard interpreting what he was saying.

He gave me several options that might work before they get the fix out that Im going to have to pass on to the lead tech guy at the store that is building my HTPC:

1. If you are using the DVI/HDMI cable to go from the video card to the Xonar, then out HDMI to a receiver, etc.....make sure that audio is being send to the Xonar card and NOT to the video card first. (the video card on my unit is the ATI HD 4850)

2. Uninstall the drivers for the both the video and Xonar card. Then update the motherboard chipset driver. Reinstall the video driver, then the xonar driver. DO NOT let windows install it, but rather download the latest drivers from the respected websites.

3. Dont use the DVI/HDMI cable. Try using one cable from the video card to your monitor/TV. And a seperate cable from the Xonard card to your audio component.

Of course I dont have the HTPC at the moment to try any of these options. At this point I dont know if any of them will work especially when they know there is an issue that they are trying to resolve. And with out that fix nothing will work until they come out with a new driver, etc.

Just wanted to pass this along. Thanks again

1080/24p running through the xonar!!!!!

I'm bowing before you great magician.

Please how you obtained these awesome results? What drivers for nvidia did you use? What did you mean by "fiddling". I'm fidling for some time now, but the highest results was 1080i/30Hz. I've got xonar displayed in monitors but no luck with 24Hz.

Thanks in advance.

I was trying to make it work on my ati 4870 card just now. I got as far as to be abel to select 24p with the force button in catalyst control center (added the 24p to force in ccc->DTV (DVI) 4->HDTV support->Add 1080p24 format to the display manager (HD).

When I tried forcing 1080/24 to my xonar(extended desktop) It tries searching for signals and ends up with no signal, even tried shutdown my computer to make a new hdmi handshake without luck. Forcing 1080/30 in CCC and I get a picture again.

This sounds dumb but have you tried unplugging and hot plugging in your hdmi connection to the HTPC?

Ive tried that as well without luck, I get 24p going from the ati card directly to my onkyo 606 and from there to a samsung 656.
Has anyone teste whether or not the 24p issue exists with the 780G/790GX IGP when connected to the Xonar?
Check the pdf list if I have it correct.

The PDF only lists the discrete video cards tested

Somewhere I saw minimum 8400 when I was looking up my 8200 IGP. Sorry

Then why don;t you just hok up the vid card directly to your tv and the sound card directly to your receiver.

I dont want to drag another 13m hdmi cable and drill another hole in the wall to do it, also Im not sure if that sollution works 100%.

Well I got my new HDAV Deluxe card yesterday. The daughter card had some bent pins but nothing was broken off(I still would consider a bent pin damaged). I straightened the pins and got everything including the 7.1 channel analog working.

I didn't have a chance to turn it up or calibrate it for analog audio but I still could tell that it was a decent analog card. It was atleast on par with my old Auzentech Prelude.

I was able to do one test with it though. I turned my receiver up to reference level(0 db on my receiver) and listened to the static from the speakers at about 1 inch from the speakers. There definitely was some static with analog but nothing you could hear from a sitting position. Then I tried the same thing with PCM audio instead. Then there was almost no static even at 1 inch.

The Asus Deluxe is a good analog card but I still think that for the true audiophile looking for "PERFECT" sound you will have to bitstream over HDMI. It may not sound any different from a sitting position but they are still slight differences there.

As soon as Asus delivers DD-True-HD bit streaming I will be very happy with this card. Come on Asus the wait is killing us!
So does that mean it puts out dts ma and dd true hd over the analogs?

DTS-MA yes. DD-True-HD no. The problem is that TMT can not decode DD properly at all right now. Hopefully the next release will fix that.

PDVD will output DD-True-HD at 48 Khz 16 bit properly over analogs with the Asus card though!

You may have to hold it for a little while because nothing here, not even a word about True HD streaming yet. God!!! they had those drivers, hadn't they? Sure, they had them once.
Oh yea, Since when does TMT not support HD-DVD? I can't get any HD-DVDs to play in TMT.

Right now I am not too impressed with TMT but I actually think the Asus card is a good product. My ideal scenario is that PDVD abandons Auzentech and decides to support the Asus card in their bit-streaming release. I would gladly pay an extra $100 if I had PDVD bit-streaming everything.

Actually; it's a bit of topic (like a lot of messages here ), but the regular (non-Asus) release of TMT AND WinDVD for that matter, do support HDDVD's. As PDVD dropped it as soon as the format wars were over. Hail PDVD for abandoning all of us early adopters with (also) a HDVD player.
