ASUS has posted a fix to the brightness issue! Previously I had nvidia set brightness to 30% and contrast to 12% as a temp workaround.
Well lately, I've noticed my display was getting really dark. The reason is ASUS must have installed the following fix automatically and the nvidia settings needed put back to normal!
ASUS Splendid for Xonar HDAV1.3 series
Bring Vibrant Visual Enjoyment:http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2&share=icon/137
Tips: Please make sure you've install the drivers below before you using ASUS Splendid:
1. ASUS Xonar audio card driver
2. ASUS GamerOSD
Release Note: Fix the overexposure problem.
File Size 2.92 (MBytes) 2008/10/31 update
My display looks great now with nvidia brightness at 50% and contrast at 50%. Note I still have splendid turned off as I always had, but this time I can say I am noticing little difference between video going through the hdav1.3 vs directly to the television. I actually have faith in ASUS now. Even though I liked the card initially, I was going to ebay the card over the video problems it was having.
The fix has also fixed a small problem with reds (although this could have been my funky nvidia settings).

So to answer your question, the brightness probalem and 24p playback is not an issue for those intending to use analogue output.
From what I have heard from those that have the Deluxe, it is an excellent
analogue card, despite the relatively modest performance claimed by Elitebastards.
I look forward to further reviews in the future with newer drivers.
