Does this card work well for a 2.1 stereo setup while also being able to play 5.1. I do not yet have a receiver with HDMI, so I will be relying on LR RCA for now.

I am using HDAV1.3 20% of the time for 2 channel stereo and 80% of the time to do BD and DVD bitstream different codec from TrueHD, DTS MA to DTS to my temporary pre-amp Onkyo 998 until my Theta HDMI1.3 upgrade available. HDAV1.3 delivers same as standalone players streams to my pre-amp. Hints, we can use this card to play the back up movies as you mentioned from our HTPC.

Now, to answer your question, if you don't have a HDMI pre-amp, you might want to consider the deluxe version; 6 analogs out to your non-HDMI/RCA pre-amp.

Check out below thread and they discuss the deluxe version of this card.

Are you just launching movies via explorer or somehow getting My Movies to integrate with the OEM TMT?

Its my understanding that the OEM TMT wont integrate with My Movies, which for me, is a dead end.. ie: i'll have to wait to get this card, until there is a solution...

I am playing all BD and DVD movies today by double clicking the ISO; VCD mounts the ISO and launch OEM TMT then play.

If I hit play in latest MM, TMT won't launch and error occurs.

If I choose PDVD8, it integrates and playback any BD perfect.

I noticed bitstream playback is MUCH louder than PCM 6-channel btw.

Thanks for that. I did notice they were set lower but i swear i read several times not to touch them and leave them where they are.
Anyways, I THINK its louder now, however its irrelevant because the onkyo receiver's display has died and now I can't see Sh!t.
Contacted retailer and said they'll have to send it off and I won't see it again till well after new years. absolute BS.
So i'll keep it as is till after new years and hope the workload of the repairers has died down.
I don't suppose there's anyway to get the OSD to work with hdmi?
I know when running the xbox360 through component it comes up then, but not with hdmi

As luck would have it, my HDAV showed up the exact same day I picked up my Denon 3808 reciever, and I have a day off tomorrow. I've gone ahead and downloaded all the updated drivers/TMT/firmware stuff, but I was wondering if I need to install the splendid driver at all?

Thanks.

btw, I'm assuming that I'll need to register this card in order to get the updated cards that supports 24P properly?

Yes, the original is way too bright and the latest one in Asus download will fix that.

You don't have to install the Splendid driver. The HDAV runs just smooth without it. I only installed the latest HDAV driver without any SPlendid crap and PQ is excellent and no brightness issues.

I installed ONLY the latest, same as the one in their download now, HDAV driver and TMT .125 and it was too bright for me. After that I can turn the Splendid on and off. I suppose the HDAV driver contains the Splendid there. I installed the latest Splendid it is on the download now and when I turn off and it is perfect now.

My 2 cents is istall both of them first without Splendid and if you find it too bright, install the Splendid and turn it off.

When I install only the latest HDAV driver there is no video tab. I can't even select Splendid cause it is simply not installed. Do you have a AMD/ATI graphics card?

Same here when I didn't install Splendid.

There is one issue bugging the crap out of me. If I turn off my TV and turn it back on it finds a new HDMI adapter every time and my display is reset to 1024*768. It only happens when the video signal goes through the Asus card. Anyone else having this problem??

Well, the Video tab is to control Splendid, so if you don't install it there's no tab, see? It only displays if you install Splendid.
what display do you have?
and what video card/drivers

In case someone is thinking of installing Media Portal for the eye candy - don't. It was a week of codec hell. There is something to be said about simplicity.

IMO:

1) Asus Drivers
2) If the windows desktop (non D3D screens) doesn't bother you don't install splendid.
3) TMT
4) Haali
5) MPC-HC

No ac3filter, no media portal, no registering of codecs, no codec packs. Nothing. The above should be all we need to play xvid/divx/MKV/WMV/AVI and ofcourse blu-ray. HD-dvd - even if it's brought back or you still use pdvd 7.3, eventually - sooner or later they'll stop supporting it. I know it sucks just get the blu-ray disc.

ymarker,

I went through THAT codec crap months ago with just TMT retail. I have my htpc running on the KISS principal. It's beautiful.

PS: Not even your last two!

Hey fellas, sorry for asking but this is a long thread and things weren't so good in the beginning. I'm wondering if Asus has ironed out all of the issues and if it's ok to get this card now. Basically, I just want it for bitstream audio in the hi-def formats when I play back my Blu rays ripped to my hard drive.

That's why I start this thread. Long story short and if you don't have x64 and don't need 24P, then yes. I use my HTPC just like you and play all the BD and DVD and I can bit stream all I want now.

Thanks for the info regarding LPCM. To me, it is a big step from all codec to Windows mixer before sending it to my pre-amp compare to bit stream all except LPCM.

Rew, Emig5m and Davinleeds,

I am using Foorbar2000 to play 48KHz CD files and guess what since I am using direct pass thru in Forrbar2000 and it is streaming untouch PCM 48KHz signal to my pre-amp. I can't lower/raise the volume or testing the sound when I play the music file. With that say, Asus/TMT LPCM shouldn't be the same when playing the LPCM? But it is not!

That's interesting about Foobar. I posted @ ASUS piggybacking on Dias' post and Mod says it untouched, but I am still skeptical. Will look up FB2000. Thanks

Not sure about x64 but some one post that when he emailed Asus support and Asus support told him that 24p will be available mid-Jan.

If you have foobar, please try wasapi plugin and you will agree with me.

If it is untouch, why they can't make it not go thru Window Mixer just like all others formats?

Which part?

It just confused me.
So foobar plays bitperfect and you can't alter the volume, and asus TMT lets you?
or both do the same thing.

that was what got me, but it has been a long work day so it must just be me.

So does the OEM TMT that comes with the Xonar 1.3 not work with MyMovies2? That would be a deal breaker for me....

Let me give you a bit back ground.

All the bitstream is working so far and the only question mark is LPCM.

With that in mind, Asus support claims that they don't touch it at all when sending LPCM.

All I am trying to say was using Foorbar2000 as an example and when I send LPCM to my preamp, Window Mixer untouch the stream - that's.

Yes, it is not working now. But I trust that Brian will fix it just a matter of time.
