Eric

Not sure I fully buy that... from the ASUS support forum and the ASUS rep there, Asus is working on getting the VMC working, I believe in the original versions of the OEM TMT it was working, but was broken in an updated release?

The card works fine under VMC because it is working fine under the Vista OS. Keep in mind the retail release doesn't support bitstreaming of HD audio but does integrate quite nicely with VMC.

Well for me the Card is basically usless untill they fix the Arcsoft issue you guys are talking about, I just want full rate lossless while using TMT and Blueray, I use TMT within VMC.

Allso once again thanks guys your very helpfull.

EDIT ------

I just realised you guys were talking about HDDVD and not Blueray, pleas ignore what I just said above..

Thanks so much for the offer and your communication with ASUS. I have two requests:
1. Make it work correctly on a system with two monitors connected. I need to use two monitors, as I work in an auditorium setting, where I need to be configuring things on Monitor 1 while output is going to Monitor 2 (and is duplicated to the auditorium).
2. Allow the possibility that the internal headphone connector always outputs a stereo remix, regardless if the card is outputting analog or HDMI, bitstreaming, etc.

Thanks.

AFAIK, HDAV has no problem with Dual outputs, that's what I'm using now.
But I do know:
1. 2nd montor may not be able to output HDCP protected video
2. Some VGA has trouble outputing to LCDTV, because of costdown or some reason, they just don't have complete EDID table for LCDTV (monitor EDID table is simpler than that of LCD TV), causing LCDTV+Monitor configration to display issues...

I think the Auto detect of 48/96/192 Khz is a needed enhancement. It is just too annoying to try to figure out what the correct value should be.

Toe Tag and lilohtpc,

Thanks for your replies. I have not yet bought the HDAV card, but saw these limitations here discussed, and am somewhat weary to purchase the card until I'm pretty sure I can figure out a way to get around them.

In my case, it would be important, although not absolutely necessary (there's always AnyDVD after all) that the 2nd monitor out would support HDCP. I would always want to use the 2nd monitor out for watching films, never the first (although if need be maybe I could reverse them...), and of course it would be a DVI out, running into the HDAV, from there to the Onkyo 876 receiver, and from there to projector / pre-outs to amps. All my equipment is HDCP compatible.

I've seen just a couple of recent posts about some difficulties outputting through a 2nd monitor - maybe if a few more people could post their experience we can get a better idea if this is really a problem or was just a fluke a few unlucky experienced.

I'm still waiting ont he non-deluxe version because my receiver does HD codec decoding..

Hopefully ZZF will have some in soon (they went out of stock just recently)

Provantage has a non-deluxe card for $180. They ship fast and very reliable.
http://www.provantage.com/asus-xonar...3~7ASU90KU.htm

I got one and installed with vista 32 and it is bitstraming all lossless audio codecs from anydvd hd ripped blu ray movies to my processor with no problems.

Most people are looking for the new cards with 24P capability. That is why they are/will order from vendors that were recently out of stock and have re-stocked with the new version.

What is the serial number on your card?
After three days i have finished reading this thread after i purchased this card from new egg. Still have 10 days on 30 day return. my serial number is an 8 I do want the 24 p card. This card really does sound better than anything I have output to my Genelec's from the computer. Would keep it even with the 24p issue.

all my itunes music, video and itunes HD looks great threw this card. I can use the component outputs on my Radon 2900 out to a HDTV and it to works in itunes

itunes plays out threw the Component out of the video card and the blue ray DVD player will not. Is is this a DRM thing or some other copy protection?
I understand HDMI digital and Component Analog But itunes works either way. This makes an advantage in buying itunes movies.

Please excuse my ignorance - do you need a separate graphics card with the HDAV 1.3?

Yep. Graphics card > HDAV 1.3 > AVR > Display device

Depends what you mean by *separate* - it *doesn't* have to be a discrete (i.e., what I would call a separate card) graphics card, integrated graphics are fine (so long as they have the power to decode what you want, eg BD).

That is like saying your car works to take you to the store because you can turn it on, but that it cannot go anywhere since it is missing wheels.

Without the needed wheels, the car does not travel on the roads, therefor the car does not work in taking you to the store
Without the needed add-in, the HDAV does not work with VMC.

That's a really bad analogy. I am with Chillspace on this, the card does work under VMC and vista, the arcsoft version that comes with the card does not integrate with VMC.

It would be like buying a new car and getting a free sat nav unit, then finding out the sat nav unit can't download maps of a certain area.

Keep in mind this product is a sound card. If it also had the capabilities of a video card, that card's profile would be HUGE and quite difficult to cool, probably also too complex really. What it does do is essentially augment the HDMI out signal by combining it's own audio source along with an HDMI video input.

Also I'm pretty certain you don't need to have a video card with an HDMI out. You just need an HDCP capable video card. I think the HDAV includes a short DVI-HDMI adapter dongle if you need it.

On the other hand: I find that while the ATI Catalyst 9.1 driver is better at restoring the video output if the TV/receiver was off prior issue, it still has a hiccup now and then. Every once in a while when I find the HTPC on while the receiver/TV is off, the picture won't come back until a restart of the HTPC. Does the HDAV have the same issue? Do I need to buy the DVI detective plus, still? Or does the HDAV essentially resolve this problem?

No a better analogy would be: The dealer 2 blocks away gave you tires rated for 40 mph, but you can't drive it on the interstates for your daily work commute.

Actually, you wouldn't need to have a videocard that has the power of an NVidia 295 or something and play games at the highest of resolutions. It simply needs to output accelerated 1080p. I wouldn't be surprised if ASUS (after perfecting the HDAV) would come out with an integrated card and corner the market. It also wouldn't surprise me if they even decided to license the tech out to combine bitstreaming solutions for IGPs on motherboards. You never know.

I have an old X800 lying around - here comes the part that looses me - how does the graphics card get the picture to the sound card to output?

Ok, another problem here's that a lot of new participants in the discussion here don't read relevant earlier posts.
The HDAV needs a HDMI video input, period!

I took a screenshot.

On the top of the image it's ok, but on bottom there is a problem, the white are burned.
Note, the differences in luminosity changes position each time.

I must change de video out (HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, ...) several times on my amplifier Pioneer SC-LX71 to have a correct image, but it was similar with my old amplifier Onkyo 905.

Driver: 5.12.8.17.58
Soft: Arcsoft Total Media Theater (ASUS)V2.1.13.126
Splendid: 3.0.2.6
OS: WINDOWS XP SP3

It would be said that the white are burned ?

Thanks

Um...this thread is 156 pages long? ? ?

If you'd like to link to earlier 'relevant' posts - that'd be great.

It works under Vista, but not VMC.

VMC is an application. It does not work within that application. It does work on the underlying operating system, though.

Yeah, that would work better. You bought a car expecting it to work on the highway (since they said it would), then find out it does not...it only works on local roads.

You cannot a DVI to HDMI cable from the output of the vid card to the input of the HDAV.

Uh, I'm pretty sure you can. The sound card even has the DVI-HDMI dongle! The bigger question would be if the X800 has HDCP, which I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Then it's a matter of whether or not your CPU is fast enough to decode the video codecs.
