In my case this results in a picture that looks less than ideal. If i have a priogram that I want to display in the best manner I have to go into both the TIVO, and 9.9 and the panel or projector to set up this. In most cases I just tolerate the poor display rather than take the time to change the settings each time. Unfortunately I have found that the HDMI blinks off then on then off several times when the TIVO or the 9.9 changes the resolution. There may be something wrong with your unit but there should be a combination that results in a stable picture.
What firmware? I did extensive testing on 1.01, 1.04, and 1.05 and found the 1.04 most stable. Also reading on platform sibling groups for the PR-SC886P, TX-NR876, and TX-NR906 and on the "Onkyo/Integra Direct Firmware Updates" groups i found that several users recommend the 1.04 as the most stable across platforms.
Major issues like blinking, blue screens, "Unrecognized Resolution" with 480i to HDMI upconverts with 1.05 on both my TX-NR906 (Wii) and DHC-9.9 (Escient), gone with 1.04.
FYI i run my DHC-9.9 on Onkyo PR-SC886P firmware without a glitch, as 1.04 for the 9.9 has been deleted from Gurkey's link.
Hope this helps.
