4 columns of horizontal columns on 50" Samsung HL-RXX67W

I searched and could find nothing on this. This is a 3 year old tv. I calibrated it when I first purchased it but have done nothing else since and have had no problems. To elaorate, the 4 columns of vertical lines are redish and the picture behind them seems ok. Oddly enough, the lines are not present when a DVD is playing. My carrier is Directv if it matters. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Can you take a picture of these problems by any chance? Does it only happen with D* and is it specific channels or all channels? If you tried multiple components and it only happens with D* try to switch the components around that are connected to your TV to see if maybe on the switches have gone bad, if D* has the same problem connected to the DVD player input it might be a problem with either the D* box or the satellite.

That's great info thanks. I can't take a picture unfortunately, our digital camera is broken. I will try your recommendations and post the results.
Thanks!

So the lines are not present in DVD mode and switching the component inputs does not change the presence of the lines. They are also present on all channels. The lines are not present on our other HDTV upstairs so this makes me think that the satellite box is the culprit?

Ya that seems to make sense. If plugging the D* box into the same input as the dvd player which works fine and you get the same problem yet the TV upstairs works fine with D* it sounds like the box may be bad. I don't know if you are able to try it, but try to unplug it and take it upstairs to your other TV and switch boxes if you can, just to see if it duplicates the problem, because I'm sure D* will ask you that if you call them. Don't know if it would help, but if you open the little flap on the front of the box, you can push a little yellow button that says reset and it may fix it. Takes my box about 5 minutes to startup after I push it, but I have had to do it in the past for various problems.

I did try switching boxes and that did not change the situation. I then changed out the component cable which was connecting the D receiver to the tv and BOOM - problem solved! The cable was only 4 years old but it is one of the 9 dollar cheapos. Thanks for all your help!
