Mine still runs like a rock. Super sharp detail, on second lamp now, i keep wanting to replace it but don't
have the heart. It is really an awesome machine.
Check out what this guy wrote on WhatHiFi in Feb 2012:

Hi all, just wanted to instill some optimism into the thread so here is my rant and results of extensive research. I am no pro, so bear with me.
First, this is February 2012, from UK's own at WhatHiFi, remarkable to see
something like this on a 2008 model:

You may have seen my unit for sale just earlier on the Classies, but i changed my mind and got a second OEM spare bulb instead, ater a week of frantic research and trips to showrooms, below is my experience in a nutshell.
Yes, the HC9000D is nice, but i find it hard to see any improvement apart from brightness for my batcave. The VPL-VW95ES is also very sweet, deeper blacks with good DI, but not as sharp as the 7000. Epson 6200 and Panny 8000 are clearly cheapo whirly (30 db, not above my seating position) and a PITA (pain U know where) to focus and adjust, how on God's Earth is one supposed to focus the pixels looking 2" from the screen and roll the lens(or play with joystick) at the same time? The cornucopia of models from JVC don't phase me either, tons of dead pixel posts and covergence issues.
Lastly, Mitsubishi Presentations Canada had two HT projector repairs in the year 2011 (per AVS member technician) alone, i just received an email from the guy i sold the HC5000 to years ago looking for an OEM bulb, yes it still works.
We are one lucky bunch, HC7000 for me until 4k2k PJs and material become ubiquitous unless someone sells a 4 digit priced VPL-VW1000ES:)
