Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Early review - Page 2

Saw it last night and had to pump up the fine detail on the VP50+. This feature had a video look compared to a film look (JVC RS1/VP50+/120" Higain).

Personally, I didn't care for the movie. Liked 40 year old way better. There weren't too many funny scenes. Was a little disappointed, cause the buzz when this came out was very high.

Speaking of 40year old. Can anyone watch this movie now without thinking about the F**K who stabbed his girlfriend 20 times?....

Definite buy imo, awesome movie, especially if you have a girl to watch it with.

The PQ is soft, but that's not what got me; it's the lack of vibrance and brightness. I had to amp up my TV's brightness, and then, contrast increase was needed because the picture was a bit flat. A cooler color temperature and/or hue adjustment was needed as well as there is a slight, ugly warm color cast. I swear, the BD has got me changing the settings, I don't even know if it's worth watching.

I rented it and watched it last night. I thought the PQ was pretty bad - I agree with Dave Vaughn - 6/10 is all it deserves. The movie itself would be a LOT better without all the male nudity - I will not be buying this one

No offense, but anyone who thought this looked even acceptable probably isn't a very judge of vid quality. This disc is dreadful on pretty much all accounts. One of the worst I've seen on either format, especially for a new film. Shame too because the extras are plentiful and good, as is the film itself.

I'm glad I bought it used, that's all I'm saying. I like the movie, but jeez...

watched this last night with no knowledge of the transfer being considered terrible. i remember thinking that the transfer wasn't anything special while I was watching, but I didn't notice any macroblocking or anything. If you aren't looking for issues, they aren't that apparent.
Hilarious movie, but yeah, what's up with the 3 plus shots of trouser snake? seemed a bit out of place.

Its the best we have, sucks, I know, found myself tweaking the settings while watching, but eh, this is it until a better version shows, and it is a great movie, easily one of his 3 best efforts IMO (40yr old, Suprebad, FSM...I may be in the minority, but I much prefered FSM over Knocked UP, I never LOL once during that one, twas cute to watch with the woman, but heh).

Couldn't agree more about the johnson shots, they sure weren't needed, didn't enhance the jokes anyway, unless they were trying to make the viewer feel as awkward as the guy was, dunno, but thankfully, there was only one or two, and they were like nano seconds.

I've been driving my girl nuts with this btw - it took all of 5 minutes to learn the piano piece, lol, been sitting in my recording room at the keys playing the "Dracula Opera", voice and all, doubt she'll ever wanna watch this flick w/me again, hehehe.

By these caps, posted at review site, I would be led to believe it was OKgood looking with no DNR:

That site thinks they are cool because they use promotional photos for "screenshots"

LOL. You've got to put that on YouTube.

Its not that bad, there is some EE and if you watch the Gag reel you can see they colour timed it to look warmer, thats where the DNR look comes from.
Also my PAL disc updated and downloaded something, not sure what tho

LMAO - I could, I have an account and a vid up already, working on some others, just might do that!

It's also run by an incredibly unprofessional creep.

I picked up this disc from BB on release day. I liked 40 y/o and thought this would have some good laughs.

PQ was ok but nothing special. The Hawaii shots were vivid and showed off the islands nicely. Flesh tones seemed accurate, no particular color push evident. There are enough skin tone variations in the various characters to give you a good point of reference.

I thought the movie itself was average at best. Few funny lines, but mostly an attempt to make a romantic comedy substuting sex for the romance. Seemed like when the writers ran out of plot lines they threw in some sex, nudity, or abundant "F" bombs.

At best I'd recommend this as a rental, unless you are some super fan of the film maker. Nothing that I saw would indicate that this film has any rewatch potential.

I'm not a fan of the producer at all, and I believe it has much rewatch potential.

I agree, I am an Apatow fan but this movie is hilarious.

Worst BluRay transfer I have seen yet. My god, it's really awful.

It literally strained my eyes. It was so soft and so dim that I thought I needed glasses. I seriously came cloase to checking the disc to make sure I did not get a standard DVD on accident. Funny thing is, that probably looks better.
I have to say I liked the movie but hated the Blu-ray disc... It was blurry! I actually thought my PJ was out of focus... Do they not have any quality control over there? I can seriously say it is either my worst looking title or damn close to it... It is so bad I want my money back...
The PQ is pretty disappointing...It looked drab and soft in the theatres though, so even though the Universal **** transfer doesn't help, the source sucked to begin with... I'd definitely not use the DP of this thing if I was ever making a movie... it's sad when the video on the video commentary IS BETTER than the actual film...seriously.
I had company over and their reaction was scary. They said Blu-ray looks barely better than DVD... I showed them a few great looking titles afterwards and restored their faith!
It was blurry!
Watched it last night and thought it had decent PQ. You pop it in and you see right away it's a clear high-def. transfer with strong, vibrant colors. Not the sharpest, but about average for what's out there right now.

If anyone likes this movie, the transfer is good enough to buy it.

Lots of eye-rolling drama on this thread. "worst transfer ever..." Give me a break.

Agreed, Jay.

It's a decent movie, I will give you that. If it doesn't look really bad then your display has to be questioned...
Anyone else like the simplistic menu with the seamless repeat?
You need new eyes, or a truly calibrated display if you think this looks passable. One of the worst.

It was hard going from IRONMAN to Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
