I got my Aperion 4Bs and to be honest, I'm a bit unhappy with them..they don't sound full at all...

I'm thinking of getting different speakers, I would get towers but can't put speakers on the side of my tv because of my door...

With about a $500 budget as far as 2 speakers or 2 speakers + sub..what would you recommend?

Here is a pic of my layout.

From the picture, maybe you need some type of wall treatment to absorb sound. I don't know what is behind the camera but if it's the same as what's in view, you might have an acoustic problem. Try to hang something on the walls that will not reflect sound. Also the same goes for the floor. Bare walls and floors are a no-no, and don't overlook the windows, curtains on those. Next time you go to a movie theater look at their walls and floors, lots of sound absorbing materials.
Speaker placement is another factor. try moving the cabinet that holds the electronics out from the wall and placing the speakers closer to the wall. But keep the speakers about 8 to 12 inches from the wall if possible. I see the room is small but do what you can. Have you tried adjusting the bass and treble in the receiver, that might help. I see in the picture that you do not have a center speaker and that you are relying on the 4B completely, the 4B is a good speaker, but I think it's primarily a satellite speaker. Therefore it might not give you the performance you want. You might want to consider the 5B. Sorry thats another $95 each. Or maybe even getting the 4C to go along with the 4B's, thats $160.
There is an Aperion thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=772081 Lots of help there also.

Well my problem is that it's a bedroom, so I can't move things around..but I'm sitting about 3 Ft from the speakers and it just doesn't sound right..

How are the Usher S-520s? I might just get those, I hear amazing things.

What the room is dosn't matter, it the acoustics. Bare floors, bare walls, exposed windows. Treat the problems or no matter what speaker you go with you'll have the same problems.

How many hours do you have on them? I know when I had a pair of their 633 towers, they sounded MUCH better after 40 hours. And, no.. I didn't just get 'used to them'.. I wasn't even in the room when I was letting them break in.

This, from Aperion's site:

"Speakers sound better after they've been played a while. Usually 50 - 100 hours. You can play them at any volume level you want during break in; the speakers won't blow up. During this process, the voice coil becomes acclimated to moving quickly. Also, the rubber surround material gets worked-in so it becomes more sensitive and responsive. You'll notice better bass response and smoother mids and highs after break in."

Actually there's only bare wall about 18" in front of the speaker then carpeting...

Maybe I'd look into a different sub, the Dayton I have is just way too big..I'll look around for a $150 sub to help out a bit.

Yea, I played them while I was at work all day today, I'll do the same tomorrow and the next day and see how it sounds.
