Wall mounted my LN46A650 w/ Pics!

I got sick of seeing my Samsung LN46A650 on the stand so I bought a wall mount from Costco for $99. Here's the outcome:

Mount:

Here you can see the hole we cut to drop the cables down through!

Here's how it sits on the wall, hard to tell but it is VERY sturdy. Also note that the bar that locks the TV onto the wall has a spot to add on a PADLOCK or Key Lock so that noone can steal the TV. VERY NICE feature.

With the stand back in. May be time for a smaller stand and removal of the DVD racks.

What do you guys think? Not bad for a $100 wall mount I say.

Nice picture on that Sammy! I did notice some reflection from the windows behind you so a tilt model could have been an improvement, but you can't beat what you accomplished at that price!

Is that your thermostat right above the TV? Don't be surprised if your rooms get cold, the heat coming up from the tv will fool the thermostat into thinking your house is warmer than it really is.

Very nice job man, thats a clean setup

Looks like that mount can hold a 52" and the 46" could go in the bedroom.

The mount actually comes w/ the Tilt (+/-) 15 deg but it then sits another couple inches off the wall, and I like how flush it sits w/o the tilt part.

That is my thermostat HAHA. We thought the same thing, and the Thermostat does read a bit hotter above the TV, but in this Apartment there is really no other place to put the TV. If it gets cold in the winter we just turn it up high and turn it back down when it's warm enough.

Really lamonsasa, the following are quotes from you:

"i dont understand ,what could POSSIBLY make the picture BETTER on the 580 than the 550? the ultra clear panel? whats so special about it? 5,000 contrast ration wouldnt make much difference IMO"

"dudes, theres not much a difference between the a550 and the a540 PQ wise LOL so stop with the BS info please FFS. i seen both tvs and i own an A550 , amazing TV, NOT much a difference between the 2 lol, Ultra clear display? give me a break lol, in a year they'll come with a double ultra clear display (just with a different name of course ) , its a marketing thing ppl, relize it, u buy a new TV, next month a "BETTER" TV comes out lmao. come on.. again, not much difference PQ wise."

"get the Samsung LN46A550, it will be perfect for you, u probably dont need the A650 if u ask me LOL. and u comparing JVC with Samsung? dude.. come on. lol"

"just that the 650 has 120hz which ppl say is buggy and totaly not needed, a550 is unbeliveable man, no reason why u would buy an a650 over the a550 lol, unless u have money to burn then go ahead lol but if u want the same tv without the unneeded and buggy 120hz then get the a550, i have the 46 incher, its freaking awesome! top tv on the market right now in the price range for sure, aton of ppl buy it aswell, try to get the best deal possible awell u cant go wrong there mate. btw 40' was way too small for me, so i returned it and got my 46 incher instead, cant love it more, 52 would have been even BETTER but dont have the $$$$ to stash on a TV if u kno what i mean"

"u seem to ignore previous posts made by a knowledgeable member such as thebegining, 550 has a better ON SCREEN contrast ratio which is more important than Dyanmic CR. i regret buying my a550? NOT 1 bit rofl i paid an awesome price for this awesome tv and it blows anything u can give me for the price i paid BY FAR......... , talkin about buyer's remorse lol, im too smart to buy a "Ultra Clear Screen A550" by adding nearly 500$ for no reason, id go for the 650 instead and 540 superior? superior with WHAT exactly? what are you talking about eh? lol ill leave this discussion to thebegining if he even wants to keep on explaining becuase u obviously dont like listening to what more knowledgeable people tell u so why bother? lol."

"i have the A550, awesome TV man. i dont think i could get a BETTER tv in the price i got it for. i have the 46 incher, 52 is a bit expensive so ya.."

"ah yea man , SD looks like **** lol. theres no question about that and its like that on ANY HDTV!. i dont care what processor it has or whatever lol. but ya, this set is freakin amazing, i have the 46 incher myself, how big is ur A550, swizz?"

"120hz = TOTAL GIMMICK lmao nice way to waste your money , go for the LN40A550, best 60Hz on the market without any little gimmicks"

"Samsung LN46A550 best 60HZ TV on the Market, Period!"

"i wouldnt get the a650 lol, check the a650 thread, so many ppl are returning their sets because they dont like this and they dont like that.. oh well. but the a550 is the top of the line 60hz LCD HDTV at this moment with a very nice price tag, get the 46 incher and ur gooood"

By the way, great pics!!!!

nice and clean....but you should really put your center speaker on the top shelf of your stand.
Nice job- what did you do with the power cord? Looks like you installed a receptacle behind the tv- any surge protection?

There is actually a closet behind that wall, but I just cut a 1"x1" hole behind the TV and then another behind the receiver, dropped the wires down in the wall (in the 6" or so of empty space between the outside and inside drywall of the closet) and pulled it out the bottom. There are no electronics inside the wall or closet, I pulled the power cord out as well and plugged it in to a surge protector located behind the receiver. Nothing too fancy since I am renting haha.

Code violation. The power cord is not rated for in-wall use, and could heat up in the wall space and set the house on fire. It's about a 20 minute job to just install a receptical where your 1x1 cut is, drop Romex down the wall, and piggyback it to the other receptical.

Other than that, awesome job.

Maybe you should post your pics. in the "Wall Mount Thread".
The first thing I noticed was the thermostat, you will have trouble maintaining a constant temp. Other than that it looks great. I bought the same wall mount.
ejmcgir- can you tell me the dimensions of the wallplate on that mount- wondering how wide it is.

i checked costco site but as usual no details. thks.

Although it is a code violation, there is no greater chance of the wire heating up in the wall, anymore then it would heat up outside the wall. For the power cable on that tv to heat up to the point of fire, it would require an amperage that would have tripped the homes breaker, and additionally the surge protectors breaker long before the heat became an issue.

You should do it right, but lets not make things up.

If by freak chance the power cord did somehow catch fire (equivlent to the chance of you walking under a tree and a branch falling off it and killing you) it would have the same chance of burning the house down on the outside of the wall, wouldnt it?

The main thing here is that the cord simply is not to code, and could help spread fire, but lets be serious, if the wall is already burning down, what's the difference.

I'm not saying dont run a branched outlet, because that is the correct, safest way to do it. I am just saying you should'nt loose sleep over it. If you do, you need your head checked.

I don't get it. You have the cabinet right there anyway, so why not just use the tv stand and put it on top? It'd save you $100 and a bunch of holes in your wall.

I'm still waiting for Lamonsasa's reply. LOL
