I have a Marantz Sr6200 AV receiver that drives a set of Phase Tech speakers and Polk Audio DSW Pro 500 sub for my HT setup

Everyhing was working fine till a few days ago when suddenly, a weird problem cropped up out of the blue

The receiver works perfect in source direct analog input mode
Disabling s-direct or switching to digital however causes the front right channel to lose sound

The center sub and surrounds work fine both in digital in as well as direct analog 7 channel in

I don't mind living with s-direct alone but I can't use s-direct for digital in (toslink) which is how my htpc is hooked to the avr

So far, I was using a TOSLINK output from a M-Audio Transit sound card but since this problem surfaced, I am forced to use the computer's onboard Realtek ALC883 analog outs to the 6 analog inputs on the receiver

After the switch to analog mode, 2 channel audio still sounds almost as good as before ( AT least I can't spot a difference) but 5.1 movie sound has gone down the drain

Now I have two options,

a) Either get the Receiver repaired (if it can be) and switch back to digital
b) Get a good quality 5.1 sound card and switch completely to analog

I'd prefer option B since it takes away the headache of repairs
i am not sure though if the quality of a good sound card (like a Xonar DX) will match the SQ of the digital optical input on the Marantz

any pointers?
