That is what happens when you do a factory reset.
You need to re-run the Audyssey setup.

Well the pic seems to be fine as it was in the past, however I can still get breakfast started while waiting for a video image to appear on the monitor. It is taking way to long for an image to appear. It did not take near as long when I first got the 876 and put it into service. All my equipment is the same and configuration has not changed from the original setup. So has anyone had just caps replaced and still had a problem with the length of time for an image to appear? Did you then have to send the repair back to have the whole HDMI board replaced, and did that fix the problem? I am really disappointed at the fact that I have a sub $2k AVR and it takes forever to get a image on my monitor when my friend has a $400 Yami that produces a pic in 4-5 seconds. All my HDMI cables are good quality and under 6 feet. I have no odd or unusual equipment or hook ups as everything is HDMI from source to monitor. So does anyone have a time to image problem with their 876 after one of the repairs listed above? Thanks for your input.

So I have the option of getting my silver 876 repaired or accepting a NR1009, after an original offer of a NR809. My question is, is the 1009's amp section going to be on par with the 876? I have looked at the comparison specs on Onkyos website and have some concerns about this offer. I have been told, by the Onkyo tech that this is the best equivalent to the 876 and was told of all of the great new features. 8/2 HDMI vs. 4/2, networking capabilities, Newer & better video processor (not sure on that one), blah blah, blah. I have a relatively healthy system and like to music and movies at pretty appreciable levels. So I am concerned about the 1009 "keeping up" with the 876 in terms of clean sound at higher levels. Part of me says take the money and run, the other says try to get them to come up to the 3009 which according to specs seems much more on par with the 876 in terms of amplification. Also, a kicker for me is this will be a new unit but will carry NO WARRANTY. HUH, REALLY... All because the 876 is now out of warranty, but wasn't at the time of the first repair attempt at ABL. Thank you for any and all input. If by chance you have an 1009 I would be interested in your comments as well. Thank you.

Least you got an offer. Count yourself lucky as the rest of us have very heavy and expensive paperweights.

I would've been more than happy with any of those options.

Many thanks

Mine still have the original firmware, I have the DTS bomb problem with the star wars movies. Any idea where can I find the firmware?
I understand the the DTS bomb issue resolved in DSP file, so should I just update that file or the main Firmware too?

EDIT: I updated to yhe latest DSP but still the dts bomb exsist in Star Wars Episode 4 when skipping to chapter 16 hop for a fix soon

This problem reappeared with some movie releases.
Onkyo (and others) are researching this right now.

Thanks, hope it will be DSP fix and not whole firmware.

I have a question please. I have the 876 for abt 2 years now and I enjoy every minute of having it however I hate the HDMI switch back and forth at the beginning of the disk.

First, I always turn on my TV then the Bluray player then the 876. All the lights are on and the HDMI light is on. There is a handshake of the Bluray player and the 876 and the TV.

Then when the player load the disk, the HDMI light on the 876 start to switch in and out few times. The Tv screen shows " no video signal" until the picture appears on the TV then the HDMI light on the 876 locks into DTS-HD Master.

Is there a way to avoid these HDMI switch back and forth and the "no video signal" on the TV screen while the bluray player loading the disk ?

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried a different startup sequence. Try display, Onkyo 876 and then the source. If you have a Harmony remote it's easy to set up like this. Add about a one second delay on to each device.

I did. The same " no video signal" while the player is loading the disk and the 876 HDMI is searching for a hand shake. It only happens for a few seconds at the beginning when the bluray loading the disk. Does yours do that, Phantom52?

Hi all, been a while since I posted... Just wanted to say I am another 875 owner whose HDMI crapped out. First, it was the display, which got fixed from the wonderful info from this website, which a good friend of mine did for me. Now, this HDMI failure, bought this 11/2007, guess I should be happy it lasted this long. Loved this receiver, however with the problems that have cropped up, I will be sending a *NASTY* gram to Onkyo support. $1260 I paid, what a crock. Should have stayed with Yamaha, I work on big jets and if I did my job the way Onkyo does their's what do you think they'd feel like. So pissed right now, I can't see straight, plus I had to listen to the family complaining! NO MORE ONKYO FOR ME!!!

Mine has never done any of this switching you are describing. Mine was very picky about the start-up sequence. However as mine "aged" it was slowing down on starting properly with the HDMI connections. It still works but I got tired of waiting on it and replaced it with the Yamaha A3000. It works as it should with every source and does it very quickly. Have you tried changing out the HDMI cable for that connection with one of your others that is working properly? If not, try that and see if the problem is still there. I have had HDMI cables that didn't work or have gone out. Pathetic connection type if you ask me.

I have a 905 and a 906 which does this as well... It always does it when the video switches between SD and HD on a blu-ray disk.... The problem does not occur when playing back DVDs or when a blu-Ray is all mastered in HD...

Thank you. Good to know. The 876 is solid piece and I enjoy it tremendously from Movies to HD radio. I have not pay attention much to the " no video input"
when the Bluray Player start to loads and switches from one format to another until lately.

Other than that, the 876 is a good piece.

Just got a call from Onkyo, they are now denying there is a DTS HD Master bomb problem with the 906 and that my update of the DSP probably damaged the unit. I had gotten the DSP update from my dealer who gotten it from Onkyo and flashed the unit. Onkyo also sent me the update by mail, but since I used the dealer copy, they claim that the copy I used was invalid. To them, unless I bring the unit in for repair, the case is now considered closed.

Typical response from their customer service. To them they have never made a thing that was any fault of theirs. Look how long it took them to realize that the X08/X008's was their problem. There are others from other parts of the globe that are even being denied service on the X08/X008's. I'm beginning to think that I've purchased my last Onkyo product. Pathetic.

call them and complain... I don't know if it will do much but if enough calls are made, maybe they will then realize there is a problem and then work on it... Onkyo support is 1-800-229-1687 ext 2639... ignore the recordings...

Could someone tell me the latest FW version for this unit, some say 1.04 and some say 1.05, which is it? Is there any difference in the two? Thank you.

1.05. And there is no noticeable difference from the two. Tried 'em both and didn't notice a difference. There used to be something on pg. 1 about this also. I believe there is a link there that explains the difference.

Thank you for that info. I have read page 1 but did not see the link you referred to in your reply. I will go back and see if I can find it. Thanks a lot. Have a pleasant evening.

Main 87....1.04 / 08Z22A 876_Z22A.mot (Gamma-bug fixed + discrete remote codes for Audyssey and ISF-selections)
Main 87....1.05 / 09116A DHC99_116a.mot (no known difference from 1.04)

From pg.1 . It seems that 1.04 is really all you need. Hope you are able to find the version you want.

Thanks phantom52, sounds like 1.04 is good enough. Really appreciate the help.

I had my 876 on pass through and just let the Oppo do its thing for DVD's. Never used my 876 for any video processing though so it may be okay. Picture on my display is good enough without adding something else into the mix. The less processing going on the better.
