Hi Jon S,

Thanks! I'm in the Philippines and one of the more popular official Onkyo service centers does not even know there is a remedy or thread on this!

I first brought this to them last year and they were charging 43,000 pesos ($1000) plus labor to replace the HDMI assembly! I said no way since that was almost half of the newer units and I can still use the unit -except for the HDMI. It would have taken them more than a month as parts had to come from Japan!

I brought the thread today to show them the solution and they seem to be open to doing it -without even looking at the info. They are just interested to charge labor but with no warrant or guarantees.

I think I will be practical as I have nothing to lose. I went ahead and sourced for the capacitors -which I hope are correct: Capacitor Al 105deg 100uF 16V 16.3x11 -Rubicon Brand. As soon as this arrives, I will make arrangements for an Onkyo technician to do this on the side for me and hopefully, I can post the process here too -if it works... Then I will have you, Haloguys628 and Scottie2 to thank! Update ASAP!

Would a onkyo 806 remote work with a 876 receiver?

I think the 876/906 HDMI boards need 13 caps replaced, not 11...

Hi,

I use TX-SR876 for 2 years now. I have some minor sync issues with hdmi from time to time, but audio section was always flawless. Until now...

Last night I noticed some static buzz comming from the right speaker hooked up to my Onkyo. Gets really annoying with moderate to high volume levels, especially during quieter movie scenes. I tested all kind of sources and also swapped speakers to eliminate speaker/wire issues. Unfortunatelly nothing changed.

Since I run 5.1 system I turned on the bi-amp and connected front speakers to back surround/bi-amp terminals. The sound became crystal clear again.

Question arises if it is safe to run it this way? Should I go through Audyssey setup once more? Is it possible to go through Audyssey setup with non bi-amp speakers and bi-amp turned on?

Lastly, do you have any clue what could be the cause of the buzz in right channel? It is not constant - sometimes louder, then much quieter. It is present on all sources in all listening modes (also in pure direct). I would really like to have it fixed and connect speakers the proper way...

Thanks!

Yes, most likely. Some buttons or functions may not be available on the '806 remote control. Try to find good pictures of both controls before spending any money, if that is your plan.

Hello.again, can anyone tell me if I will still be able to use my 876 for 3D or should I prepare for a new unit? I'm expecting a 3D capable projector .. Did not think it an issue till now. Thanks!

It will NOT work with 3D... If you can find a player with dual HDMI outputs, you can route one to the Onkyo for sound and one for the video...

Thanks Jon S! Would I be able to run through an HDMI to my projector then have the audio through my 876? Any other solution that will not require purchasing a new receiver?

You have to make sure the player has both HDMI outputs active... I know there are some players with dual HDMI outputs but am not sure if both are active simultaneously... As an alternative, you could look for a HDMI signal splitter.

I will check that out Jon S. Thanks!

Oppo 93/95 have dual (simultaneously) HDMI outputs that you can use for 3D purpose.

Why does my TX-SR876 not have a setting 'SMALL' and 'LARGE' for speakers?
Onkyo AVRs typically have settings of either "Full Range" (aka Large) or a specific crossover, eg. 80hz (aka Small).
thxz for your quick reply.

Can you also point me in the direction where I can dl the latest firmware for the TX-SR876? Checked the Onkyo USA website but see only manuals in the dl section over there.

I just found these threads:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1016297/the-onkyo-integra-direct-firmware-updates
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1013565/firmware-update-requests-for-onkyo-integra-please-read
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1067401/the-official-onkyo-tx-sr876-owners-thread#post_14678948 (read the firmware part)

It seems that there are 2 firmware version to check: the MAIN firmware and the DSP firmware.

the latest MAIN firmware I m looking for to download is 1.05 / 09116A DHC99_116a.mot

the latest DSP (1st) firmware I m looking for to download is SR9061 08919A

If someone can please share this I would be very thankfull!

what is the best setting? i can't figure out..
Did someone ever found out what this setting actaully does to the sound/freq etc?

I am NOT looking for the answer: put it on YES if you have a THX cert. subwoofer and NO if you don t. Looking for the technical explanation what the setting DOES to the sound.

THX has a feature that is enabled for THX certified subs, Boundry Gain Compensation (http://www.thx.com/consumer/thx-technology/thx-av-receiver-features/)

The crossover point for THX subs is 80Hz (for what that might be worth rolleyes.gif ).

I just moved from the Marantz SR-5005 to an Onkyo TX-SR876 because I wanted to upgrade from Audyssey MultEQ to Mult EQ XT and could make a good deal on the Onkyo.

Tonight I fired up my HTPC in order to play a Blu-Ray movie. Unfortunately NO SOUND. I checked the Nvidia Control Panel and the audio properties of the TX-SR876 which was nicely showed by the Nvidia Control Panel. Next, when you click on the audio button in the Nvidia Control Panel you automatically are directed to the windows audio properties. The High-Def audio is set as default audio device. Next I cheched the properties of the audio device. I always select 5.1 surround and select TEST. Normally a pinging sound sequence is then heard from all the satelite speakers and subwoofer, but as soon as I click on TEST the amp shuts down and the stand-by button keeps blinking red. When I put it back on and try it again it keeps happening. Ok, no testing is what I thought, let s try Media Player Classic again: NOTHING...... no sound at all.
I know the HTPC is set up properly because everything worked ok on my older Marantz SR5005. There s also one more strange thing: when I startup windows with my Onkyo ON the Dolby Digital (red) icon is showed by the Onkyo. This also seems strange......

EDIT: When running my high-def Blu-Ray I said there is no sound comming from my AVR. To be more specific: nothing happens with the AVR. Normally you can see the AVR switch to eg. Dolby True-HD or DTS Master on it s display but that s not happening.

Also the problem is not Media Player Classic: this is configured properly because it works on my Marantz SR5005.

Setup:
- Onkyo TX-NR876 with latest MAIN firmware (1.05) and latest DSP 1st version.
- HDMI main as output to HDMI input of my JVC X30 projector.
- HTPC with Nvidia GeForce GTX460 with latest Nvidia driver
- Nvidia mini-HMDI output connected to HDMI1 input of Onkyo with a miniHDMI=>HDMI dongle=>regular HDMI cable.
- Windows7 with MPC-HC as player.

Something is not right here. Can anyone help?
If more information is needed please let me know.

New to the forum. Just purchased a used TX-SR876. I will be powering a pair of Infinity SM152's for the front speakers and will have them bridged for higher output as these are 15" woofer speakers that can handle the power. Will also have some other 15" woofer speakers for a rear channel. Question is can you set up all the channels to provide left/right stereo at equal power?
I have a couple Sony A/V receivers and the surround speakers will not play music at full levels like the front speakers so it really does no good to hook up the surround for standard stereo sound.
The 876 will be mainly used for playing music at higher levels and don't need the surround turned on but want equal power to all the speaker channels. Can this be done?
Thanks for any input.

I am suddenly getting a hum from my subwoofer connected to the 876 sub out. It appears to be from the 876 and not from a ground loop or from the sub itself. If I mute the 876 it goes away. If I unplug the RCA cable to the sub it goes away. I also tried plugging the sub into the center channel pre out and it also goes away. But plugged into the sub jack it hums when there is audio present. When there is no audio such as when the receiver switches inputs or formats the hum stops momentarily.

Has anyone encountered this before? Any suggestions?

How did you burn the CDs? What did you use to update the firmware with? (You must use a CD player with an optical output... you CANNOT use a DVD player)

Thank you for posting that manual.

Thanks for all of the suggestions....rolleyes.gif I identified the problem and luckily it is not the 876. I have been preparing to add speakers to my patio connected to Zone 2. In order to listen to tv audio I had connected analog audio cables from the Fios DVR to the 876 in addition to the normal HDMI. This must have introduced a ground loop problem because disconnecting them resolved the problem. Now I need to figure out how to have them connected without the ground issue since I still want to listen to TV audio outside.

Interestingly, the hum was present no matter what source I was listening to even though it was emanating from the single DVR analog input. It was also only present on the subwoofer output, or maybe it was a low enough frequency that it was being filtered by the crossover for the other speaker pre-outs.

Does anyone know if firmware version 1.09 will work with the 876?

No... there is no 1.09 firmware for the xx6 models. 1.09 sounds like an xx5 FW version, which would not be compatible.

Versions 1.04 or 1.05 (they are the same as far as anybody is aware of) are the latest for xx6 models (unless you are in a PAL market and have also had a hardware update that corrected a PAL video issue... in which case 1.06 is the latest.)
