Standard def dvd issues with 120hz lcd

is there a reason that a reg dvd looks bad on an upconverting dvd player when my tv is set at 120hz. it is very jumpy when it plays, smooth when i shu the 120hz off, will it still jump if i play a standard def dvd in a blu ray player. i am aware that blurays are 24fps, and i gueas that normal dvds are a 3-2 pulldown, is that why?

What tv do you have and what up upconverting player? Most 120hz tvs are always 120hz. What you are turning on and off is the motion enhancers. But my tv, the Samsung 750, has no issues with an SD DVD with motion enhancers on.
