I'll try to have a full horror week this month but it's not gonna be easy (and no centipede!, dammit!), hey at least that's a start!

Morpheo, while i really love Devil's Rejects, i think House of 1000 Corpses is even better. If you havent seen it, its an absolute must this month for you, i will be watching it sometime this month.

I'd give HOATC a 5 star rating while I'd only give the sequel 2 stars. Mainly because the atmosphere HOATC created was horror and Halloween and TDR did not continue that vibe.

Devil's Rejects is good but HOATC is in a different league all together. Although I don't rank it as the "best" horror movie ever, it is certainly my favorite. I've probably seen it 20 times.

House of 1,000 Corpses is a bit more fun, a wee bit more supernatural, and a bit more original, but the more jokey/snotty tone if it annoys some people (not me). I love both movies for totally different reasons.

Am I the only one here that didn't care for 1000 Corpses? What the what. I know I say it every year but I'm needin' to check it out again. 9 out of 10 dentists can't be wrong.

I mean come on...someone rating these movies 5/5....they are clearly not "The Exorcist" or "Rosemary's Baby". That's what 5/5 is for.

They ain't bad, though.

HOOTC is excellent. Zombie's and/or his production crew's attention to detail is excellent. Dr. Satan's lair is incredible in that regard and so is most of the other sets. I also like TDR, but I don't rank it as high as House. And while we're on the subject, his Halloween movies were a let down for me. I don't think I've seen the second one - there is a second one, yes?

Also, one of the other reasons I hold HOOTC in such high regard is that is pays homage to some of the older modern horror movie classics.

RZ's Halloween is a letdown for me, too. That's why I actually respect his own original movies.

RZ's Halloween 2 though? It is the worst movie ever made. I'm serious.

1-5 is too narrow of a range if we're talking integers, IMO. And we all have our own opinions.

We all have different taste Fenders, for instance, I agree that The Exorcist is a 5/5, but i would rate Rosemary's Baby a 2.5 at best.

But this is what makes the world go around, it would be boring if everyone had the same taste.

Meanwhile, i didnt get to watch a movie today, now i am one down. Not sure if i can catch up due to what goes on in my house with my wife. Maybe if some good movies come out in the theater, i can watch one at home and one in the theater in a day. Anyone know whats coming to theaters this month?

But on a good note, i have verified with Xfinity (my cable company) that on the 12th they will have The Human Centipede II available to watch On Demand. They will have both Centipede movies, but i already own number 1.

As a movie, it's certainly not worse than Battlefield Earth or Alone In The Dark

Opinions are great. But mis-rating things by exhibiting ceiling effects is just plain incorrect.

They are terrible movies, but they are not "wretched" movies. They do not instill the epitome of hate and disgust for any given viewer. Halloween 2 is so bad that it makes me want to punch someone (which is something I've never done before).

+1 We all have our own scales, yours is no more valid than mine. HOATC and Exorcist are not only very different brands of horror but have about 35 years between them. That said I give a good T-bone steak 5 stars the same I would a good fillet, love both cuts for different reasons

I'm guessing you and the Mrs. go to bed at the same time? My wife is usually out by 10-11 and I am a total night owl so that's how I've been squeezing in a couple a night.

She goes to bed AFTER me, i go 11:30 -12, she is up later. However, i get up earlier, thats why my time is early in the morning, but if i miss that window, its hard to get a movie in as she is always floating around in the den where i want to watch.

Bummer... having all the lights out and the surround sound on adds so much to the experience. You should buy a pair of tickets to some chick flick for like a 9:30 show and send her and one of her girlfriends out for a bit

So good! Enjoy. Who's going to see the "prequel" next week?

This is for tomorrow at my place. Won't be a crazy party like Pieces but it should be fun. If any of you guys are in town feel free to stop by.

^Dawn of the Dead is a five star for me. Saw it as a 16 year old, theatrically, and still love it!
Thanks for the pity guys!!!! And Wizzack, thanks for mentioning the Yankees, that loss really hit me hard.

I think my only way to get back on pace is to watch a movie at home in the morning, and then go to the theater in the afternoon by myself and watch a horror movie. I know The Thing remake of the remake (or prequel or whatever it is) is coming up as Wizzack said, i can do that one day, and hopefully another one or two will come along.

yankeeman - Sounds like a great plan man! Maybe you could talk the Mrs. into catching The Thing with you, I'm still working on mine for that one. Still, I guess I'm a pretty blessed guy, my wife and I have mostly the same tastes in movies and when we don't she will mess around on the computer and let me watch my thing. We're coming up on 10 years since our first blind date on 10/19/01 and 2 kids later I would not want to imagine my life any other way.

October 7th:
The Loved Ones: 5 stars - Fantastic movie from the first frame to the last. Exceptional performances all the way around but Robin McLeavy as Lola was amazing... scarily convincing psycho chick! Not a lot of "scary" moments but plenty of tension and discomfort blended with excellent pacing and a very fitting score/soundtrack to back it all up!

The Relic: 4 stars - I reviewed this one last year so all I'll say is it is a great creature feature with a healthy blend of CGI and good ol fashion prosthetic creature creating. Too bad we see such an over use of CGI instead of blending like this these days.

Kenobi, take my wife to see The Thing? Are you crazy man, I could give her a diamond bracelet for going and she still wouldnt go, its a total phobia, not just a dis-like. In a week we will be together 17 years, and its been great, but she just cant watch horror movies.

In fact, as they get wilder, she is having more trouble watching regular tv shows like CSI and such due to bloody shots. I gotta go out real early this morning for a short time, but she knows i am gonna watch a movie when i get back, and my review will be below in a few hours.

I have to find a second wife then!

Well, with that other thread here getting insane over The Human Centipede, i choose that as my movie this morning. Yes, i watched THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE, and its my third or fourth watching of this movie.

Disgusting? Horrific? Yeah, but for me, thats fine since this is supposed to be a HORROR movie. We are not supposed to be watching a fine drama here.

Its not as graphic as many think it is, but it really gives you the feeling of whats going on, and you feel terrible for the people who become the centipede.

The concept behind this is totally unique, fresh, and perfect for a HORROR movie. Also, the actor who plays the doctor is total perfection in his role, he is superb.

I like this movie, many wont just because of the concept, but to each their own. I give this 3 stars out of 5.

2011 October Ratings - 5 Star Scale
01- Return of the Swamp Thing - 2.5
02- Hostel - 5
03- Event Horizon - 3.5
04- Resident Evil: Apocalypse - 4.25
05- Sphere - 3.75
06- Wrong Turn 3 - 3
07- The Human Centipede - 3

Of course. I won't discuss my opinions about this franchise as I'm already doing it in the other thread, so you already have an idea where I stand... Based on what I've read, the actor who portrays the mad doctor in the first film gives an indeed very good performance, and apparently that's one of the things the second film lacks. I hope we can see him in other roles.

That's a tough call for me. I think they are both good. HOATC definitely has more of a creepy old-school vibe. It's obvious that Zombie loves the older horror flicks. DR is more hardcore ultraviolence.

I was an extra in this and I've never even seen it.

Now this is just plain ridiculous. I am a big fan of Z's Halloween and although the sequel was certainly no masterpiece, it is not even close to being one of the worst movies of all time. For example, turn on SyFy today and watch a few flicks. I absolutely guarantee that you'll find something significantly worse.

On a completely different note......am I the only one who watched American Horror Story? I'm dying to get someone else's impressions on that show.
