Finally got the remotes back so read and despair, fellow members. My almost nine-year old daughter saw the following and here is her review:

13 Ghosts (2001) 5/5.0It made me worried, nervous, and happy (because I LOVE horror movies.) My favorite part was when the guy got sliced in two by the door! Why do ghosts have to be so evil?

One of my favorites this morning, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES. If you havent seent this, you need to.

A great dysfuctional family, and who wouldnt love Captain Spaudling?????

Done in a great old-time style, this is quite a movie. Just once in awhile the style and family kinda bug me a little which prevents me from giving this 5 stars, but i give it 4.5 as its damn close.

Ha! Never thought about it from the other side before.

I was lazy Sunday night and didn't feel like firing up the home theater so I decided to grab something off the DVR instead. When's the last time I watched a Friday the 13th movie? May? Been long enough.

Jason vs Carrie is my second favorite in the series. It's fun seeing Mr. Voorhees get his ass handed to him! At one point when the pus is oozing from his cranium I actually felt a little bad for the fella.

VII ended at midnight and since I wasn't too tired might as well go for another. Watch out Big Apple, here comes Jason! Don't worry you'll have plenty of time to prepare for his appearance since he spends 80% of the movie on a ****ing boat.



I remember leaving the theater PISSED after this one. Me and my teenage buddies expected Jason to go ape-sh*t on NYC killing everything in sight. I think we even wanted him to climb the Empire State Building and toss around fighter jets like toys! As an adult (*cough*) this flick is still disappointing 'cept for the boxer dude getting killed and Kane Hodder's 2nd great performance as JV.

For your zombie lovers. I HIGHLY recommend Aaah Zombies! (Wasted away)
Netflix has it on stream and dve.

This movie is fun and yes low budget but worth the watch.
This story is told from the Zombies POV and we have got it all wrong

9. I Can See You (2008)
This movie is rated 100 on Rotten Tomatoes, which is an amazing feat considering how strange and unclassifiable it is. On its surface, it's about a trio of guys trying to land a big advertising contract who decide to take a camping retreat to help clear their minds. Of course, things start to go wrong, and that's where the horror starts. There is a great creepy David Lynchian feeling to the movie, especially in the way ordinary things begin to take on a horrifying aspect simply by being unclear, unfocused, and uncomfortable. The last 15 minutes may either be mind-blowing or frustrating for you, but they are undeniably visually (and aurally) stunning. Personally this is one of my favorite new "weird-out" movies.

Finally posted my thoughts (and wife's) on movies we've seen in the past week - Stake Land, The Thing and The Reef.

With our work schedules, weekend plans and backlogged TV shows, I've decided there's just no way we'll get in 31 movies this October. I've decided to set a new goal at 13, with any extras being icing on top. We celebrate Halloween all month (year) long, and that partially means being away from the house at parties, haunted houses, etc.

Based on her reviews, I've also noticed that the wife seems to think the movies we've been watching aren't that scary (which they haven't been). I believe Sam in "Trick 'r Treat" did the most psychological damage. There have been many post-viewing mentions of "that creepy pumpkin kid"...

Very well, don't test me! Time to kick it up a notch!

Oct. 9: Slither (2006)

A good B-movie with a nice balance of laughs and horror. More gooey gross-out than gore. Michale Rooker (who starred in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) is quite good as the loving husband. Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity, Castle)is always likeable.

Oct. 9th -

33. "Rammbock: Berlin Undead" - "Just when Michael arrives in Berlin to visit his ex-girlfriend Gabi, a terrible virus starts spreading across the city at a rapid pace, turning people into mindless homicidal maniacs. Much to Michael's concern, Gabi's not home; instead, he meets Harper, a teenage plumber's apprentice at work in her apartment block. Together, they manage to barricade themselves when raging hordes of infected people swarm the building. Surrounded by these thirsty zombies, Michael and Harper have their hands full to survive - and it will take all of their ingenuity to make their way out to try and find Gabi."

Short but sweet! Worth a watch for sure.

10. Strangeland (1998)- {3.25/5} (First-time viewing) Here is another movie that I would classify as more of a suspense/thriller rather than horror. In fact, there was only one kill that I can remember and it was at the very end. This movie is still very dark and twisted though in that it centers on underground S&M factions and a man who kidnaps folks to torture them for his own pleasure. The methods of torture that were used were very inventive and actually quite impressive. Dee Snider does a fair job in his dual-role and he certainly looked the part of an S&M/torture overlord as he is an extremely hideous man. Acting and pacing were solid throughout (although there were some holes in the story that went unexplained) and the scene at the end when Snider burns to death was very cool . I thought the movie ended abruptly though, as it seemed like there should have been more to the story. After a fairly solid effort with Strangeland, its surprising that this is Snider's only film (as a writer/producer).

11. The Rocky Horror Picture Show. One of the best musicals around, and it has a fantastic message. What seriously more needs to be said? 9/10.

The Lost: 2 stars - First off this is NOT a horror movie, more like the biography of an overly emotional psychotic teen. The movie started off strong but really dragged until the last 15-20 minutes. It included a scene towards the end that had my thumb on the eject button because it bothered me but I finished watching it. The lead character Ray was played very very well, scarily convincing but all in all the movie did not fit the "horror" genre, was a bit dull for me and the last 5 min or so didn't sit well.

34. "Re-cut" - "Following the discovery of the murder of two twin girls in their family's barn, a former reality TV-star is dispatched by a TV-news station to uncover the mystery behind their gruesome deaths."

Another hand-held camera "reality" feel type movie. It has it's moments but it is very predictable and there are times of boredom as well as too much shaky cam.

35. "Red Mist (aka Freakdog)" - "A young doctor in a US hospital administers a powerful and untested cocktail of drugs to a coma victim. But instead of curing him, it triggers a powerful "out-of-body" experience and enables the patient - a depraved and dangerous loner - to inhabit other people's bodies and, through them, take revenge on the bullying medical students who were accidentally responsible for his condition."

Not bad but very predictable, some blood and gore, nice looking lead actress (Arielle Kebbel - Ranked #48 in Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2009 list.). While better than the director's previous movie "Shrooms" it's only worth a rent at best. My suggestion... let a friend rent it and watch it at their place.

36. "No Man's Land: Rise of the Reeker" - "A sheriff and his son chase casino robbers, only to find the all of them are being chased by something else."

More of a remake of the original movie "Reeker" than the sequel it's suppose to be. Nice twist at the end but if you've seen the original you'll know what the twist is. If you have not seen the original then you may find this more entertaining.

10. The Janitor (2003) (first-time viewing)
This shot-on-video horror comedy is very low-budget, very tasteless, and often quite funny. An outcast office janitor with anger management issues goes on a bloody rampage against everyone who crosses him. Things only get worse when his janitor buddy betrays him, stealing his coveted night job at a local sorority house. This is one of those movies that is bad but it wears its badness proudly, and asks the audience to be in on the joke, and for the most part this works. Hammy over-acting, lots of blood, multiple limbs being ripped off, gross humor, and several different obvious dummies (supposed to be real people) being thrown off buildings, run over by cars, and set on fire. You could do better things with 90 minutes of your life than watch this movie, but you could do worse.

12. John Carpenter's Village of the Damned. Totally an underrated Carpenter movie. This was my fifth viewing, and I still find huge potential with this film. If you're a Carpenter fan, this is sort of his last "conventional horror" movie. Fantastic soundtrack, cinematography, and certainly a few scares and some suspense. Stands above Ghosts of Mars, Vampires, The Ward, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, and Escape from L.A. Has an "independent feel" to it due to the budget, but still feels like a 100% Carpenter film. 7/10.

Sorry to hear that this one didn't work for you. You know, the more that we delve deeper into the genre to find more and more titles to watch, the further we go out of the realm of "horror". That fact did not diminish my enjoyment of The Lost, but I would agree that it (along with many others that have shown up on our lists) is not your traditional horror film.

All the Scary Movies are stupid, but come on--Part 2 just takes the stupidity-cake to new levels; it's childish-stupid. That's why I love it though...totally a guilty pleasure. I remember seeing this with some friends quite a long time ago. Part 1 is actually kinda good. I didn't care much for 3 (or "3.5") or 4. Part 2 is the best one when it comes to entertainment IMO.

There's tons of funny parts to it, actually. The Butler scenes just take the cake. Using his hand to mix the mash potatoes. Man, I get teary eyed at that point.

I really enjoyed 1 and 2. The series started to wear on me after that. You're right though, 2 is probably the best but it is soley due to Chris Elliott IMO. The mashed potatoes scene is absolutely friggin hilarious. Its so funny how he purposely makes people uncomfortable with that hand.

MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN was my movie this morning.

A photographer thinks he is stalking a serial killer late at nights on the subways but finds out there is more to it than he thinks.

CGI gore effects take a little bit away from this movie, but overall its very good. Great moody shots of the subway trains, tunnels, and stations, i love the way this whole film was shot. Good story keeps you interested. A fine choice to watch this month. I will give it a 3.75 out of 5 stars.

Even with Bradley Cooper I couldn't get my wife to watch 30 minutes of this but what a sleeper. This one flew way under the radar and I know plenty of people that didn't like it but I loved it. Very rare that I would give such praise to a horror film with so much CGI but there was a pretty interesting story here too and Leslie Bibb is always a nice bonus

Midnight Meat Train is fantastic. It's a good adaptation to Clive Barker's short story, found in his "Books of Blood," first omnibus.

The short story, believe it or not, is actually more graphic than the film. It is one of the best short stories ever written, IMO. You guys OWE it to yourself to read it to gain more affection for the film. The short story is better than the film, but it's one of those faithful adaptations (for the most part).

The Ward is pretty damn conventional but in no way is above Escape From L.A. Above Ghosts of Mars for sure but not Escape.

I agree. I wouldn't even consider "Village of the Damned" to be in Carpenter's "bottom tier", actually. For what it intends to do, it does quite well. I would rate Carpenter's "bottom tier" as such:

Village of the Damned
----------bottom tier (6.0/10 or less)-------------
Escape from LA
Vampires
Memoirs of an Invisible Man
The Ward
Ghosts of Mars

So I totally agree that Escape From LA, even with all of its flaws and how much it misses the mark from what Escape From NY is on every level, is at least entertaining and has some very memorable scenes. Totally the king of his bottom tier.

I was trying to get to 50 by now but I had a couple of days were I was under the weather and had a hard time staying awake while trying to watch a movie so I just gave up and caught up on some sleep. Other days the weather has just been so nice it's hard to stay inside and I usually wind up going outside for a few hours.

I'm actually at 37 (just finished my morning movie) hopefully I can get 3 more in today. I post the ones I watch today late tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.

I'm going to be forced to go back to some of my favorites since I have been unable to find anything new (other than a couple) that's are any good (I really like "Rammbrock: Berlin Undead").

ApolloCreed - I thought Strangeland was a surprisingly good film. Like a Devil's Rejects lite.

Yankeeman - I've been wanting to see Midnight Meat Train. The title and plot remind me a bit of a great oldie with Donald Pleasance called Raw Meat (aka Death Line) (1973).


October 10: Matango (aka Attack of the Mushroom People) (1963)

I love almost all of Ishirô (Godzilla) Honda's movies. I watch them in Japanese with subtitles. This isn't super scary, but has a building horror. It is more of a character study than monster movie. And, are the monsters really monsters? You be the judge!

I realize that I don't rate the films I watch. I'm mostly watching ones I know I like.
