There doesn't appear to be any new units available, even at Best Buy. There are refurb ones on Ebay and Best Buy and there are some used ones on Amazon. I'm hesitating to pull the trigger now. There are obviously other region-free blu-ray players out there, but most are at least double the price. I guess I could just opt for a region-free dvd player................
I'd say go for it, it is way cheaper than the other options and it will still run netflix and play bluray. If for some reason it doesn't accept the firmware you can always sell it back on the bay with no loss. If you haven't done so already might be worth asking the question over in the owners thread.

@ AMC I guess they're still putting the finishing touches on the programming and site. All I'm really worried about it The Walking Dead! I have two friends that read all of the comics and they both said we are in for a treat once Rick and the group get in the prison. Hoping the show can carry the momentum it had going last season. *fingers crossed*
For sure, last season... well the second part of it was great! The first part not so much... looking for the kid and all got old quick.

Needless to say, the DVR will be set. cool.gif
I'll give it another try but for some reason that show just wasn't grabbing me. Now Dexter on the other hand is going to eff'n rawk! Can't wait for that!!!

In other news I watched I Saw The Devil last night. I had seen it a while back via streaming and wanted to see how the bluray transfer was and it finally came up to ship in my queue. I know most would probably put that in the thriller/revenge genre but I would definitely place it in horror. The violence, story, and overall dark tone to it plants it firmly in the horror genre for me and after watching it for a second time I upped my rating from 4 to a perfect 5 star review. Just an amazing movie... the Koreans are really putting out some great stuff recently... The Man From Nowhere was another one that I just loved and bought a copy of after renting it. Highly recommended if y'all have not seen them.

That is awesome! Unfortunately the HT and garage are the only areas that belong to me, the rest is all Mrs. but that would be great for some warped undead bed & breakfast joint!

Perhaps a "Dead and Breakfast", no?

Glad to hear "I Saw The Devil" is that good, that's on my list!

I'm not pushing my luck, it was hard enough to sell her on the 65VT50! She's a good sport when it comes to Halloween so I'll take what I can get.

Speaking of which I am going to have to re-vision my tea party as it has been too hard/expensive to put together the taxidermied heads I would need to make it work. I'm still doing the tea party but will be adjusting to work with a more convenient and cost effective, yet equally disturbing display. This year I will be taking some photos but will also have my wife do a video walk-through to share. Last year was kind of a bust with the contest cancelation at work and all but I had video from 2010:

I love that video. Shoulda been the winner!

Yes, nice job! I like the plastic bag over the head. It creates a nice effect and you don't have to be a make-up or effects wiz to create the head and using a pre-made mask would take the realism out of it.

Any of you know where I can get a Chucky costume for a 18 month old? Wife got the baby a pink poodle outfit but we've got several stops this year for Halloween and her as Chucky with one of those plastic knives with a retractable end would be classic.

I know, I got a bum deal on that for sure... by one vote too! I was butt sore about that.

Realism is everything... You can get away with less realism in the props when you can use lighting to mask some of the issues but most props need more work to get them looking right. Dirt and fake blood go a long way in that regard.

Depends if you want to use a mask or do make-up... either way there are plenty out there at spirit, walmart, etc.

Awesome video, Kenobi!

I found an excellent (and cheap) oversized foam skull for sale today. I am re-thinking making a Slender Man and might just make a giant Grim Reaper this year instead--a Grim Reaper would be much more recognizable, and my graveyard hasn't looked right since my gravedigger bit the dust in 2010. Best of all, I have a real scythe that I can put in the Grim Reaper's hand, so now that I have the skull, all I really need to do is find (or make) some large skeletal hands.

Still planning on making a Sam from Trick 'r Treat, but I may have to make his outfit from scratch. I have to get the proportions right--all my other decorations are really big so Sam will be larger than a normal child's size, yet still look smaller compared to the other decorations.

My idea of Halloween night is to go to a movie so I don't have to answer the door. If it is a horror film befitting the evening all the better.

Our Halloween (October really) will consist of a couple of pumpkin farms to get pics of the baby, a local festival, a church trick or treat, and whatever locals turn up on the actual night of. Of course when I'm home and the kid is asleep there will be horror on the tube. Before the baby we never went to any of that stuff.

It's a blast man... I love the horror stuff but the trunk r' treat at the church and the pumpkin farm we go to with the kids is just great... good downhome family fun. The pumpkin farm near my house is massive, it's called Bishop's Pumpkin Farm and has so much to do... hughe corn maze, naspig races, hayrides, train, petting zoo, tons of food like pizza, tri-tip sandies, corn dogs, all kinds of home made pumpkin goodies... really great fun.

I just got back from Joann Fabrics getting some fabric for the boogeyman... might be the first time I've gone in there of my own free will.

Hahaha! I was just at JoAnn over the weekend looking for burnt-orange linen for Sam's coveralls! I won't even try sewing when I can glue-gun!

Don't forget the 40% off coupons guys. biggrin.gif

darth/Kenobi/peeps with kids - I said this last year and I'll say it again: I'm jealous. Love the way you are able to do the family fun activities & the rated R stuff.

Love the video Kenobi. BTW, I think I'm gonna roll the dice on that player. What's the worst that could happen??

I wish I had more free time to create a cool theme for our house in the spirit of Halloween, but it appears that we'll settle for a few pumpkins and some horror movie get-togethers as usual.

In other news, I recall some talk of Livide and other foreign movies earlier in the thread. Now that I'll be getting a region-free player, I was wondering if there were any Livide/The Loved Ones/etc. owners out there that may be interested in perhaps swapping movies (temporarily) for October? I have some new movies for the challenge this year (and tons of old ones) that I'm willing to lend out in return. Livide and The Loved Ones are like $30 if I recall so I'm reluctant to buy them without at least seeing them first. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM.

New flicks that I own that may be of interest are:

-A Serbian Film
-Hellraiser blu-ray
-Jaws 100th Anniv. blu-ray
-Woman
-Inkubus
-The Devil's Rock
-Behind the Mask: The Rise of Lesle Vernon blu-ray
-Excision blu-ray (coming soon)

I'll let the Mrs. tackle that, I have no talent for such things.

Livide is region free but wizzack has dibs on that first. Shoot me a PM and copy him with your address and he will forward it when he is done. for region locked titles I only have The Loved Ones and Suspiria on bluray and a Nori the Curse which is DVD region 3 I believe. I have The Silent House (B locked) on blu but it was not a IFC release so for some reason it does not have the scene that plays after the credits start rolling and IMO that is a great scene worth watching the DVD over the bluray for. I have both the REC movies on blu imported from Canada (region A obviously). You are welcome to borrow any/all but Suspiria and The Loved Ones are headliners so if you want those I would just request you watch them within the first 2 weeks of October so I have them back for the second. If you want to share Excision that would be awesome... the others I have or have seen but thanks anyhow!

BTW - I need ideas for my Boogeyman costume. I bought some black burlap to make a hooded robe that can go over but need something under that. The CFX folks use this jacket which is okay but not quite where I want to be with the look. Any ideas?

is there anything you can do "cheap" that has ribs showing? Other than that I think the black outfit will fit just fine. The look on that mask's face is what really seals the deal and will draw all of the attention.

I'm 99% sure me and my wife are going as Adventure Time zombies this year. Anyone not familiar with the show it's an incredible adult/kid themed show on Cartoon Network. Our most favorite since Aqua Teen Hunger Force back in the 90's. smile.gif

ugh! I am ordering a decent red eye contact right now but having regrets. I know if I save the $ til 2013 I could have a set of contacts that will last me a long time and actually used in movies by 9mm efx. The 9mm lenses are mind blowing but t's so hard to wait a year. tis life!

and just on a side note for people in my area next month: they won't stop adding Walking Dead people to the monster mania convention. Just this week they added Herschel and Carol to the guest list. I would love to meet these people but I have nothing for them to sign. redface.gif

I had to sell a pistol to justify my mask but since I'm mostly a rifle guy I was okay with it... besides I'll replace it with my bonus next month:p I would totally invest in the contacts, you get what you pay for... usually. And, for people like us that are so critical of such things it matters.

I think I am going to just get a black long sleeve thermal and make some adjustments. Some extra material from the burlap should work and once the lighting is factored in, like you said the focus will be on the mask. BTW - trailer for The Collection is up, looks good!

I never got into Rock Horror but my niece did and my great niece at age 3 was singing songs from it! I'm not the only one who likes to "escape" Halloween by going to a movie as the theaters are often busy those nights and often with an older clientele. biggrin.gif

Don't know if it's been mentioned but I watch "From Within" a 2008 After Dark offering on Netflix WI last night and thought it was quite good with some chills:
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/From_Within/70109688

Don't recall it being part of their Horror Fest though as I used to rent all of those.

Kenobi, have you considered wearing a black morphsuit underneath? (You wouldn't have to wear the headpiece since you have a mask). That way you can still do your burlap cloak over it, and not worry about getting all scratched up. Also black is a good color that will put the focus back on that mask! Another idea is to go for the Hellraiser Cenobite look, something leathery or S&M might work. You could hang chains and that kind of stuff from it.

Has anyone seen the movie "The Devil's Business"? British Gangster Horror. I've read several good reviews online but I don't know where this movie is available at this point--I couldn't find it on Amazon or Netflix, so I'm assuming it's only in theaters, but I don't see it in any local theaters either.

Available now from Amazon UK, Region 2 (DVD only listed). I will be watching this one in October.
