The Tall Man is on Netflix Streaming so don't rent it on Vudu. It's at least got Jessica Biel and it's new.

Ooh thanks for the heads up. This might be the perfect kickoff movie for Monday.

Don't get too excited it sucks! Really shouldn't even be called a horror movie.

Damn! The trailer had me fooled. Gotta come up with something else then.

I've been avoiding horror because I want to save it for October, but I am cheating a little...viewing the extras and stuff on the DVDs and Blu Rays, but not the actual movie by itself. Well, I watched "Trick r Treat" the other night with the director's commentary on, since I've seen the movie so many times. Not a perfect commentary but fun enough. I just bought "Cabin in the Woods" on Blu yesterday--I quite enjoyed this when I saw it theatrically so I'm looking forward to seeing some of those extras.

Does anyone have any "horror movie chickens" in their life? I mean, grown adults who are afraid to watch horror movies? My brother is a total horror movie chicken, although he is also drawn to them at the same time. Once I put on just the preview to "Suspiria" and I think it scarred him for life--he still talks about how he would never watch the whole movie based on how scary the preview is. He is really afraid of horror movies (has been since he was a kid, he's a grown man now), but god bless him, once a year in October he watches a horror movie with me during my marathon anyway. Since he's such a chicken, I usually put on something with lots of scares, then a fun horror movie as a second feature! Last year we watched "The Descent" first, and then "Sleepaway Camp" and he really liked it. So this year he promised he would watch "Insidious" as long as we watched some "fun" horror afterwards. I'm leaning towards "Night of the Creeps" but possibly "Monster Squad" or even "Cabin in the Woods" for the second feature.

Those are all good choices Bob but for the fun one, I might go with Cabin in the Woods.,

Hey Bob just a heads up: you might want to play Insidious as your "fun"one. It starts out serious but the tone changes almost suddenly around halfway in.

My girlfriend and her daughter are going out to see it after church this evening. I pointed out that since she screwed up, we both suffer since I have to watch her. I simply told my daughter she'll toe-the-line next time so this kind of thing doesn't happened again.

Thanks for the head's up on DBAOTD. I'll skip it. Last thing I want to say to myself is "Well, that's 100 minutes of my life I can't get back."

Bob - I'm with wizz on this one, Insidious was not scary. It's like a cheap Chinese copy of Poltergiest with a cameo by Darth Maul.

If he handles The Descent last year you should queue up The Exorcist, REC, 30 Days of Night, Session 9, etc. and do cabin in the woods for the fun one.
Oooh, Session 9. That would probably give him a heart attack! Thanks for the advice, guys. He is convinced Insidious must be the scariest movie, based on what he's read about it, but I'll try to sway him.

Kenobi, I thought you in particular would appreciate this video clip of these incredible Halloween decorations. This guy lives on the other side of town but every year I drive out to see his decorations. I didn't take this video but I found it today. This video was taken in the morning and the motorized stuff isn't on, but at night many of the figures are moving and they look a lot creepier. But you can get a good idea of how much work this guy puts into his display. And it might give you some good ideas!

Not bad! I wonder how he deals with weather issues? I thought about extending mine to the side of the house but did not want to run the risk or have to set things up in a way that would tolerate bad weather. Session 9 is all about psychological horror and atmosphere... the fact it was filmed in a real abandon insane asylum is just fantastically macabre and adds so much to the feel of the movie that could not have been obtained with a set creation IMO.

For some other ideas check my post here from a couple weks back where I posted some trailers and movie titles available through Vudu and NF.

Yup. My best friend is a big chicken. He asks me if some movies are scary and since I've got to know what a wimp he is I tell him that I can't answer it. Nothing scares me in a movie. smile.gif He thought Skyline had some scary parts!

Of course. Lots of people. Partly out of fear but mostly for the utter unpleasantness of it all. Believe it or not, some people don't find the depiction of extreme emotional and physical violence entertaining nor do they enjoy the aspect of feeling dread and revulsion throughout a movie. Crazy, huh!?! tongue.gif

These are usually the same people that sit out the extreme coasters at six flags, bungie jumping, etc. Nothing at all against them but I think there is definitely a connection between the adrenaline junkie and the horror fan.

Anyone else leading into our 31 days the Dexter tonight!?!?!?!
Fever Night is one of these "Jamie and his friends" or rather "Jordan and his friends" make a movie but interesting enough for me to see where it goes. Cheap production values but from the credits looks like it was done by some UC Santa Barbara film students.

So what movie is everyone looking forward to the most?

Looking forward to the most? Not sure. Livide and The Loved Ones have me very intrigued; however, I'm a real sucker for my "go-to" flicks (THOTD, HOTC). Kickoff lineup has changed several times over the past couple of days, but the choices appear to be 1. Jaws or The Exorcist and 2. Martyrs or I Saw the Devil for my double-feature.

Well, i have been buying dvd's the last few months, and now i have somewhere between 15 and 18 movies that i have never seen!!!!
I am gonna start out the month with them and see how long i can go with first watches, i am so looking forward to this!!
I wont even tell you guys in advance what i got, i took a real chance on some that i never heard of, its gonna be interesting. They might be great, they might suck, but it will be fun seeing a lot of new stuff.
You will see what i got day by day as i review them for you.
Its Friday, and Monday we start, boy time flies, seems like last October just ended and the next October seemed so far away, yet here it is!!!!
I hope we get additional people with us this year, the more the better.
I may not give actual ratings this year, not sure. I feel pressured sometimes with a number or a letter, then also it drives me nuts at times comparing movies, like if this movie was a 7, should the movie i just watched be a 7.5 since its a teenie bit better or not? Also, i think i tend to rank too high anyway in general, so i may just comment on the movies. Gonna play that by ear.

I'm excited to see your "never seen before" list. Hopefully there's a few gems in there that I can add in the future.

Ratings. They do get a little stressful (and time-consuming), so I feel ya on that one. For me though, its part of the overall experience so I'm gonna push through it despite the drawbacks.

I feel the same way about Insidious. Although it's not a bad movie, it really does have 2 distinct parts to it. The first is actually very enjoyable and it has you thinking you're in for a real thrill ride, but once the Poltergeist crew gets involved, it really loses steam.

I'm approximately 24 hours from the start of my kickoff double feature and it's one of the few times I can remember being excited to return from vacation. 11 months of waiting is coming to a close...................cool.gif

So I waited until it turned midnight on the east coast to continue the quest to get 31 horror films in by Halloween. I know I will make it with my jump films but I wanna make it official.

Film #1 was The Final on Netflix instant.

It was more of a torture porn movie then a horror movie and centered around the nerds at a high school throwing a costume party to take out their bullies. The film was ok and if you happen to like torture porn will probably like it more. It truly was terrifying in that I could see the events in this film actually happening somewhere at any given time.

Not sure what next film will be but I know at some point I will end up renting Bait 3d after reading the reviews in the 3d content section of AVSFORUM.

My second film was called The Graves and it was found on Epix on Demand.

The Grave sisters stumble upon a ghost town in Arizona and they fight a children of the Corn like demi God off. The film had Bill Moseley and Candy Man himself Tony Todd in it. It was just ok and you could do worse then this film, but you won't remember it after the credits are done rolling.

Thanks, for the tips, wonka. Both are on NF streaming for the OnDemand challenged.

Apollo, you are right about ratings, i will force them out.

As to the post about people afraid of horror, thats my wife. She freaks out when they show a piece of glass in someones body on CSI on tv. I have to watch my horror movies in another room with the door closed and headphones on as most of you guys know.

I was so looking forward to this month, now my head isnt in it. My brother-in-law, who has had all kinds of physical and mental problems for many years and has driven us nuts being a real SOB on top of that has gotten very sick. We have been dealing with him, hospitals, rehab centers, etc, and now last nite we spent the whole nite in the emergency room getting him re-admitted into the hospital. My wife is having a nervous breakdown, the emotions are so mixed because neither of us likes this guy but its her brother and there is nobody else to help him and she feels obligated, and its destroying our lives. I feel like we are living a horror movie with this guy. I know i sound cruel, but you guys dont know the 30 years of abuse and s--t he has given my wife and Yet here we are killing ourselves to do what we can for him. Its a real bad situation. He has no money too, we have to help him, and we are both retired and not rich, the whole thing sucks and has taken away my thrill of watching the horror movies right now.

But i wont give the movies up, as soon as i eat breakfast i will go inside, shut the door, put the headphones on, and watch a movie. My reviews will probably be shorter than they should be, bear with me, i am not in a good mood, but i wont give up this month with you great guys.

Let me go eat now so i can watch the movie before we get a phone call from the hospital.

Ah, yes. The Final. If I recall, this one was more like a poorly executed play than it was a movie. The start has you thinking it has potential, but man, what a letdown once it all unfolds.

Got my first movie in.

THE BUTCHER, 2007, by Palisades Tartan Asia Extreme. If you want to see it make sure you get this one, there are quite a few movies out there with the same name.

This is a FIRST TIME WATCH for me, as will all my movies the first half of this month.

Its a low-budget Asian movie with English sub-titles. Basic premise is 4 people are captured and tortured as a few people are making torture/snuff films.

Whats interesting is the concept of the movie-makers having cameras and also the captured people have cameras strapped to their heads, and the movie jumps back and forth between the two views.

Most of the gore is off screen, which i usually hate, i love to SEE gore, however this movie gets into your head big-time. The sound is what gets to you, the actors are billiant at keeping up constant sounds of terror, and then of course screams of agony during the torture.

It really creates a mood, and can be very terrifying even without seeing most of the gore. I would rank this higher is the gore was seen, but its definetely worth watching if you like capture/torture type movies. I can see where you could think about this movie for days after watching it.

I will rate 1 thru 5 Zombies (i am not gonna use points or stars for this month!!).

I will give this a 3-Zombie rating, and many would rate it higher for the way it gets in your head. You just have to realize it is low budget, but it shows a horror movie can be low budget and still get the job done.

MOVIES WATCHED OCTOBER 2012:
1- The Butcher - 3 Zombies
