Kenobi I'm in the same boat. Don't want to wait for DMTH. Can anyone recommend it as a blind buy? I've got a $5 coupon at BB to use.

Airboss thanks for the recommendation on Inferno. I've yet to see it but will get it in this week for sure.

wizzack, as I stated the acting is not that great but thankfully the visuals are amazing. BTW, the plot can be confusing at times but I didn't really care, I was memorized by the cinematography and wonderful use of color!

Day 13, lucky number, and i watched INSIDE. Boy, not much plot or character development, but one of the absolute horrific gore-fests you are ever gonna see. Perfect for a sick-o like me. I liked it a lot. The French can do some good horror, thats for sure.
Thanks wizzack! I do try to shake things up. Variety is the spice of life, right?

Banner day for me yesterday: 2 theatrical movies back to back, and one home viewing! Helps to have the day off!

12. Zombieland (first-time viewing)
Wow! This movie was so fun, and kicked so much ass! This may represent the pinnacle of the modern zombie comedy. Great characters, great everything. I laughed, I applauded, I even shed a tear. I will not spoil anything by mentioning specifics--just go see it!

13. Paranormal Activity (first-time viewing)
You know, Blair Witch didn't work for me, and this one didn't either. (I really wanted to like both). Not enough story to keep me involved, and the scares just weren't working for me. The audience seemed split on this one--about half were saying "That's it?" when it was over (some even laughed in exasperation), but the other half seemed very scared by the movie. Unfortunately I fell into the former and not the latter group. Go see for yourself and decide.

14. The Nightmare Before Christmas
I've always liked this movie and now that I have kids, I guess I'm going to watch it every year. Not really horror but definitely has its place on a pre-Halloween viewing list!

2009 Horror Movie Marathon List:
1. The Golem
2. Onibaba
3. Fire in the Sky

9. Deep Red
10. Deadgirl

12. Zombieland
13. Paranormal Activity
14. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Watched "Silk" last night and would recommend this to anyone that doesn't mind subtitles. This movie had more substance than anything I've watched thus far, though it does follow a few standard Asian themes. It was nice to have a break from some of the schlock I've watched recently.

Ok, "Drag Me to Hell" is a good fun movie. The Blu Ray disc looks really good and the sound track is very active, I'd say it's worth a blind buy.

Sounds good, it's in my queue and says it's available now.

Bob McLaughlin - What a great movie day that was! I really want to see Zombieland, I may have to catch a matinee! I liked BW but felt it was overhyped, Paranormal Activity was also overhyped but I thought it did a better job of being creepy than BW.

Airboss - Thanks for the rec on Inferno... I loved Suspiria and will be adding it to my collection. I'm also adding Inferno and Mother of Tears to my growing list of 31, eh 41 horror movies in 31 days Also I think I'm going to head to BB and snag a copy of Drag Me To Hell... I've just read too many positive things about the movie and the PQ/AQ on the BD as well.

Somehow managed a Monday night double feature.

Shock (1977)

Zzzzzzzzz.....almost needed a shock to wake up from this one. Expected much more from Mario Bava. The mischievous kid Marco was the only entertaining part til the end. Barely any gore or weird italian nonsense I've grown to expect. D+

Had time so figured I'd throw on the blu-ray of...

Hellraiser (1987)

So sick, so twisted. Every once in a while we get a horror movie that changes the game and this is one of them. If this makes it into my list every year I wouldn't be disappointed. A

sorry had to post this. got a laugh when i was looking up pics on google:

Oct 13th-

44. "House of Wax (2005)" - "Six friends are on their way to a football game. They decide to camp out for the night and continue driving the next day. The next day the friends find that their having car troubles, so two of the friends accept a strangers ride into a small town named Ambrose. The main attraction in Ambrose is the House of Wax....."

Ok, I've seen this before and it was a dog then and it's still a dog! Only reason I watched it was that it was on DTV and I was too lazy to find a DVD to watch.

45. "Army of Darkness" - "A man is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., where he must battle an army of the dead and retrieve the Necronomicon so he can return home."

After watching 'HoW' I decided I should watch one of my DVDs so I selected my Blu Ray copy of 'Army of Darkness'. Although the BD transfer is not that good I still enjoyed this old standby. Lots of fun!

46. "Mother of Tears"- "Part three of the "Three Mothers" trilogy which takes place in Rome and has to do with Mater Lachrymarum (The Third Mother). "

I guess my memory is starting to go. I'm sitting watching this movie and the scenes are looking very familar, so much so that I put the movie on pause so I could check my 'movies watched' list. Sure enough I watched "Mother of Tears" over a year ago. Anyway, great way to end the trilogy.

47. "I Sell The Dead" - "A grave robber reflects on his life of crime."

"I Sell the Dead" is only available in theater or via 'IFC Video on Demand' as far as I know. I watched it via the latter and was a little underwhelmed. It's an Ok an original movie with a few chuckles, a couple of surprises and the ending is not bad, it's just all the dialog in between that slows everything down.

A graphic novel of the film has been released, with Glenn McQuaid writing and illustrations by Brahm Revel (October, 2009).

48. "An American Werewolf in London" - "Two American tourists in England are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists."

"Once again another favorite of mine which I never seem to get tired of. This time I watched it on BD and was very pleased. If you haven't seen this film what have you been doing for the pass 28 years? Go rent or buy it and enjoy. The SFX look great and were ground breaking when the movie first aired.

Best of the day "House of Wax".

Just kidding....

Real 'Best of the day' "Mother of Tears"

Just finished watching my copy of Drag Me To Hell. It was entertaining and the PQ/AQ were pretty much stellar but the as a whole it's not something I would have purchased after renting it. I'm debating wether or not it will see ebay... oh well, it's not often I blind buy and I'm usually happy with my choices so take the good with the mediocre I guess. I'm also very guilty of like a movie more after I've digested it for a couple days so no hasty decisions

Airboss - There's not much that tops An American Werewolf in London in my book but I'm anxious to see Mother of Tears which should ship from BB Thurs and I'll have it for the weekend.

I wouldn't say that 'Mother of Tears' tops 'An American Werewolf in London', it just hit the right note with me today. AAWiL is an all time favorite of mine and I doubt MoT will hold up to repeated viewing like AAWiL does, especially 28 years later.

Sorry DMTH didn't 'hit the right note' for you today. Which version did you watch, the theatrical or the unrated? If you watched the unrated give it a couple of days and watch the theatrical version, many like that version the best.

I watched the unrated version. It was entertaining and had some fun scenes but I guess I was just hoping for a little more. Justin Long's character was pretty bland. I'll try the rated version maybe next week.

I've been wanting to see MoT for a while but AAWIL and The Thing are probably at the top of my horror favorites list so I don't expect they'd be de-throned easily. I'm really looking forward to Orphan which will be a blind buy for me as well but from what I've read on it and Vera Farmiga in HD my confidence level is high on that one

Kenobi - I thought Drag Me To Hell was over-rated. I saw it in the theater and really wasnt that impressed with it. You should really like Mother of Tears though.

Today might be a problem for me to work a movie in, i might have to skip a day, but i will try.

15. Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) (first-time viewing)
It's low-budget and the acting is a little bit "TV-movie-ish", but this isn't a bad little slice of 70's Americana. If you're familiar with the short story "The Monkey's Paw", you'll get the setup for this movie. A mother refuses to accept that her son has died in Vietnam, and sure enough, he shows up at their doorstep--but he's different now. Required viewing for fans of Tom Savini, who contributed some frightfully effective makeup for this movie.

2009 Horror Movie Marathon List:
1. The Golem
2. Onibaba
3. Fire in the Sky
4. Abbot & Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
5. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
6. Ju-On
7. The Fearless Vampire Killers
8. The Girl Next Door (2007)
9. Deep Red
10. Deadgirl
11. Frightmare
12. Zombieland
13. Paranormal Activity
14. The Nightmare Before Christmas
15. Deathdream (aka Dead of Night)

I agree with your thought on Drag Me To Hell. We watched it last night and I personally had a difficult time getting into it. My wife enjoyed it slightly more than I did but even she admitted that it was average at best.

Its looking like I will be skipping tonight as well. There's some work that needs finishing around the house before some of my family members make the trek from Minneapolis to visit for the weekend. Get this, THEY requested a vampire movie marathan way back during our Easter gathering and the first time we could fit it in was this weekend. Pretty good timing, huh? Hopefully I can talk them out of watching Twilight in favor of more "adult" vampire choices.

Someone mentioned earlier about a blind buy for Orphan. I can't express my excitement for this movie enough. We saw it in the theater and I can tell you, it is a fantastic movie. It is already on the slate for Halloween Night along with Rob Zombie's Halloween.

The link in my sig has all the movies I've already watched in bold with a rating. I'll be watching the TCM remake tonight and Exorcist III tomorrow night. My wife is going to watch Session 9 with me this weekend and was so interested in the story from watching the first Saw movie that she asked to see the rest

I have not been able to find Chaos anywhere

yankeeman, I can't remember if you mentioned it but have you seen Cannibal Holocaust before? I only ask because most people (myself included) only watch it once! *GASP*

If you haven't seen it then buckle up...

If you have then....heck I don't know what to say! hahaha!

CHAOS DIRECTORS CUT 2005 - i just found that on Amazon, it appears to be the same movie. Just search on CHAOS, and its number 9 in the list of things that came up for me, might have to order it from a vendor that works with Amazon, but i have done that with no problems many times. Also i see another one came up before it, looks like it too, but i know that #9 is the one i have.

Yes, i just went inside and pulled mine out, same artwork on the dvd, dont read the negative reviews of it that some have posted, they are looking for too much out of a low budget movie, just buy it and enjoy it.

Wizzack, yes i have seen Cannibal Halocaust, quite awhile ago, so i dont remember the whole movie, just parts of it. Looking forward to this one again!

slurrrp!

Kinda funny story. Grindhouse Releasing was doing the rounds with their new print of this so I took my future wife/animal lover/vegetarian to go see it at a packed theater in NJ. Exhumed Films was showing it and they wre filming the crowd reactions for dvd.

Well I knew it was bad and I had to see it, but I didn't know it was THAT BAD! LOL!

Good times! I'll never live that down but it was worth it.

Thats a good one. Hey, i was just glancing thru the liner notes inside the dvd box (i have a 2-dvd version), and it makes a point of saying how all the animals killed were eaten for food.

I was right though about being unable to watch a movie today, i will hit this one though first thing in the morning! As i said before, its been awhile since i have seen it, so a lot of it will be new to me as i dont remember half of what what goes on in movies i watch. That actually works out well, because it allows me to watch movies over and over again. Senility is great!
Thanks guys but I don't want to blind buy and I'm not a netflix subscriber so I guess I'm sol... oh well on to the next title.

btw - I saw a title on the shalf at Hollywood Video called The 8th Plague. I watched the trailer and read the cover, looks like it could go either way. Has anyone here seen it and if so was it any good?
Kenobi, i have The 8th Plague on dvd. I havent seen it in quite awhile (like most of my horror movies due to my wife being around too much), but if i remember it was certainly worth a watch. Not the greatest, but it can kinda get creepy and has some good gore in it. If you want to rent it, go for it.

Just dont expect a fantastic experience, but its decent compared to a lot of the crap around.
You guys ever see, Make them Die Slowly? I remember getting a "bootleg" VHS of another movie like that back in the early 90's called something like the Emerald Jungle. I have since watched a few of those Italian cannibal flicks. Gory stuff.
Drag Me To Hell did so while I was kicking and screaming at Sam Raimi.
Disappointing piece of work.
Why he thought making it as though it belonged in a grindhouse, during this year of our lord 2009.
Hey Sam! Ya don't have to make films like this anymore...you did the Spiderman Trilogy, remember?
Geez, get a clue pal...
