No way, really? Very cool fact! btw I love Sucker Punch, lots of great discussion to be had around that one.
Ok, I'll give you one in return... Samara (evil spirit chick from The Ring) is also the voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch tongue.gif

Just in fresh from amazon's marketplace is Bedevilled... wanna guess what I'm watching tonight?

+1 on The Strangers. My only gripe was them giving away the money-shot in the trailer. I don't need backgrounds and motives for my killers. IMO the less you know the better (Myers, Leatherface, Henry, etc.).

"Why are you doing this to us?" "Because........" YES! Scary sh*t!

I checked out All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006) the other night and enjoyed it. The ending was pretty ruthless and even though the first half was standard teeny bop horror it started moving in a fresh direction once it climbed that familiar hill. Teen on teen violence can't get a proper release (The Loved Ones?) in the US and there's no signs of that changing so we'll just have to go keep our eyes open for these little nuggets that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Also a quick word on a couple of Netflix streams I peeped. Sssssss (1973) was pretty good. Crazy mad scientist/herpetologist creates anti-venom and something even more slithery out of his protege. In the beginning there was a disclaimer that the actors worked with real poisonous snakes. True? Who knows but I know I love snakes and reptiles so this was a cold-blooded treat for me!

Monster Dog (1984) was the story of a....you guessed it: a huge Monster Dog that wreaked havoc on a small town, or house because that's all we saw. It was Italian, had wacko gore, bad dubbing & starred Alice Cooper! Best rock song/video I've heard in an 80's horror flick since Maximum Overdrive. This unknown delight was Directed by Italian slop-fest master Claudio Fragasso (Troll 2, Zombi 3). No wonder I loved it! Warning: much less boobies than your usual Italian fare.

Darth if you haven't seen Monster Dog give it a look if you're looking for some entertaining trash.

I think the Twins of Evil corrupted your brain my friend. biggrin.gif

I'm lost.

Speaking of Twins of Evil, what did you think? The only thing that would have made it better for me is if Sheri Moon would have been on-stage. wink.gif

Ha! Life has corrupted my brain.

I loved the concert but Manson was clearly effed up. Slurring and skipping verses. Still entertaining though! I loved how he had Gobin's Suspiria track playing before he came out. The crowd cheering with that song playing was insanely energizing. Gave me the chills!

Zombie was on point. Lots of Sherri naked playing on the back screens. Put me in the mood for 1000 Corpses even though I hated on 1st viewing!

How about you?

It really grows on you, at least it did for me. My first viewing I rated it like 2 or 3 stars and now it pushes 5. There is something about it that is just badass. The opening credits and scene always get me going.

EXCISION ---- I'm sorry, but I am not going to be satisfied until I get an apology....

It isn't often I come across a movie that is all style and no substance, but unfortunately, that is exactly what Excision is.
Instinctually, I wanted to dump it early.
However, those who raved about it made me hang on (yes, I want my 81 minutes back).

24. Ghost Ship (first-time viewing)
A better-than-expected entry in the ghost ship movie subcategory. A ragtag group of salvagers discover an Italian cruise ship that's been missing since 1962. Nobody's on board...or is there? As the movie's big star, Gabriel Byrne isn't given much to do aside from brooding over a bottle. The real star is Julianna Marguiles as a tough but sometimes vulnerable sole female crew member who's the first to get wind that something is not quite as it seems on the ship. As mentioned by many before, the opening scene is jaw-dropping in an almost Wile E. Coyote death-scene way (think of the opening scene of Cube, but with a lot more people). Speaking of jaw-dropping, how about Francesca Rettondini as the lounge singer ghost?

Although Manson did not appear to be effed up, there was a 20 min delay during his set where they were stating that people in the front were pushing the metal guard rails and they apparently broke. I couldn't see what they were talking about but in speaking with some dude at our hotel later that night, he said that Manson was tweaking out on something and had to make up a reason to delay the show so that he could gather himself. He did return and finished his set with no problems, so I'm not sure if I believe that guy. The Suspiria track was very cool indeed!!

Zombie killed it. To be perfectly honest, the deciding factor for me to go to this concert was to hear House of 1000 Corpses live. That song is so friggin awesome and it kick starts the movie like no other opening track that I can recall. You definitely need to give Corpses another watch. Spectacular atmosphere and feel to it. Since it came out, it has been the most watched movie in my collection.

I'll agree with you in that it was nothing like I expected. I thought there would be much more action and mayhem. Although it disappointed in that regard, it is still an interesting movie that was well done. Certainly not your typical "horror" movie though.

Bedevilled - 2 Zombies
With the recent brand of top tier films I have seen from Korea I was really expecting to be blown away and this one just fell flat for me. The film spends far too much time developing a picture of life on the island for the main character who is abused and beaten by her husband. It takes over an hour for things to get to a boiling point and when they do it all unfolds so fast and with such an absence of tension it is almost unrewarding. The film did have some good things going for it, the building of characters that taunted and mistreated Kim Bok-nam, her so-called friend, there was ample time to develop the story and characters but it felt over-explained to me and the revenge sequence would have been more enjoyable if they had spent more time on the cat and mouse. Worth a watch but m copy will be going to amazon's marketplace.

It did do the "teen angst" well.
However, the focus was more on a very disturbed child in a world where none of the adults (although they tried) are competent enough to help.
I found it more tragic than anything else.

No question it was very skillfully done from a filmmaking POV.
Unfortunately, the plot was an empty vessel.

Love me some AH and still trying to get to Mandy Lane! I am hoping to get to Drive Angry this month as I thought she was very good in that and I think she could do the action heroine roles ala Angolina Jolie now that AJ is getting older. Amber is still only 26 so hoping her career coninues to grow.

Last night was The Gravedancers 2006. First view. This is more like it! Can't believe I never heard about it before this thread? eek.gif
It is rated R but not a gory or even violent movie - but it still works. Kind of a formulaic, by the numbers movie but was executed so well I thought that was the best part. They hit most of the elements of a good horror movie. Good believable cast - CHECK. People doing dumb things when they are drunk- CHECK. Creepy backstory gathered with old newspaper clippings - CHECK (my favorite tongue.gif). Experts enlisted to give a sense of hope and exposition - CHECK. Mostly practical effects - CHECK. smile.gif
I really enjoyed this. CG cop out at the end but did not ruin the movie.

Got a movie watched today:

HOSTEL

After 15 first watches, now i am gonna watch movies i know and love the rest of the month unless something unusual comes my way.

A classic, we should all know this movie. Nudity a-plenty in the first part, torture and gore in the second part. This is gonna make me sound sick, but i could have used a little more torture and gore. But its still a superb movie, and enough gore and torture to satisfy almost anyone.

I will give this 4.5 Zombies. Almost gave it 5 Zombies, but it took a little long for me to get to the torture. What can i say?rolleyes.gif

MOVIES WATCHED OCTOBER 2012:

01- The Butcher - 3 Zombies
02- Zombie Diaries 2 (World of the Dead) - 1/2 Zombie
03- Inferno of Torture - 1-1/2 Zombies
04- The Woman - 3 Zombies
05- Zombie - 3 Zombies
06- Dead Hooker In A Trunk - 1/2 Zombie
07- Shogun Joy Of Torture - 3 Zombies
08- House of Flesh Mannequins - 1/8 Zombies
09- The Lost - 1 Zombie
10- La Petite Mort - 3-1/2 Zombies
11- Schoolgirl In Cement - 1/2 Zombie
12- Stockholm Syndrome - 3 Zombies
13- Neighbor - 3-1/2 Zombies
14- Devil Seed - 1 Zombie
15- The Divide - 3-3/4 Zombies
16- Hostel - 4.5 Zombies

The Hostel movies are great! I never saw the 3rd one but it looks totally freakin lame. I really enjoyed the other two though and while the second one gets bashed plenty I found it almost as enjoyable as the first.

Unless I get my movies from amazon.uk today I will also be watching stuff from my own collection. I have 247 degrees fahrenheit and The Collector shipping from NF today so unless I decide to rent Chernobyl Diaries or something I'll probably queue up RZ's Halloween or maybe The Exorcist.

That is so awesome. I am reminded of my favorite scene from Blazing Saddles -

Man sitting at desk - "QUALIFICATIONS?"

Henchman standing in line - "Rape, arson, murder, rape."

Man sitting at desk - "You said rape twice."

Henchman standing in line - "I like rape..."

Same here. I'll watch it. I get tired of remakes. They could just sell this as a sequel unless there's some canon out there that says no but I'm sure that the universe of boomstick isn't that strict.

Quite so. Speaking as someone who used to be a record reviewer back when I was younger, you are going to get three reactions. People are either going to praise your insights or think you're dumber than a mud fence post. The third (which is usually the majority) is "OK, that's cool. Your opinion." Same with movies. People get out of them what they do. Doesn't make it right or wrong. Great thing here is that we sometimes get a kick out of bad horror movies.

Fright Night (1985) -- Never seen until tonite (ALL of the movies I have reviewed in this thread are 1st runs for me).

Very interesting, especially when compared to the recent re-make with Colin Farrell.

One thing I noticed right off the bat is this film is very grounded in the 80s.
That is something of a problem for me because I was TOO aware of this...it really works against it being a "timeless" horror film.

The CF movie is, essentially, the same movie in a modern environment, and for me it has more replay potential.

I just noticed Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines came out tuesday:

Starring: Doug Bradley
Plot Synopsis: The backwoods of West Virginia are deeper, darker and deadlier than ever in this all-new, unrated chapter of WRONG TURN! The cutting-edge terror continues when a small mining town hosts the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where crowds of costumed partygoers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But a killer celebration soon gives way to a blood-soaked feeding frenzy when an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students who are just dying for a good time
