It's always interesting to see how the old stuff does on seasoned fan's first viewings (Fright Night etc.). In all fairness I loved JC and only saw the first PA so can't knock the other installments. smile.gif
Inbred got a lot better once you pass the halfway point. Loved the 3rd act and ending. I'd love a squeal-quel! For Kenobi & yankeeman: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Did you not want some backstory on the ferret guy and what happened at the last show? eek.gif
Yes but at the same time I think it achieved something without explaining it which was show some contrast in the town, even this band of freaks have some warped code of conduct that if breached will revoke your member status eek.giftongue.gif

This is true. Leave it to the imagination. Zoinks!

Thinking about slapping on a sequel that I haven't seen in a long while after putting my daughter to bed. Speaking of which, she made up a menu for a Halloween-style restaurant. Makes you hungry, doesn't it? wink.gif

Yes, i too was okay with no more explanation. But i think Wiz that you found like i did the first half needed more things going on, needed some kills, some capture, some torture, some gore, i am just not into loooooooooooooong stretches at the beginning of a horror movie with nothing going on.

However once things got moving, they were damn good!!!!

Hostel
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450278/

I haven't seen this one since it came out so decided to watch it on Amazon Prime streaming last night. The wife was busy with work she brought home and couldn't watch so I figured I might as well watch something she wouldn't care for anyway. smile.gif This was just a tad bit slower to start than I had remembered but once it got going it was every bit as disgusting as I remembered. The whole time I'm thinking, this is something that could happen to my crazy brother and his friends that go on trips out of the country. Just goes to show that testosterone and horndog jocks will do anything and go just about anywhere for some strange. Basically, two friends backpacking through Europe meet up with another guy they don't know but become fast friends. Their desire for action and a good time leads them to a dude promising a hostel not shown on their map where the whole town is full of hot snatch. They make the trip and meet a creepy guy along the way and things go down hill for them from there. This is an interesting concept once revealed and the gore is realistic but not over the top. It was fun watching this again and certainly makes you think twice before traveling to places you aren't familiar with and going off the beaten tourist paths. Plenty of boobies in this one and even some laughs. A pretty good time. I would give this 3 dumb jock zombies.

60. Fright Night Part 2. What a great sequel. It's a rare one that picks up after the first and tells what happened in the aftermath kind of like we will never know how NYC dealt with all that marshmallow after the Ghostbusters did their thing. In this Charley, fresh out of therapy, and Peter Vincent, still hosting Fright Night, team up again to fight a trio of revenge seeking vamps. The trio consists of Dexter on Steroids, one half of Milli Vanilli, and Sheena Easton. They are after Charley for his role in the death of Jerry from the first one. This movie, even as a sequel, is shoulders above the modern remake. There are some really great death sequences and one that might rival the face melt in Raiders of the Lost Ark though my personal favorite vampire kill of all time is in The Lost Boys:The Thirst. AMC
61. Prince of Darkness. As I age this is becoming one of my favorites of all time. It take the man of science man of faith standoff and gives it a reason. In this movie God is light and whatever the hell is in that tube is the opposite. There is effective use of mirrors in this as means of dimensional travel and video transmissions from the future sent as warnings. You've got bug filled zombie homeless people acting on behalf of the hive mind and messages to the viewer from all the TVs and monitors in the movie. So great. I have to say that my 5am viewing left me with the feeling that there just wasn't any hope in any shot in this movie. Even the soundtrack sounds doomed. Each scene is full of despair right up to the end. You get one break as a trapped character makes jokes to zombies as the walls close in on him. Even in the torture porns you have heroes and the threat of an uprising. Hell, you expect someone to stand up and dig deep in those movies, not so in POD. Netflix Instant

The bug barf soup seems a little pricey at 5.01, but then I guess collecting enough to make a whole bowl would be labor-intensive...
I like how it says "Page 1 of 2" at the top...kids are funny with the details that way!

31. Horrors of the Black Musem (FTV)
Presented in "Hypno-Vista", whatever that is, this 1959 film involves an arrogant journalist making fools of the local police as he hypnotizes an assistant to do his murders for him. The gimmick here is that he murders using weapons and props that could be found in London's Black Museum, so we get treated to a lot of interesting kills for a 1950's movie: binoculars with spikes that are driven into your eyes, a bed's headboard-mounted guillotine, an acid bath, etc. Michael Gough rises above the material in his quirky depiction of the psychotic newspaper journalist--there isn't a single sympathetic character in the movie, but it's pretty entertaining stuff. Also included on the DVD is an unintentionally hilarious introduction where a very serious British man claims that he can hypnotize the audience before they watch the movie.

Bath salts eh? Is this the guy from Sons of Anarchy? I recall reading about a guy from that show with a similar story.

Yes, this was the guy that was on Sons of Anarchy...he played the prospect named "Half Sack"

Halloween 2 (1981): Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence reprise their roles as Laurie Strode (intended victim) and Dr. Sam Loomis. Probably best to see both the original and the sequel back-to-back as it's a continuation of the same Halloween night. Seems the good doctor emptying his revolver into Michael Myers (plus falling from the house's second story) wasn't enough to do in the psychopath and he takes his brand of mayhem to the Haddonfield, Illinois hospital to find Laurie. Everyone at the small hospital turns out to be a body count for ol' Michael and he ends up having more lead in him than a toy made in China. Fun watch and you also receive free of charge, the best horror theme since The Exorcist. The hard part to swallow was Dr. Loomis' lame attempt to connect Michael's seeming inability to die due to some ancient druid cult. C'mon! All in all, 3 nostalgic Zombies.

Had to watch something short and fast, so i put on the best of the Masters of Horror series:

IMPRINT

Banned at one time, basically for things done to fetuses, this is one totally wild way out there movie. Great torture scene, gross fetus scenes, brutality, etc.

A very bizarre twist in it too near the end.

Should be seen by everyone once, its an experience. I will give it 4-1/4 Zombies.

Put the final lighting touches on my haunt last night and will be doing some dressed rehearsal tonight. The Mrs. will film and I'll get some stuf up and shared with y'all as soon as I can. I was still able to squeeze in a couple flicks last night too!

House of 1000 Corpses - 4.5 Zombies
I don't know why this one has grown on me so much over the years but it is just a blast and just captures the Halloween vibe in a sick way!

The Descent - 5 Zombies
With no guys trying to play captain-save-a-hoe and brilliant set design, atmosphere, and practical effects this one climbed its way to the top of my list as soon as I'd seen it!

Sorry for the short reviews but these kids have been around the block and just don't need much more cheerleading.

32. Tower of London (1962) (FTV)
Not to be confused with the 1939 film starring Boris Karloff (and Vincent Price in a lesser role), this is a Roger Corman directed feature starring Vincent Price as Richard III. This is a fictionalized account of how he rises to the throne by murdering everyone who stands in his way, only to descend into madness and lose it all. There are lots of classic Corman touches here: ghosts done by double-exposing film, torture devices such as the rack and the old "rat in the cage on your head" trick, models for sets, and of course a few lovely women thrown in (although not as many as Corman usually gives us). Vincent Price, looking puffy and wearing a bad Prince Valiant-style wig, gives a really great, more-unhinged-than-usual performance. As with most Cormans, this wasn't scary but was entertaining.

Completing my killer 80's triumvirate is Killer Clowns from Outer Space 1988 - first view. For a late 80's flic it is SOLIDLY entrenched in the laughable 80's look and dialogue. Two words - DEAN WORMER in the house! I don't know if this is a BAD movie that is good or a good movie that is bad? tongue.gif Either way, it is a crack up. No real violence or mayhem but the clowns are just great and creepy. For a low budget, they really did a convincing job with MOST of the fx. Not a scary flic but for a funny, nostalgic twist on horror, I am proud to have this bluray in my library. cool.gif

October Horror Fest 2012:
1- Squirm. Worms. Worms kill people. Very good cinematography in this despite it being a total B movie. Netflix Instant
2- All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Teen murderfest. Nice scenery and a decent twist but not a mind blower for me. 1st
3- The Loved Ones. Dude climbs a pile of bones in this teen murderfest. I enjoyed the acting, soundtrack, and violence....Am I not pretty enough.... 1st
4- Jeepers Creepers. I enjoy how this one wraps up and the beasty is very intriguing in action and design. It's underrated in my opinion.
5- Paranormal Activity 3. I saw the first in the theater due to hype and was disappointed. Watched part 2 on my couch with the wife and got several jumps. Same with part 3. I dare say I'm a fan of the series. I do think part of their draw is a lot of low sounds to get you to crank the volume and then BOOM! Part 3 got into the witchcraft side and some back story which I enjoyed and thought it made the ending lean toward jawdropping. 1st
6- Pumpkinhead. Really great flick. Solid tale of supernatural vengeance with great Stan Winston effects and Lance Henriksen. Seems like one of the better all conventional effect horror film of the late 80's. It's really well done.
7- V/H/S. What in the melon farming hell?! King of horror anthologies? Couldn't take my eyes off it and wish to unsee portions. It will be a while before I watch again because it burns into your mind. 1st
8- Frayed. Awesome opening but the rest was just ok. Felt like a Halloween cover with no meat on the bone. 1st
9- The Cottage. I enjoyed this British dark slasher comedy. If it had Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in it it might close in on Shaun of the Dead. Sadly it doesn't have them but it was still quite good. 1st
10- Night of the Demons. Recently remade, the original brought back memories of box art surfing at the old local video store. We combed the aisles for what we could get away with. This didn't hold up well despite some great effect sequences and soundtrack. It didn't have much story which would've helped. Worth a watch if you've seen the remake.
11- The Monster Squad. Fred Dekker. Perfection. Classic monsters and a "team" of kids. Fun. Fun. Fun. DVD
12- The Crater Lake Monster. Late 70's cheese which aged just fine for me. Aquatic dinosaur hatches via meteorite. A few funny character types and a fake as hell monster. Good times. Netflix Instant
13- Exit Humanity. I've got say this was excellent. Not your typical dude bro zombie stuff we're seeing a lot of. Very intelligent story, expertly narrated by Brian Cox and very similar to Johnny Cash's vocal style in The Man Comes Around. I'm still getting chills from some of the poetic delivery in his narration of this quest. At this moment it's a must see although a but slow but the quality of the product is first rate. Netflix Instant 1st
14- Piranha. Really just a fun creature feature. Absurdity all over. Particularly great gore effects in many scenes and they saved loads of cash by everybody being naked. Netflix Instant
15- Slither. Another great creature feature with some awesome effects. This one, to me, feels like a great 80's flick with several great runs of dialogue and not taking itself too seriously. Netflix Instant
16- Lovely Molly. I got lost in this one. Parts were good and parts were like meh. I did enjoy the last third more than the first 2/3 for some reason. I was just not getting it for some reason and should probably revisit another time. Netflix Instant 1st
17- Absentia. Another mixed bag thriller with interesting concepts. Weaker than Lovely Molly for me but still enjoyable. The pacing was off but I liked the concepts and the characters a lot. Netflix Instant 1st
18- The Tall Man. Not really sure if this belongs here or not. I went in expecting a horror mystery thriller and got mystery instead. Pretty good story and Jessica did a good job but it never felt like a horror movie and I didn't feel any suspense. Netflix Instant 1st
19- The Final. Much better than I expected it to be. A few tense moments and great presentation kept it from being a complete waste. I like movies with a vengeance tilt and I would have enjoyed this anytime of year as the setup is pretty universal. We all know bullies or have been bullied and the actions in this parallel loosely to other movies like Carrie or even The Loved Ones. Netflix Instant 1st
20- Creepers/Phenomena. Dario Argento. You love him or hate him. This is a more accessible film of his revolving around psychically controlled bugs and feels like a dream in the way it tells the story. Not a lot of gore but it does have a chimpanzee with a straight razor. I would suggest this to people who have never seen any of Dario's work as a starting point. Amazon Prime
21- The Haunting. Great atmosphere and good casting. The House On Haunted Hill is better in my opinion. I do dig the house and the general aesthetic of the movie. Should put most people in the spirit. HBO Go
22- Lobos De Arga. Fantastic freaking movie. It's been a loooong time since I've seen a werewolf movie this good. Easily one of the best since An American Werewolf In London. Awesome conventional effects and a great story. I've been dying for decent werewolf movie for years and this is awesome. I read a review that said it was a Spanish Shaun of the Dead and that's pretty close. It is so good. Funny and scary with throwbacks to Universal's Wolfman. See it. See it now. HBO Go 1st
23- I Spit On Your Grave. I love a tale of vengeance but hate watching what got her to that point. Some say this movie was evolutionary for the genre and I can see that. Netflix Instant
24- Triangle. It's been covered here and I can't add anything to it. Absolutely mind bending. Netflix Instant
25- The Omen. Great flick that pulls conspiracy and religion together with politics very nicely and causes instant distrust in anyone named Damien. Netflix Instant
26- Deadheads. Sentient zombies go on a road trip to find a lost love. Not perfect but still entertaining in the sea of zombie dreck we're getting lately. Netflix Instant 1st
27- The Messengers. Really good haunted house mystery where the CGI doesn't get in the way too much. Similar in tone to the Amityville films. Crackle
28- Messengers 2: The Scarecrow. Not sure why this exists but I'm glad Norman Reedus got paid for it. Crackle 1st
29- Dark Country. Noir-ish in style, Twilight Zone in story. Exceptional mind twisting road movie. HBO Go 1st
30- Outpost. A spin on zombie Nazis. I enjoyed it. Nothing too shocking but still a solid movie.Crackle 1st
31- Orphan. Creepy kid movies mean something totally different when you have kids much like The Road becoming even more harrowing.
32- Insidious. I really like this movie but have problems with how they wrap it up. I enjoy the throwbacks to Poltergeist and The Entity. It spooked me a couple of times so it's a favorite now. Netflix Instant
33- The Sentinel. Late 70's cult flick. A model is weaved into some sort of ritual that isn't kumbaya. Has a lot of stars in it and was actually quite good. Nice buildup until the crazy ending. At least one effect shot is awesome and a liberal sprinkling of T and A round it out this Satanic movie. Netflix Instant
34- Vampire Circus. Hammer time. A plague ridden village gets a visit from a circus. Things go south pretty quickly in this tale of vampire revenge. Great Hammer effects and acting is top tier:) in this well crafted story that you don't see much of anymore. Netflix Instant 1st
35- The Bad Seed. A great classic movie in its own right despite the genre. Rhoda is Stepford Wives level robotic in her wickedness. Amazon Instant
36- The Revenant. Oddly good buddy/vigilante movie about ghouls or revenant as opposed to zombies. Sold as a dark comedy though I only laughed a few times. I remained entertained by the premise and it does have very solid moments nearing brilliance. It was slow to start but really found itself mid way. Quite poignant in later scenes but the very end comes out of nowhere and it probably could have wrapped about five minutes sooner. With the few great scenes and the tug at the heart it did manage I would recommend it to those who need an undead film that is above the Z grade zombie stuff in the market now. It should pair up with Deadheads rather nicely for a double feature. Vudu 1st
37- Children of the Corn. A classic movie with an opening that still shocks me. One of the better Stephen King movies and one all my peers know. We pretty much can't even look at a corn field without saying "he who walks behind the rows." It fostered a heavy distrust in anyone with the name Malachi or Issac as well. Not a lot of gore but what it has is done well and the real terror is zealotry whether it's religious, political, or whatever. Netflix Instant
38- Link. I dig when animals attack. I dig it more with a monkey in a suit. Not an outright horror film but a good and quirky suspense movie with the protagonist pretty much out acting all the humans in the movie. Not as good as Monkey Shines or as violent as Shakma and the soundtrack sort of takes me out of the mood as it sounds circus like but perhaps that's intentional. If you like it when animals attack and can go in for fun you'll see an ape wipe the floor with Terence Stamp and Elizabeth Shue in the thespian way. 1st
39- The Shining. Stellar film. Transcends genre, IMHO. I need to read the book. Can't really say anything that hasn't been said already but this one of the best movies, in any genre, of all time. I watched last night as if it were my first time. It's been so long since I've watched it I'll have to take on the easter egg hunt at another date. I did manage to see moving light switches and clocks. Amazon Instant
40- Shocker. I've never been a huge Wes Craven person but this movie is pretty good. Similar to ANOES with a late 80's twist. Felt like they were trying to create a character like Freddy or Jason, not that that's bad. Enjoyable and funny and well paced. Not enough backstory for me. I'd like to see more on the magic Horace used and the abilities Jonathan had. Great soundtrack. Amazon Instant
41- Cujo. Loveable dog goes insane and kills mostly dickheaded people. AMC
42- The Children. Nicely shot tale of murderous kids. The kids were so realistic in their annoyingness I wanted to take that xylophone away from that one kid and cheered when the one got a spanking. Jeez they nailed part. A couple of cringe worthy scenes make it worth a watch. IFC 1st
43- Disturbing Behavior. I like this movie a lot. A cool spin on the high school archetypes and lemming mindset of teenagers. I wouldn't say it is scary except in the all too real portrayal of the social systems in school. Decent soundtrack as well but I'm partial because I'm old and I know how radio used to sound back then. In my opinion this should pair up nicely with Cabin In the Woods and I'm pretty sure it will hold up longer. MGM HD
44- Pighunt. Stupid. Netflix Instant 1st and LAST
45- Excision. American Beauty meets Human Centipede in all the good ways. Twisted as hell coming of age story. This thing gets intimate on many levels and feels like a classic already. The acting was top notch and the lead was superb. I see lots of raving about The Loved Ones for many of the same reasons this film has. This movie isn't about jump scares or gasping shocks, though gasping is here, it's about that black grime under the fingernails of a killer in your midst. Quite a treat in this one. Amazon Instant 1st
46- The Faculty. Not as good as Disturbing Behavior in my opinion. I enjoyed it way back but it hasn't aged as well as DB has, perhaps it's the effects of "style." It's pretty much a knock of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It DOES have Famke in it so there's that but the hip cool drug dealer guy blows. Elijah Wood is really good in his role and it is super fun to see Jon Stewart get killed. Netflix Instant
47- Zombieland. This movie doesn't hold up to repeat viewings like a Romero flick or Shaun does. Even with Bill Murray and Emma Stone (who I love) in it it falls into B minus territory real fast for me. I still uphold it has one of the greatest opening sequences in a horror movie ever but with every Tom, Dick, and Harry riding zombie coat tails these days "double tap" lost it's punch. DVD
48- The Sleeper. Like the title says....Amazon Instant
49- Maximum Overdrive. The best AC/DC video EVER as well as making me think three times before I put my hand under a lawnmower. Fun movie overall and the premise is scary if you really think about it. DVD
50- Night Of the Comet. Terrific 80's scifi horror movie. Valley girls, zombie freaks, CATHERINE MARY STEWART. I just love this flick and use it to ferret out posers much like the pain box and gom jabbar in Dune. Amazon Instant
51- Trick 'r Treat. A Christmas Story for Halloween. Not a pixel of CGI in this anthology of terror that has a serial killer next door, vengeful spirits, urban legends, and esoteric traditions to follow. It really sums up the Halloween experience in a nice well designed package and it's earned its spot in our household holiday movie rotation. This movie embodies Halloween like Full Metal Jacket embodies boot camp. Blu-Ray
52- The Strangers. Very well done and spooky. This movie is pretty much ripped from the headlines in its reality. No motives to be found other than being home. On repeat viewings you do start to flesh out your own plan of action should you find yourself in a situation like this. Mine includes more guns. Bluray
53- Pontypool. Pretty damn good. IT took a minute to get going and is worth it if you are spoiler free. I tried to watch this earlier this year and fell asleep but took it up again on your suggestions here. Quite an interesting take on the zombie movie and worth at least one watch if you are a fan of the genre. I have questions about the ending and I'm okay if I'm left to wonder. Netflix Instant 1st
54- Something Evil. A scene from a movie I saw between vinyl siding commercials in the 80's has haunted me until this day. It appears I'm not alone as a few Google searches for "glowing red eyes" and some dives into the answer threads revealed this forgotten gem. I tracked it down on youtube and the low quality actually helped my experience, I piped it over to my 360 for that lean back style. The guy had taped it and it looked decent enough to remind me of old school OTA broadcasts which is exactly how I saw it as a child. As for the movie most of it is in broad daylight and there is NO gore at all but it does have Steven Spielberg directing this 1972 TV movie. Worth a watch for the rarity, the occult 70's stuff, and the conventional effects. YouTube
55- The Innkeepers. After Something Evil this movie makes even more sense. It could totally be the same flick that a vinyl siding company used to sell you product on a Sunday afternoon. Some may hate it for this but I love it for this. It is not as good as HOTD but it isn't supposed to be. It's a different story and I think I enjoy the character development and atmosphere more than anything. It is pretty much the story of bored hotel employees that are into ghost hunting and a washed up psychic actress that helps freak them out until the end. Netflix Instant
56- Village of the Damned. John Carpenter keeps it real in this remake about creepy kids. This is a mid 90's remake of a 60's movie and it's very well done. Not real flashy like other films around it but that's a strength considering the twist on the mundane that the movie is. I'm particularly fond of the first half and the initial "weird" event. Netflix Instant
57- Monster House. Good clean fun for the family and younger viewers. Light on the comedy but tightly written and well paced. Probably gets pretty intense at the end for some kids due to peril. DVD
58- Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition. Quote filled romp in a fantasy/horror world. Excellent work on the skeletons. It's actually hard to describe this movie but I do like it. I think it's the off the wall-ed-ness of it. It would pair nicely with Your Highness, which is totally worth your time, if you need some funny takes on genres. AOD plays in the undead demonic comedy space effectively and is basically legendary. DVD
59- Drag Me To Hell. I love this flick and how it walks a fine line between serious and over the top. I don't mind the CGI in this one at all. Creepy, moody, and surprising at times. Shocking yet comic gore. Takeaways should include not being a dick to old people. DVD

61 in 30 days. Nearly a 3rd are first time viewings. I take back what I said about not having anything to watch and any difficulty the baby might have introduced. It took nearly all my free time to get this many done. I'm not sure how proud of this I should be but it's fun. As usual your lists drive my hunt for fresh content and I appreciate it.

On a side note I have no idea how all these plastic roaches got all over the office but the guy who did it is obviously a menace.

Not a scary flic but for a funny, nostalgic twist on horror, I am proud to have this bluray in my library. cool.gif
3 1/2 Killer Clowns

Spot on. I rank "Killer Clowns From Outer Space" as my three go-to flicks for the holiday. The other two being "Young Frankenstein" and "Beetlejuice."

Funny, I have that one coming in the mail tomorrow. Haven't seen it in years. Somehow I have to get in The Shining and The Exorcist between now and Wednesday night.

I never would have thought FN2 could be decent and will have to get this in sometime.

Nice list and congratulations on your accomplishment or should you be embarassed? tongue.gif JK!!!

What a fun month! I got in to a good rythm of getting a movie in right around bed time for the kids and after a bit my wife would even ask what I was watching tonight.
I would say TEETH or House of the Devil or something and she would go "ok" and walk away...tongue.gif

I usually try to get in one horror flic per week so this month was fun to try and get in titles I had not seen before and ok if you got a stinker because you had another lined up the next night. My titles were predicated on what I had not seen before and could get from the library or Blockbuster or had in my library. I did not even get to alot of my all time favorites this month and would be interested in seeing what folks lists would be of your favorite 31 horror movies of all time. Many of the lists I see online are dated or lame-ish.

Twisted minds think alike. We did "Young Frankenstein" a couple days ago so it's "Beetlejuice" tonight and "Poltergeist" Halloween night. Congrats on an impressive list of movies this month!
